So- after FI popped the big question and all the hugs and kisses had subsided, who did you tell first?
I called my mom- She was still sleeping I woke her up saying “GUESS WHAT, GUESS WHAT? I’M ENGAGED!”
Her response “What? Why?”
Keep in mind she was half asleep. Once she woke up and processed everything- she was very happy!
Tell me who you told first!! Anyone else wake someone up to share the news?

FH proposed with a doctored fortune cookie (we met in China) at a big dinner with my family and his family so there really wasn’t anyone i needed to tell! i immediately got phone calls after updating my relationship status though with a bunch of “ARE YOU SERIOUS???”‘s

I called home and spoke to my dad – my mom and sister were out shopping so I called them next. My parents knew it was coming – DH called them the night before to ask for their blessing – but my sister flipped out. Then I called my brother and my closest friends and later in the evening sent an email to other close friends and posted the update on Facebook. It was so exciting!

We were camping. He proposed on a bridge, we got off the bridge to go back and tell our family (who was on a walk somewhere), and then realized we didn’t take any pictures. We went back to the bridge to take pictures, and there our family and good friends were! They actually took a picture of us walking toward them just for funsies, even though they didn’t know it was going to be our first picture as an engaged couple!

We called my parents immediately and then my brother and sister-in-law in Germany. We were with his parents in Washington DC but they weren’t around, so then we took them to this garden behind the Castle and told them. It was awesome.

he proposed at my parents house so about 3 min. after he did it I went running to show my mom the ring (he told me he spoke with my dad so I assumed my mom knew too). All I said was yay! and showed her the ring. She got really serious and was like, “no way” I thought she was pissed at first, but then she started to cry and gave me a big hug. She thought I was kidding at first.

Oh..I’m sorry…everyone’s reaction was priceless:
FI asked for blessing in Nov. 2008 and the proposal was in May 2009. So everyone was like…WHEN WILL HE ASK HER?
Everyone was overjoyed.

@ChelseaLiz8: My mom was the first person I called and she had the EXACT same response! She was sleeping as well, so the next morning she congratulated us and apologized for not being as excited as she wanted to be. I swear her bed time gets earlier and earlier every night, I called her at 8:30pm!

I didn’t get a choice of her to call first. Mr. M. just said here is a list of everyone one who already knows, your going to have to call them as they are all waiting by the phone. LOL!

We called my mom (since my dad already knew prior in order to give his permission). We put her on speaker phone and yelled together “We’re engaged!”. Her immediate response was What? How? I didn’t give my permission!! We were both kind of stunned… speechless… until she finally got it together and started screaming in excitement. Haha gotta love my mom!

@maxj: haha my mom was kind of like that. FH asked my dad right before the dinner and they discussed if he should ask my mom but there was NO WAY she would have been able to keep cool through the dinner. she was in literal deer in the headlights shock the entire night because neither of us had even an inkling he was going to propose! then when the shock wore off a bit she swatted at my dad who was proud of his secret-keeping and was like “why didn’t you tell me??” she was kind of bummed that he didn’t ask her, but totally knew that there was no way she could have kept it a secret and agreed it was for the best!

I called my mom first. It was funny because my mom is a talker, and so before I can even get a word out, she starts right in on this story about something (can’t remember) and I tried to interrupt her like 4 times, and she just kept talking, so finally I just sort of yelled into the phone “Ron just asked me to marry him!” – she was like “what? He did, oh good!!!”

I called my mom about 3 times and she would.not.pickup and then my dad, and he didn’t pick up, and then my best friend, and she didn’t pick up, so I just started texting people and posted it on Facebook! The first person I got a hold of was one of my good friends (and wedding twin!) from college, so technically I told her first. Then people started calling once they saw the FB announcement and texts (oh, internet). I finally got a hold of my mom about an hour later, too 🙂
