- Wedding: June 2013
My fiance and I chartered a ship for the afternoon. The captain is ordained and will be the officiant. I’ll run through a list of my vendors (not very many) and please let me know your opinion on who I should tip and how much!
The ship/captain: The charter was a flat rate ($1500), plus the officiant’s fee ($125).
Drinks: Also paid ahead of time, $4.95pp (unlimited soda, water, juice, coffee, tea – cash bar)
Food: An offsite caterer is preparing/delivering the food, the ship’s crew is serving/cleaning up (buffet). We’re paying the ship people directly (about $36pp, they added tax and 18% administrative fee). The captain’s daughter will be arranging my centerpieces, and s crew member will hand out favors as people leave.
Flowers: Being delivered (for a fee), just bouquets, bouts, and corsages (they will be delivered before I anyone arrives)
Cupcakes: Also being delivered for a fee. I met with the owner twice, did two tastings, changed my order. I initially booked in January, and she said they would arrange to pick up the cupcake stand after the ceremony. When I met with her again, they had changed their policy so that the bride/groom had to return it (which I totally get – small business, when they’re busy during wedding season it’s hard for them to go pick them up). But I reminded her what she told me, and that it would be really hard for us to return it, as we’re leaving in a limo, heading out that night to our honeymoon, and the stand is big and heavy so I would hate to ask a guest. Also, her business is in the same city as the harbor. She said no problem, she’d arrange to pick it up. So she has been FABULOUS. The cupcakes are already paid for, and I won’t be there when they are delivered. I plan to send a thank you card after, should I include a tip?
Photographer: He’s a friend of the family, and an amazingly talented photographer. He does journalistic work, and has only done one wedding, so he’s charging us $500. A STEAL! Should I tip him?
Hairdresser: She is soooo amazing. She’s coming to my FMIL’s at 6am to do my hair, FMIL’s, FSIL’s, and my two daughter’s (they’re 8 and almost 3). She hate to charge people money, so I don’t know exactly what it will be, but she said probably $75/adult and $50/child, so that should be about $325. That’s likely what she charges to do it at her salon, and is not charging extra for coming over at 6am on a Sunday, when she has two little ones at home! I’d like to give her a generous tip. How much do you think??
