I do most of the cooking at home, because 1..I LOVE to cook and 2...he has a strange work schedule. I get off work at 5PM and he doesn't get off until 11PM. I am usually either sleep..or trying to get there by then. He does surprise me and cook sometimes on his off days though. I sleep in on my off days and he's usually up o he normally cooks breakfast on the weekends.

What's your story and why? Is it a problem or does it work well?

I do almost all the cooking because I'm better at it and I like to cook.

I put "we cook equally" because it was the closest match.

I do the meal-plan and am the 'head chef', my fiance is the 'sous chef'.

DH leaves work usually about 1/2 hour later than I do and he has a longer commute, so I end up doing most of the cooking. He usually does the cleaning to compensate, but I let him off the hook every once in a while.

That said, there are certain meals that are 'his' that I"ll just prep for him and he'll cook. And he does about 1/2 of the grocery shopping in general, at least. also, I love to cook so it works out.

@kitzy: I have this thing about someone being in "my kitchen" when I cook. We have cooked together before, but I don't mind going at it myself, lol

My husband is in school so he is normally home for dinner time so its easier for him to plan and cook.  However, there are two nights a week that he doesn't get home till about 7 pm so I have tried to cook new recipes on those nights.

@abbyful: So you basically plan the meals and he executes? LOL...I do the planning too.

@moderndaisy: I end up doing most of the cleaning too...I am a clean freak. He'll help out, but I usually initiate it or just get it done. I can't stand a mess.

My FI is by far the better cook.  However, we take turns cooking.  I am learning "baby steps" with cooking, and he helps me.

However, if given a choice:  He Cooks, I Bake...

    I rock at Baking :)

@Aubergold: My honey makes sweet tea, lol

@mcnetn3: He actually can cook pretty well, I just take on the bulk of that area.

@caszos: I am so into new recipes. I think you have inspired me to make a recipe swap thread. Thanks!

I do all of the cooking because 1) I'm home more/earlier 2) I'm better at it (he can make like three things) and 3) I'm pickier so its easier for me to make stuff so I'll eat it.

I do majority of the cooking. I'm better and can make a variety of dishes, his knowledge is limited. Plus he makes a HUGE mess when he cooks - and since we have the one person cooks the other cleans rule, i don"t wan't to clean after him!

I cook. He's clueless. I seriously had to teach him to BROWN CHICKEN the other day. MmHmm. I think it was easy for him to just order out when he was single, since over 300 restaurants delivered to his place, and cooking for one person isn't very efficient. But, he's learning now!

We're a same-sex couple so I couldn't really complete the poll, but I do most of the cooking. She worked in restaurants for a number of years and got burnt out. I, on the other hand, enjoy cooking and like to try new things.

My fiance is a ridiculously good cook so I get spoiled all the time with his Italian cooking...meatballs, fresh pasta, etc.  I contribute with my baking which is not always good for my waist :)

He works and I am Unemployed so I figure its only fair that I cook. But he almost always cleans (well loads the dish washer. Man clean and woman clean are two different things for some reason.) While i do the counters and pots and pans.

But he does have a few dishes he makes way better than me and they are the ones he likes to cook.

@PrncssDva, the execution is a joint-venture, usually I give him tasks like "chop the peppers" or "brown the meat". He still doesn't know what all the terms mean in the cookbooks, but he's learning! :)

@karo: Why couldn't you do the poll? Doesn't SO mean significant other which can be either sex? married or not?

For us, me, me and me.  Sometimes he will have a salad for me when I am home late. But its what I tell him to put on it, with the groceries I purchased and I have to make my dressing.  He cooks about once a year and will do basic stuff for lunches for himself on the weekends if I dont offer.

With the way our schedules work, SO is usually home before me, so he does most of the cooking. But even if our schedules were the same he still probably would. He is a great cook! He makes the most amazing egg and sausage wraps, and some pretty yummy shrimp alfredo! Oh man, it's making me hungry!!

    Definitely me.

My husband thought you made mac n cheese by adding the water, noodles and cheese all at the same time. He just can't seem to handle the whole cooking process lol. BUT he can grill some meat so I make him do that a lot during the summer.

I think we cook equally.  WE like to use it as time together, and I dont' like to clean up the mess.  If we're doing it together, makes it go faster.  And then during the weeks when one of us is there, and the other isn't, we just take turns depending on who has more time, energy, or less to do that evening.  We've always been pretty good about splitting and sharing ALL the chores around the house.

He does. I have no idea how to cook anything and he usually only works til 1 or 2 in the afternoon, where as i work til 6 and am exhausted by the time I get home.

If our meals were up to me we'd be eating PB&J and Eggo's. No lie.

    We cook equally.

We are both good cooks and love to cook in and out of the kitchen. One of our favorite things to do is to prep and cook together with the music on. :)
We love trying out new menus together and 9 out of ten times end up altering menus to our taste.

Our meals are interesting because it's always fusion!

Our registry was mainly kitchen utensils!!

In the past couple years we've been smoking meat & fish, making our own jerky, stuffing our own sausage, our own pasta sauce, etc.
    It's so much fun!!

Our challenge this season is to make beef wellington and retry making our own pasta now that we have a attachment for our kitchenaid.
