I admit it. I have a smidgen of baby rabies. I don't really WANT a baby right now but it's fun to think about... right? DH and I have discussed potential names for years but there's been more talk lately. Last night we were discussing it again and I think we may have named our future offspring. This is exciting considering we never really agreed on names before.

Anyways, what are your hypothetical children named and why?

    I'll start...

Girl: Fiona Michelle - I love the name Fiona. It's one of those names that will work at 7 and 70. Unfortunately, most people associate the name with being an Ogre or a skank (if anyone out there watches Shamless, you know) so hopefully that won't be an issue later in life. Michelle is my aunts name. She's more like my second mom and she means so much to me.

Boy: Maxwell Wayne - We love the name Max but we'd want to give him a more formal name so we agreed on Maxwell (we dont like any of the other options). It also happens to be one of the only names that kinda flows with our desired middle name. Wayne is DH's step dad and he's the reason my husband is the man he is today. We'd really love to honor him by naming our future son after him.

Fun!  It's kind of ironic... my husband hopes we have all boys, but we've only come up with girl names!  At the top of our list right now is either Summer Leigh or April Leigh.  My husband is fond of "names that are things," and those are two I've always liked.  lol.  Our first daughter's middle name will for sure be Leigh and our first son's middle name will be Keith, after our own middle names.

wow, i havent met a person named Fiona in years, its different without being weird or popular and  Michelle is my bff name so it has very good vibes for me and Max (or Maxwell) i love for a boys name

i think picking middle names that mean something (family, friend, someone that affected you positively) is great

edit: Fiona is a skank??? never seen Shamless so i dont have that assocation at all

I really like Alice for a girl.  FI isn't into it yet.  I'll convince him.  :P

Boys names....I don't know.  I'd like it to start with a J, but I just don't like anything we're come up with so far.  This isn't to say that I don't think about it far too often for a person who isn't even TTC yet, haha.

    Fantasy baby name: Gilda Vivienne.

Name we finally BOTH agreed on (not Kerri anymore because DH wanted something "different" to match our daughter's somewhat different name):

    Gwendolyn (for my grandmother).

We'll be calling her Gwen for short. I love the name, it's different but very classic, and will work at any age. She could be a doctor or a rock star either way!

cool thread! id like to participate (even though im pregnant at the moment so these names are for the kid thats currently in progress!)

Girl: Eleanor Lee    -  Eleanor because several years ago I read a book and the character was called Eleanor and the name has stuck with me since, my FI decided on Eleanor however because its a model of his favourite car so therefore if we have a girl she be named after both a book and a car! and we're having the middle name Lee, because that is both my mother's middle name as well as my own so i want to continue that small tradition :)

Boy: Lucas Anthony    -  Lucas - dont really have a reason why its Lucas, I've just always liked the name and its stuck me with me also! FI wants the name Lucas for a boy purely for the reason of star wars so he can say "Luke I am your father"... boys! lol. Oh and anthony because thats both my FI's middle name and his fathers - keeping the family middle name theme going!

@eloping:  Lol, it's the name of one of the main characters and yea, she tends to have questionable morals. :)

I agree on the middle names. My middle name, Marae (pronounced Muh-ray), is a mix of my great grandmother (May) and grandfather (Ray). It's the perfect oppertunity to really honor someone who means a lot to you.

@Mrs D:  Haha, men! I love Eleanor. It's so nice to "meet" other people who opt for older names over the ever so popular trendy ones.

@Juliepants:  Ahh, I love Alice too! You ladies are impressive!

@UpstateCait:  Thanks! I had sort of tucked it away in my not going to happen baby names list, because DH has been such a grump about the name, I never thought he'd go for it. So when he suggested we go for something a bit more different (Kerri was literally the only name we agreed on), I suggested Gwendolyn and he was immediately like "I love it!" My grandmother was a HUGELY important figure in my life and if my daughter grows up to be anything like her, I will be thrilled. She was an amazing woman.

My SO and I only have plans for furbabies unless we eventually get our own lives figured out.

We like older names... and he is a metalhead so we picked out Abigail for our first dog :) which we won't get until we have a house with property (more than likely this is 5 years away as we have major plans before being able to settle).

Still haven't figured out a middle name. I tend to make up a lot of nicknames for pets as well.

A cat name we've also thought of- Torple (Parks and Recreation reference)

We plan on having a lot of animals... but it's so far off that we can only dream for now.

For a girl we have decided on Emmalynn Joy or Emma Lynn Joy. Emmalynn comes from the show army wives as one couples daughter. My husband is in the army and i love the show and we both fell in love with it.

For a boy we have decided on Adrian Christan. Both names are male characters in my favorite book series. Hubby wasn't too set on it but I refuse to change it.

@Caitmarae my god daughters older sister's name is Fiona and i dont associate it with orges or skanks. i do love both of your choices.

@UpstateCait:  Fiona is great. Just quirky enough.

@KatyElle:  I love you're knew name so much more! Gwendolyn was in our top 5 girls name. It was my favorite.

I really loved the name Chase for a boy but DH hated it.  So we're going with Jackson Edmund. Edmund is my Uncles name who is very close to me and is dying of a terminal illness. I just hope he makes it long enough to meet out little guy (sorry that was a downer)

@UpstateCait:  I really like the name Fiona:)

DH is also convinced it's Y chromosomes only for us, (maybe one girl) so here is what we have....

Jack Lawrence - John was DH's grandpa that died before he was born. He picked this out before me, so it's been in mind for a long time. Lawrence is DH's middle name and his dad's first name.

Nicholas Louis - we like Nick, and Louis is DH's great-grandfather's name. Louise is his mom's middle name, so it plays on that as well.

Connor Lee - like Connor (also one of my favorite boy cow names, lol) Lee is his dad's middle name, and the middle name of the man I consider my grandfather

Zachary Luke - we go back and forth, he likes Luke for a first name, but I like Zach better and since I'm writing this post, Zach goes first. Luke is just a name we like.

Emma Lynn - he really likes the name Emma, and my middle name is Lynn.

The 'L' middle name will be a theme, as both DH and I have an 'L' middle name. I'd like to throw a couple more girl names in - Claire, Keira (middle name Leanne - a combo on my adopted grandad's and mom's middle names), and various others, lol!

Oddly enough FI and I have only picked out girl names. We can't seem to settle on a boy's name. Maybe its fate, and we'll have all girls. =)

I love love the name Olivia. When I was a kid I learned it meant olive tree which the branches are used to signify peace. I always thought that was a cool thing.

My next girl will be named Emma. It's from one of my favorite Jane Austen books.

If I end up having a third girl her name will be Morgan which comes from the Arthur legend.

    Girls:

    Caroline Elizabeth

    Annie Kate

    Madeline Eloise

Girls are so much easier for me to pick! The only one DH agrees on is Annie

    Boys:

    Jack K

DH's middle name is K (literally just the letter K) and his father's middle name is Kay, so we want to continue the tradition.

I've got a good case of the baby rabies going on as well.

I think Fiona is super cute for a little girl! :)

My FI and I have talked about it a lot. I am not totally hooked on the boys name but we still have a few years to think about it.

    Girl = Ellie Grace

    Boy = William Kale

FI's name is William and he's the 5th generation to have that name so we feel like we have to keep it going! FI is in love with the name Kale. All I can think of when I hear that name is a big old pile of leafy vegetables! lol :/

Wwe've got Natalie Rose and Cole Thomas on our list. (Middle names are my fiance's mom's name and my dad's name, respectively.)

My fiance has been in love with the name Jakob (with a k!) for a long time. I do like it, and I respect his wishes, (esp. since Natalie is my dream name), but it has been very very popular lately. One of us brought up the name Cole and we both fell in love, so it's worked out very well!

Other names we've got in our bank: Jakob, Katherine, Avery, Owen

Ahh... baby name dreaming... can I play? :)  I'm starting to grow very fond of Fiona, OP.

For our first hypothetical daughter, I've been caught up on Amelia for years.  Sophie-Anne has been a top-runner in the past year.  But, recently, I've been mulling over Scarlett again (After my favorite movie character, ever).  If we have a daughter and she is born with mommy's hair and daddy's eyes, we might just name her Scarlett.  FI wants her to be Athena.  I don't like Athena, too much, though.

For a boy, it's definitely Xander.  FI and I both love that one.

Fiona is so pretty! Love this thread :)

We've chosen 2 boy names and 1 girl name so far

    1. Benjamin Douglas - DHs grandpa was named Benjamin (Bennie for short) and he was very close to him. He passed away almost 3 years ago and ever since we have said that we will name our first son after him. Douglas is after my uncle who passed away in 2004.

    2. Charlotte Jean - Charlotte is a name I've always loved. I think it's timeless and beautiful and has cute nicknames. Jean was my grandmother's name.

    3. Marshall Thomas - Both of us just like the name Marshall and Thomas is my husband's middle name

    Girl names:

    1) Hadley Paige- I fell in love with the name Hadley after watching a reality show (can't remember the name...something about southern belles). DH is a history dork and apparently there used to be some company named "Handley Page," so he thought Paige would be a cute middle name. I just let him go with that one... haha

    2) Elley Katherine- I worked at a daycare and there was a little girl named Elley who was seriously so freaking adorable!  And Katherine is my sister's middle name.

    Boy names:

    1) Nathan Dean- We just both agreed on the name Nathan and Dean is a family name from my side.

    2) Trevor Michael- Again, we both like Trevor, DH's parents also used to joke with him and call him Trevor. His name is similar to Trevor and it used to be his nickname.  Michael is a family name from DH's side.

@Mrs Sarah McK: @Pinksapphire:    I really like the name Amelia too, or Mia also. DH and I have not discussed this too far in depth, mostly to avoid the trap of falling in love with a name only to have a close family member or friend use it. So we are preventing it by not choosing names until I'm actually pregnant.

The only set decision is for a boy the middle name would be Aaron after DH's first name. It should of been James after DH's middle name, also his father's and grandfather's, traditionally the males in their family pass it down...but that is where we didn't avoid the name stealing. FSIL decided she wanted to use all of the name traditions in the family for her children, We were offended she never even asked FI if he planned on using them, though I guess it's not a huge deal for cousins to have the same middle name. Just annoying.

But getting back to the point, for a girl my favorite names are Rachel, Amelia, Heather, Keira, Amy, and Sophia. And for a middle I love Alison, after...don't laugh...Taylor Swift. Yes, I have a problem, lol. For a boy I like Bejamin, Zachary, Justin, Ryan, Nathan, Landon, Lucas, Travis, and Gavin.

Dh likes the names Luke and Leia. Yeah, that is not happening. So you are not the only one with that problem, @Mrs D.

@theredhead:  I had a friend named Kale, I liked it! But he spelled differently so I thought less of the vegetable, it was Cayle.

    For boys, we like:

Malcolm Robert Warren - Malcolm because it's a good Scottish name/the name of one of my favourite characters from a TV show/love the nickname Mal, Robert after FI's relative who was a father figure to him growing up, and Warren after the street FI grew up on.

    OR

Liam Robert - Liam just because it's one we've heard and both love, and again Robert after FI's relative.

Those are my two front runners but we also like the names Cole, Logan, Quinn, and  Wesley.

    For girls:

Ariana Francoise  - I have no idea where I came up with Ariana but it sounds great with my FI's last name and I love the nickname Ari (I have a thing about nicknames). Francoise after my aunt who passed away when I was young.

    OR

Lily Francoise - FI loves Lily, it was my great grandmother's nickname, and it's from Harry Potter....we're geeks. Francoise, again after my aunt.

We also like Amelia, Isla, Paige, and Rosalie.

We can't ever come up with boy names, haha.

For a girl we really like Lillian, Lilly for short. Possibly Marie for a middle name, but we didn't really "decide". It sounds nice with his last name though.

I also absoulutely looooove the name Evelyn, but FI says it's too old fashioned. :/ Again, it sounds so great with his last name... I wish he liked it haha.
