Who drinks more - you or your SO?
If one of you drinks more than the other... have you found your drinking "equalizing" somewhere in the middle?
Me. I tend to like a glass of wine at night or a small cocktail... he is not much of a drinker at all. As a result, yes, it's equalizing. I'm drinking much less often, and he has a glass once in a great while himself.
I drink more often - I tend to socialize with friends or colleagues after work at least once a week (which FI doesn't get to do, he's a medical resident). I also get to spend more time with friends on the weekend (again, FI has less time for this) which usually involves a drink or two. My socializing/drinking has basically stayed the same because he is not usually around when I socialize. Ie, I make my plans for nights when he has to work. When we go out together, though, we usually consume about the same amount.
I'd say w'ere about equal. It has taken awhile to get to this point as we started dating in college when we drank... more. Today it is more equal though it tends to be that I drink more often (class of wine here, cocktail after work there) while he may drink more at any one sitting. This works out pretty well and I'm glad we're a little more tame than in college :)
I drink more than FI but only because he doesn't drink at all. Not beer, not wine and no liquor. I am not a huge drinker myself, I would have half a glass of wine with dinner occasionally and few drinks when we go out, maybe once a week.
He hates alcohol in all forms and doesn't drink ever. I have something to drink MAYBE once a month. It's rare. So we're pretty equal. Though I know it would have been a serious relationship issue if I drank very often.
That would def. be the significant other. Until I met him, I had never been drunk before (a lot of that was age, though, its not that he turned me into a raging alcoholic
)
My FI made a promise to himself when he was 12 that he would never drink, smoke, or do drugs (because of problems his family had with those substances) and he never has. He's okay with people who drink in moderation, thank goodness, because I certainly do! I socially drink, but it's in definite moderation.
Him for sure! I'm a light weight. But he drinks a lot less since we met.
I will get totally smashed maybe 2 or 3 times a year. (New years, my birthday, my bestfriends birthday) And not drink anything else all year long.
He will have a beer everynight after work, so it balances out
We are about equal, although I think he has a few more drinks than me when we go out, but he is also 70 pounds more than me!
We drink a glass of wine almost every night with dinner. We go out on the weekends and usually get a bottle with dinner and then meet our friends out.
Ha! We both drink a little too much. When we met I was just getting over my black-out-as-often-as-possible phase and he was still in his. Now we keep all wildness to the weekends and are much more likely to go for a nice bottle of wine than a pitcher or shots. He still drinks more. Trying to keep up is trouble for me.
My FI definitely drinks more. I am a lighweight and have alcoholism in my family, so I usually keep it to weekends and only a couple drinks. My FI was a huge partier (sp?) before we met and still likes to have fun with his friends, but the frequency has definitely gone way down since we met. He just gave up weekday beers (he used to have maybe one a night) for lent, which is good for the wedding diet!
We drink about the same so no arguments there. We drink for social occassions and if and when there is actually liquor/alcohol at our house we drink casually.
I'm more likely to have a glass of wine after work, but when we do go out he'll drink more than I do. I think it probably evens out. Before we met he drank A LOT more than I ever did.
I don't drink @ all and since my FI has been with me he hardly ever drinks either except for the occasional beer while he's watching a game or something. I prefer it that way
We equally don't drink much, only socially with friends. Even when we do go out for the occasional drink, we know our limit is around one glass, whether it be wine or in my case, beer. We are both extreme light weights, and a tiny bit of alcohol will hit be fast.
Our situation sounds pretty similar to MsAnnaLytical. My fiance also made a promise to himself at a young age to never drink alcohol or partake in any other substance due to his family history and he is very health/body-conscious. I'll maybe have a drink socially if I'm out with friends, but nothing major, as I also don't really like the effects it can have on the body and I kinda hate the taste of alcohol.
considering my hubby doesnt drink at all.. I drink more even with the one glass of wine a week I MAY have.
I too am the "drinker" in our relationship.. as he has never drank (in part with is faith). I was a more social drinker before I met him and since we have ben together I am slowed down but I do enjoy my glass of wine with the girls and with dinner...
he does... prob 2 glasses of wine or beer on weekends... i'm usually a 1 glass wine drinker.
I can hold my liquor, but he drinks more than me for sure... I live at my parent's right now and feel funny pouring myself a glass of wine when I get home, but he lives with a roommate.
Mr. Bee~ why is it that you don't answer the questions yourself? ![]()
I don't drink at all and he likes to drink when he goes out. It's strange cuz I used to be able to drink a little in college...can one develop an allergy to alcohol?
lovebird - one of my friends is allergic to alcohol. She can't stomach it and she has a crazy allergic reaction. So I think it is possible!
I don't drink, whereas Mr. Bean enjoys having a beer or a rye and coke every once and a while.
I don't drink at all and he drinks wine with his family. They have a tradition of W.O.D. which is Wine On Deck. (A few years ago his parents had a new deck installed and it's gorgeous... whenever it's nice out and everyone is home we have WOD.) We also have WOCC (Wine on Cape Cod), WAP (Wine At Pond) and WIC (Wine in Camper). Wherever we are if there is Wine there is some silly acronym for it... We're weird like that! :D They all have wine and I always have a Coke! haha
I don't drink for the same reason as MissAnaLytical's FI. Family history & alcohol don't mix and I don't want to chance it... I don't mind when others drink though, so I LOVE WOD! :)
Also, FMIL is HILARIOUS when she gets tipsy! She gets giggly and goofy and it's funny to see (it doesn't happen often and she'd never drive afterwards).
oh, FI for sure! I had my moments when I could keep up, and I guess it really depends on the occasion, but he's not as particular about the calorie intake as I am, which is all that pretty much keeps me from knocking back a few every once and a while!
I'm a lightweight -- two drinks, and I'm usually beyond tipsy!
So, it'd be Mr. Bruschetta, but not by much!
Neither of us ever drink! But when it happens, he's always the gentleman and lets me drink so he'll be the DD (I have strong opinions there...). I think he does it because I become...amorous...when I'm drunk!
@lovebird - I can't always answer the questions without answering them for Mrs. Bee as well! So I leave them unanswered to protect Bee's privacy, and she can choose to answer them if she wants. :-)
My FI, definitely. He was much crazier before we got together, but being with me (biggest lightweight in the world) has tamed him somewhat.
I'm a lightweight also, and I can't have more than 2 drinks without starting to feel tipsy.
But I'd say we drink about equally. For example, if I had a difficult/stressful day, I will come home and have a glass or two of wine. He will go out with his friends every once in a while and have lots of drinks at once. ![]()
I drink more by far. He is really a wine or sake person, and I have a total foodie/nerdy interest in alcohol of all kinds. His family is also very passionate about their fine liquors, and I have bonded with his dad over finding and sampling fine beverages. Now they nag him less to drink on the holidays, which is nice.
He doesn't drink at all and I'm a Guinness girl. So I def drink more than him. A lot more.
Considering that Mr. Sushi and I met in a bar, we were both pretty heavy drinkers at the time. Since then, my liver hates me and I now can't drink much without feeling poopy (sugary drinks make me feel yucky, I'm a beer gal). Not drunk poopy, upset stomach poopy. Years ago, when the mister and I "seperated" for awhile, he got into some drinking influenced trouble (DUI) and while we might have an occasional drink here and there, its more of a social thing now and not a drunkard thing.
Neither of us really like to drink. We try stuff but rarely like it. He likes wine though while I hate it. Overall he drinks more, but its still hardly ever.
He drinks more often, although still only a few drinks per month. I rarely ever drink. When I do, it's usually a glass of wine or a daiquiri and often a special occasion.
definitely him. i'll drink a glass of wine on occassion, but he'll drink a beer or two several nights a week.
Mr. Powder Puff, definitely. I barely drink at all now, and have no tolerance for it!
The most I'll do is a glass of wine with dinner, and then maybe a drink afterwards. Beyond that I'm done.
