My heart says that I'm not a white dress girl... but I did end up with a gold dress that looked--in the end-- somewhat traditional.
I say do whatever makes you feel right. There is tons of inspiration out there for colored dresses. One only need to spend seconds at Offbeat bride to find it ;)
I really wanted a pink, green, or light blue dress but I ended up with an ivory dress because the other ones didn't make me feel like a bride.
Go for it! I love the look of a non-traditional wedding dress.
I didn't want one, but in the end it was really important to my mom and FI that I have a white (or at least mostly white) dress. But if your heart is really telling you to go non-traditional, go for it! I think a non white dress would look stunning and amazing, and everyone will still know you're the bride, so long as it's a dramatic dress.
I feel like you and my own mom who loves me to death tells me that stark white makes me look washed out. I am an encore bride also and was a littlw wishy washy about the whole white dress thing. They ONLY reason I am doing it is because FI's onlyrequest so far has been that I wear a white dress. However, mom and I found that while white may not be flattering, diamond white is much more flattering. While in the dressing room thsi past weekend we compared the white, diamond white and ivory dresses. diamond white really is not that big of a stretch from ivory. So, I've decided diamond white it is! :)
I am having NO white at my wedding and I'm loving it! My dress is a dove gray and I'm so excited, go with your gut and it will be fabulous to you! Also, don't let people tell you, it's a mistake. I'm having a blast coming up with unique colorful ideas!
i swore up and down that I would never have a white wedding dress...and now i do. lol.
i've got an offwhite dress for the same reason that stark white doesn't look good on me. am also changing into a white and red dress - wear whatever makes you happy!
I knew a girl who did a pink color, although I think pink did to her what white probably does to you, as she has a more ruddy complexion. But some people would look GREAT in a pastel-y dress like that.
A past coworker did a GORGEOUS burgundy/maroon gown and looked just absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Do what suits you!!!!!
mine's a light gold color. White just doesn't look good with my pale skin. Wear what makes you feel good!
I don't intend to wear a white dress (and that goes for anything in the ivory/pastel family as well) because not only do I not look good in white or light colors at all but I don't own anything white for that reason. I do have clothing that has a tiny bit of white but the other colors are much more predominant as they are more flattering on me.
I actually look better in darker colors, which I like anyway, so I'm leaning toward that myself. If that means I have to get a dress custom-made, then so be it. I've seen alot of wedding dresses that are cute but they would never work for me because white makes me look deathly sick (ivory does too). But those styles are great as inspiration for designing my own.
Even the most traditional folks (of family and friends) I've mentioned that idea to say it wouldn't be me all if I was in a white or light colored dress.
my dress is grey. i go back & forth thinking maybe i should get a white dress for the ceremony & then change, but the grey dress really is beautiful, i love how different it is. go for it!
I plan on wearing a gray dress, but I'm a rebride {vow renewal}, so I don't think it's the same. I might wear white, but I am in love with the gray idea right now.
I want either a blush pink or a gold or silver dress. I'm open-minded and honestly, being a blue eyed blonde, white doesn't do me a bit of good as a color to wear. I don't really like wearing it.
i'm at least going ivory, i want a gold toned gown, maybe even silver, i'm a red head with pale skin so no white for me, i really would love a teal gown but i think my dad's catholic family would lose their minds
I think it depends on the season for me. If I was having a winter wedding it would be a white dress but I am having a fall wedding so I would rather have champagne, light gold, espresso, something a little darker and also white glares a lot in outdoors so I like darker colors.
Whatever you want is what you should get. It is your wedding:)
I'm planning on a red dress. I love red and look like death in white/offwhite/etc.
The red dress is the only thing I've known I *HAD* to have at/for my wedding since we got engaged in October last year!
I went to a wedding a few years ago where the bride wore the most beautiful red ballgown - she was utterly stunning in it, and had red rosebuds in her hair. fabulous.
I say go with the dress you feel best in, whatever the colour. My mum wore green for her 2nd wedding.
I wasn't crazy about the idea of a traditional dress period...however Fi is! lol. I do love my dress now that it's mine but I did do some window shopping on other gowns first. I love the idea of a black and white gown!!
I have a blush pink dress from Maggie Sottero. In some light it looks white. I didn't look good in a diamond white or even an off white. I looked better in the light gold, moca and pink.
I went with the pink dress because it just made me look super tiny and who can argue with a dress like that!
I want to wear a light pink dress, because I love the colour and it looks fantastic on me, and figure that I should look and feel fabulous on my wedding day. I haven't been shopping yet, so this might change, but I know there's going to be a few pink accessories involved if I do end up wearing white. My mum's dress had a little bit of yellow in it, so it feels like I'm keeping up an awesome family tradition by going for a splash of colour.

I hate the way I look in white. Plus, I was married before (albeit for 3 weeks only and 10 years ago). But mostly, I just find it an awful color on me.
Anyone else not keen on having a white (or at least ALL white) dress?
I was thinking black & white or maybe all purple.
