Sweetheartdealer you read my mind!!!
I still have brittle nails from wearing tips for a special event a half a year ago, but I have been letting mine grow out nicely (until the ends decide they want to chip and break....grrrrr), trying to keep them looking somewhat nice and filed with a clear coat of polish, but nothing crazy. But yes, i totally think about keeping my nails looking nice for the inevitable day!
Now what would be nice would be for the boy to treat me for a mani pedi a day or two (or the day of) before the proposal! :)
I tried to keep my nails up months before we got engaged but wouldn't you know it, when he did propose, my nails looked like crap!
I did a nice job of not gnawing on mine leading up to the engagement and i have a few pics of nice, non-polished, long, strong nails. Then i gave in and had to keep up acrylics for months. With everybody grabbing your hand all the time, i couldn't keep being embarassed! And i slowly ran out of time to do my nails every 3 days, haha
tessabella, thats a riot. i sometimes think about chewing all my nails down to little nubs, hoping that this will bring about an engagment quicker!! (lol sick right??)
I am afraid I do not pay attention to my nails at all. I am a biologist and I teach so my hands are often exposed to chemicals, frog guts and swamp waters, amongstother things. Although I love my engagement ring, I get a bit annoyed that I have to worry about it and often take it off. We are planning on getting simple two-tone wedding bands and we chose the design because neither one of us normally take our rings off. After the wedding I plan to wear just the wedding band and add the engagement ring when I know my hands will not be exposed to messy situations.
I always try to keep my nails looking neat and trim. I skip the color, though. It chips too much on my fingers. A quick clear coat is all I need.
bluespurrs, that's an awesome job! Worth the messiness :)
Soon2Be... that's a riot. Maybe I need to neglect my nails too then and it will happen! I have a feeling it will be soon.. bf has been teasing me here and there, so hopefully he's on to something!
haha i know its backwards thinking!!! having chewed up nails but a beautiful ring and being able to formally begin wedding planning!!! lol
Wow... I never even thought about this! I play the guitar and paint, so I keep my nails short and bare. The paint would never last! I think they look fine though-- When he slides that ring on my hand my hands may not look like princess hands but they will definitely look like the hands he has gotten to know and love!
This thread cracked me up! I usually have my nails well manicured, but the month when I thought I was about to get engaged, I took extra-special care of them. I made sure that they were done well and in neutral colors.
hahaha, i have been taking better care of my nails lately, but not on purpose, or at least, not intentially because of engagement fever! i have awful, awful nails because i pick at and bite them, either when i'm concentrating on something or nervous. but for some reason, i managed to not tear at them for long enough for them to grow and look decent, so for the past month i've been actively polishing and filing them so they can stay decent. but, i admit i have thought of eventual ring photos as a motivation to not ruin them... ;)
I always try to keep them short, clean, and coated with clear polish. No matter what, but I would be lying if it hadn't crossed my mind to keep them looking good for that surprise ring. Knowing me, it would be the day that I got ink all over my hands and under my nails.
i am trying to do a better job of keeping my nails nice & manicured. I've started rewarding myself with weekly manicures if i go to the gym 5 days during the week. it's been a good way to keep me motivated to hit the gym & keep my nails nice...
ha! love the story about your friend... i saw a magazine with a voucher for a free manicure this week and thought, oh better buy that just in case! :-) hehe.
My nails look like crap cuz I've had the week from hell.. Maybe reverse pyschology will work and he'll do it! Cross yer fingers! ;)
I'm pretty good at keeping up with the length/shape of my nails but I don't paint them often. I'll definitely have them painted for The Big Day though! :)
If I don't keep up with the nail polish, filing, buffing, etc, then I tend to pick at my nails...but as soon as they look nice, I won't touch them at all! And now, with this beautiful ring on my hand, I feel like they need to look perfect at all times, since everyone is grabbing my hand to look at it!
I try - but sometimes the nails are not a priority - and if I don’t have much time I rather fix my eyebrows than my nails hehe
I'm always nibbling at my nails, and I have to keep them trimmed short for my work (student nurse), plus my sister is always stealing my nail polish, so my nails are not kept nice, even when I knew a proposal was imminent.
I have pretty long nails that look decent but with all my crafting they are always breaking or getting scuffed up...so when I want to showcase my ring I glue on nice pretty ones over my real ones! lol....always ready with picture perfect nails in my purse.

So.. my boyfriend finally caught on tonight as he walked into our room and saw me polishing my nails.. "You've been painting your nails a lot," he said. I couldn't help but have a devilish little face and he said "ohh... I know why...". LOL. I figure - I just want them to look nice for the moment! Anybody else been keeping their nails pretty and polished? My friend tells a funny story - she woke up a few weeks ago and just had a sudden urge to get a manicure. That very night, her BF proposed! Good timing! I just go for a simple light pink polish and keep the nails buffed and rounded. How bout you?
