I was just wondering why you are doing this theme? Are you and FI history buffs for this period? I’ve seen Gone With the Wind themed weddings, they look like fun!

I like things from the Victoiran/Edwardian period too.   Looks like you are going to have a lavish wedding 😀

Oh how fun!! If I had my way (haha) I’d totally do ancient Roman style. Just because I’m that seriously nerdy. I love the ancient traditions (which are actually at the root of some of our modern customs) and I find their religion fascinating. Oh and I LOVE Latin!

We’re getting married in Turkey which has tons of ancient history so I guess I’ll just have to be happy with that 🙂

@MadsTheGallifreyan:  I just took a good look at the dress… Holy smokes! That’s incredible! And also seems to defy several laws of physics 🙂 I see your wedding is still a ways off, do come back and post pics on the Bee when it’s all ready!

Wow… That’s an awesome idea!!

We are adding elements of Art Nouveau (1890-1920) into our wedding. We did find an art gallery here in Perth, Australia, that was built in 1910 and fit with the theme, but the interior is very minimal and modern and not what we wanted, not to mention being over budget…

We have bought an antique copper charger type plate to host our wedding cake and an antique cake knife. I will wear a reproduction inspired slide in my hair (the real deal was a few hundred $$’s over my budget, sadly). A few other details are still coming together, but they are the main ones so far.

@MadsTheGallifreyan:   We did a mash of art deco with some Victorian thrown in.  If you’re talking top hats, I’ve done quite a lot of sourcing on those.  If you want any links, shoot me a pm.  I look forward to the pictures; that era is just before the settling of our current formal wear dress codes, and I love all details you can see that were incorporated into new combinations over the next few decades.

@MadsTheGallifreyan:  we’re not doing the time period as a theme in itself, but we’re going to have stuff like table names, drinks etc named after our favorite artists and writers. Most are from the 1880s-1910s. However some stuff is from a bit later, like 1930s. So really I guess we will be time traveling all over the place haha. My FI is a writer and I am a photographer/designer who studied a lot of art history so that’s why we chose this idea. Pretty excited, hopefully it works and doesn’t seem too random. We just want it to be a bunch of stuff we like : )

WOW! Your wedding if going to be stunning! Can’t wait to see photos!

We kind of are…

I’m part of the vintage / rockabilly scene here in NZ and dress in 1950s fashions every day and enjoy the music, films, decor etc of that decade. As this is my every day style oour wedding will definitely be vintage (just not Pinterest vintage!)

We are getting married in an historic movie theatre with our reception at a black box theatre.

My current project is figuring out how to make a paper moon set up as a photobooth!

That’s amazing!

We are doing a little bit of historical stuff. The bridesmaids’ dresses (if they ever get finished…) are all replicas of dress photos from the 50s, and my dress is a very close approximation of Grace Kelly’s dress.

Yours sounds way more ambitious, though! PLEASE post a recap!!!
