I didn't even realize until someone at work told me last night that our area is expecting anywhere from 15-19 inches of snow in the next few days. Tomorrow and Wednesday it's supposed to be realllly bad with snow falling at 2-3 inches per hour! (I'm assuming white out conditions). Thing is, I can only think of one time in the last three or four years I've worked at my job that they've closed due to weather. I'm just hoping that our DM will think of our safety before I got out of bed and try leaving in this awful weather.
(Reports are saying it's going to be life-threatening weather and if I know anything about our area the plows won't be able to keep up)
We are too here in Southern Ontario. Up to 30cm (1 foot) in a lot of areas! Yikes! I'm secretly hoping my school will be cancelled though. I have homework to catch up on. :-)
Yup, we're bracing for it here as well. Tuesday evening to Wednesday early afternoon, they're saying. I'm originally from western Canada, so it doesn't really worry me...this is pretty standard winter stuff where I'm from. But I do feel sorry for all the people who have to drive in that weather, particularly since a lot of people here still think that winter tires are optional. There's probably going to be traffic-related fatalities over the next few days. Makes me kind of sad, really. :/
In Michigan, we're expecting 8-15 inches of snow. My school has a policy of never closing for snow, so I'll probably have to go to class on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to some good sledding after class though!
We're not expecting alot of snow, but I did hear it's supposed to be 20 below tonight...YUCK...especially since it was 67 on Friday. lol
everything is closing early and there is nothing but a little rain, its like this ominous scary cloud everyone is waiting on...
We're expecting the same. Though I'll believe it when it hits the ground - we never get it as bad as the predict. I did just start my car 30 min before I have to leave to melt the massive amount of ice that has accumulated over the day. Here's to hoping no work tomorrow!!
In Kansas City they are prediciting record snowfall, the current record occured over 50 years ago.
@Brianalaura: I'm in Toronto and a teacher! We are ALL hoping for a snow day! In the 5 years i've been teaching I've had one snow day!
@angelica3025: yeah I'm about an hour away from there so I'm assuming we will get hit with similar amounts
I did my undergrad at KU, about 45 mins west of Kansas City, and grew up in St Louis.. both of them it sounds like are getting slammed with ice and/or snow, but it looks like the Cincinnati region, where I'm going to school now, is going to miss a lot of it. From my understanding there's supposed to be freezing rain, but temps are only supposed to drop to like 28 tonight I think, so idk if it will actually freeze enough to call off school (doing a schools practicum this semester). I've had 3 snow days so far in the last 3 weeks so I';ve been a little spoiled, but I'm going to be highly upset if KC AND StL get snow days and I don't. It never snowed much in St Louis when I lived there and then after I left for college & also for grad school, it seems like St Louis gets it all the time! Lame.
@Danielle81: I'm from Brampton, but in teacher's college, so I'm hoping Brock Hamilton campus will be cancelled. I'll have my fingers crossed for you! Best snow days were when I was in high school up Caledon way, and our school was cancelled every time the buses got cancelled. AKA a lot!!
Apparently we're looking at a little snow & some freezing rain here in Cleveland. Honestly for us it doesn't sound very bad (at least to me) but the weather people are making a huge deal out of it. And therefore my mom is freaking out, because I have to drive from Cleveland to Akron at 6am tomorrow for class. She's trying to get me to go now and stay at my brother's house in Akron but I really don't want to. lol. And he's telling me it's not really going to be bad. So I have no idea what to do. Stupid winter.
@HappyCrickets: Well hey there neighbor! From what I understand we're supposed to get the biggest storm of the year, but nothing has been too terrible yet so I'm not sure what that means exactly. But since I'm in Hiram that pretty much means no one is going anywhere for a few days because there are like 2 plow trucks for the whole village, and lots of commuter students who won't be able to get onto campus. I'd be careful driving from Cleveland to Akron, but since it's main roads you should be fine if you leave early.
WI is suposed to get 15-18 inches. I am NOT excited! It started with 3 inches this morning, and that was enough for me :/
Here in Kansas City they're predicting 8-14 inches by Wednesday morning (we're getting ice right now). I work for an after school program and we're betting on it being closed for the next two days at least, if not for the rest of the week (because Kansas City doesn't clear their streets :-P)
This is my first blizzard. I don't know what to expect. As of now, school has been cancelled and Hubby can work from home. I just hope the lights don't go out.
@Miss Fish: Hey. =) I just read the National Weather Service report for Cleveland/Akron. Apparently we're supposed to get 2-4 inches tonight, then light snow during the day tomorrow, then heavy snow Tuesday afternoon/evening, and freezing rain Tuesday night into Wednesday. So I'm thinking tomorrow morning doesn't sound bad but probably packing a bag and staying down there tomorrow. Stupid University of Akron never cancels classes... I ended up in a ditch on my way down there a couple of weeks ago when we had a big storm.
We just went into "Blizzard Watch" Storm Mode- it is already coming down. Poor DH walked to work this morning because he thought I needed the truck :/
We are supposed to get a lot of ice here in Maryland. They said "treacherous drives with impassable roads". Lovely... I'd rather have snow any day!
We're expecting a few inches of snow, with a few inches of ice on top of that. I'm really hoping that it isn't too bad.. I can drive in snow no problem, but ice is altogether a different story!
I'm in St. Louis, and I'm a teacher. We are supposed to get anywhere from 1/2" to 3/4" of ice, then 8-12" of snow on top of it. That's in my area of St. Louis, others could be getting anywhere from 12" - 24". Yowza! The grocery stores were incredible yesterday. You would have thought that they were giving away the food!
They say the snow will be coming in sideways here in Kansas City tomorrow! We are expecting 8-14 inches...they are predicting that it is the biggest snow storm since the 60's! I am looking forward to a few snow days, although my district only built in one snow day and we have already had three. My summer will start a little later now. Oh well!
It's snowing really hard here, but this is Minnesota, so we could 14" and school still wouldn't be cancelled.
We're expecting ice here...my BIL told me it was absolutely beautiful to watch, but that I should stay indoors. I almost wish we were getting the snow.
Yikes. I guess we are suposed to have 50 mile an hour winds too, that will create snow banks 4 feet high :/
Maybe I'm the odd one out, but I say, Bring on the snow!!!! What's a winter without snow?!
@farmersgirl: We already have snowbanks here that almost as tall as me! I love snow, but COME ON! It's getting crazy here. You can't park anywhere because our streets are 6" wide because of the stupid snow.

We're supposedly going to get hit with lots of ice and freezing rain. Nothing seems to have started...yet...but apparently tomorrow will be bad. I wouldn't mind my class being cancelled! I know that for sure! For now, I am cozy at home in my pjs.
@Danielle81: Wow, that's crazy! I'm a teacher as well from PEI, and we are guaranteed usually 1 every couple of weeks haha... we had one last week, and are expected to get one wednesday of this week :)
Well, we got about another foot last week and now it's going to be an ice storm. I'm THRILLED /insert sarcasm text. Our side roads/streets are still absolutely horrible. This will be the 7th week that we're getting some sort of winter storm.
St. Louis here too. Like other said, lots of ice followed by 8-12 inches of snow. We didnt even get all of the 9 1/2 inches of snow from last week melted yet!
Thank God, Im off until Thursday.
Here in MO, they have already called a state of emergency. Blizzard Warning and Winter Storm Warning. Here in Columbia, a lot of businesses have already put up signs closing for tomorrow.
We are expecting up to an inch of ice, and 18-24 inches of snow. Fabulous. Here is our little "special weather statement"
AREA #1: ALL SNOW & BLIZZARD WITH 14 TO 22 INCHES OF SNOW EXPECTED - this is for Audrain, Boone, Chariton, Cooper, Howard, Macon, Moniteau, Monroe, Morgan, Pettis, Randolph, and Saline counties...including the cities of Columbia, California, Marshall, Sedalia, Boonville, Fayette, Keytesville, Moberly, Mexico, Macon, and Paris.
- Very light sleet or snow through this evening. A very light glazing is possible, along with up to 1 inch of sleet or snow.
- Snow will rapidly develop late tonight and become heavy at times all day on Tuesday. A brief period of sleet is possible. Thunder is also possible with very heavy snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour Tuesday afternoon and early evening. Snow tapers off by Wednesday morning.
- Winds will gust to 40 mph Tuesday night and Wednesday morning resulting in blizzard and whiteout conditions for several hours.
- Confidence is HIGH in this area that it will remain all snow and make travel impossible. Snow drifts in this area could exceed four feet by Wednesday morning!
@lilgreenbee: what district do you teach in? I know the KCMO district has already had 6 snow days (plus afterschool activities being cancelled two additional days) and we're expecting at least a couple more this week. I don't know how many they planned for, but I'm sure we're already beyond it :-P
We're expecting lots of ice and snow here, right outside of St. Louis. Sad part is, we got a memo today at work saying that no matter what happens, they will not close. But don't worry, we can wear jeans! I may die in a car accident on my way to or from work, but at least I'll be comfortable in my jeans! It's not like I work at a hospital or anything either.
