My FI and I have booked a cruise for our honeymoon. We are leaving from Miami on the Carnival Valor and the stops include Half Moon Cay, San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and Grand Turk. Having booked that, it makes me want to focus more on planning that than the wedding!
where are you going on your cruise honeymoon and with what cruise line? And did you pick the itinerary because you of certain activities you wanted to do on your honeymoon? Just curious...
Wooo! My fiance and I are going on a cruise too :) He's in law school so we're taking a "late" honeymoon in January to the Caribbean. So excited!
We are both really keen to do a cruise but haven't looked into it much yet, it depends on days they set sail etc.
Ideally we are looking at going to pacific islands close to NZ, rarotonga, samoa, fiji etc however we did see a one way cruise from Hawaii to NZ that we are keen to look into further, because it is longer we wouldn't mind flying one way and having some time on the land before coming back home.
I'm an NCL girl. I really like the freestyle cruising. We're currently considering a cruise for next year. It's pretty convenient since they leave out of New York. I looked at Princess but I'm not sure about them yet.
Me & my fiance went on a cruise last December! We had been on ones before, but that was our first time together. We had a blast! But for some reason, he said he absolutely does not want to go on one for our honeymoon. :( He didn't have a good reason, either. I wish we were, though! Cruises are really super affordable & fun!
Congratulations and enjoy your cruise for me!
We are taking a cruise! Carnival Victory leaving from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Our stops are:St. Thomas, Barbados, Saint Lucia, St Kitts, St. Maarten.
We chose this cruise because we wanted Carnival Cruise as we have heard they are the fun ship and will have a younger crowd compared to some other cruise ships.
we are!!! we got married in september but couldn't go on a "real" honeymoon because i am working and in graduate school. so once exams are over in may we are cruising to honduras, mexico, belize, and grand cayman. i am SO excited but a tad nervous about being on the open ocean... anyone wanna calm my fears on that?!
@Miss PumpkinPenguin: I have been on a couple of cruises and I love it when at sea. I think it very calming and relaxing to look out at the open sea. Don't worry, if there is bad weather, they can steer the ship out of it.
I like Carnival ships. I have been on Carnival cruises twice and people say it is the "party" ship, but I didn't see that. Don't get me wrong, people were out and enjoying themselves, but I just didn't think it was that much of a party. maybe that is because I went on cruises in August and October. We chose Carnival this time around because of the itinerary. We looked at NCL too, but it was cheaper to do Carnival and it included Grand Turk.
We did! We flew down to San Juan and took a Carnival Cruise to St Thomas, Barbados, Antigua, Dominica, St Kitts and St Lucia. We had an awesome time, snorkeled the champagne reef in Dominica, ziplined in Antigua...oh I would love to go back to that vacation!!
We are! We booked with Royal Caribbean to take a week long cruise out of Barcelona that stops at several ports in France and Italy. I agree with you, though, I just want to plan all the cruise things now instead of the wedding, haha. We picked it because I really wanted to go to Italy and/or Greece in general, and FI has been wanting us to take a cruise together. Also he has never been to Europe at all so it'll be a whole bunch of fun for us.
@Miss PumpkinPenguin: I feel exactly the same way about open water which is weird considering I live on an island and have been near the ocean my whole life. I was brought up having holidays on the family boats, and don't mind going on them around bays etc but freak out when we cross from the north island to the south island and I can't see land, I have no idea why - nothing has ever happened to me or anyone I know.
FI assures me it will be fine and that cruise ships are so big they can withstand storms etc but it does un-nerve me a little bit. I still do really want to go on a cruise tho and hope it will make me feel better about it.
we are leaving from tampa on carnival legend for our week long carribean cruise. I'm excited, neither of us have ever been on a cruise before . can't wait!
We're doing a Disney Mediterranean Cruise! I've never been on one, nor have a been to Europe, so I'm REALLY excited. We both love Disney (and he proposed in Disney), so it's really exciting that we have the opportunity!
we are!! We are leaving from Baltimore and are sailing to San Juan, PR, St. Thomas, VI, Dominican Republic, and an island that Royal Caribeean owns off the coast of Haiti. I am like you guys. I don't care about the wedding anymore. I just want to go on the cruise! I cannot wait!!
@afbacher: Whoooaa officially jealous! You're going to absolutely love it. I've been on 2 Disney cruises and they were both fantastic. It'll be just that much better doing it in the Mediterrannean and on your honeymoon!
We are taking a 3-day Carnival cruise from Miami to the Bahamas. We wish we could of gone on a longer vacation but we are still very excited!
We are going on a Carnival cruise too and I think it's also on the Valor. Our cruise will go to Cayman Islands, Belize, Honduras and Cozumel. I can't wait. I have been on so many cruises, but this will be the first time having a room with a balcony. I had to go all out for our honeymoon :) Have fun on your cruise.
We went on a Carnival cruise to Alaska! It was awesome and totally DH and me!
ETA: I've been on both Carnival and Royal Carribean cruises (which are typically priced really similar) and think the RC ships are nicer, have more activities, and better food.
We've sailed on Carnival Valor a few years ago. You will love it!!! Awesome ship and your itinerary is awesome. Have a great time!
@PuntaCanaBride: My FI and I took that exact cruise this past February! We went the week of V-day... he actually proposed while we were in St. Thomas! It's an awesome cruise. If you're into excursions, I totally recommend the ATV tour in St. Maarten & the Segway tour in Barbados! :D
We're hoping to do a Mediterranean cruise for our honeymoon... I'm really hoping to see Italy & Egypt. :o)
We're going on a cruise! It will be the first cruise for each of us! We're going to the Italian Riviera on a Seabourn cruise. We can't wait!!
Were going on a cruise for our honeymoon and I'm soo excited! Carribean Princess out of New York City heading to San Juan, Grand Turk, St. Tomas and Bermuda. 9 days of awesomeness.
I hope my FI will like it (he's never been on a cruise before) One of the main reasons we chose it is because we can just drive down to the cruise terminal the day after our wedding!
@calico61979: Great itinerary! San Juan and St Thomas are great. San Juan has El Morro and yummy 50 cent and dollar beers with great food. St Thomas has Magan's Bay which is one of Nat Geographic's Top 10 most beautiful beaches!!! We are frequent cruisers so not cruising for our honeymoon, but heading back to both of those ports in two weeks for a vacay on Celebrity. :) We've been on every line in pretty much every port!
We are we are!! Royal Carribean Freedom of the Seas, 7 night Eastern Caribbean! We go to CocoCay Bahamas, St. Marteen, and St. Thomas! We are gone all of Thanksgiving week, which is nice because it's free days off of work! And Thanksgiving is my FAVORITE holiday, so we will spend our first one as husband and wife just us! :)
@calico61979:I wanna go on this cruise so bad! FI thinks it's too expensive and we should just do a 5 day to bahamas. But, I'm gonna go ahead and book this because I reallllly want to go on it!
@lawgirl12: well, personally I want at least 7 days. it takes a few days to get used to the ship and all the things to do. Yes, cruises can be expensive, but I don't think it is that much more to do a 7 day than a 5 day. We have an inside cabin because it is the cheapest. I know that sounds terrible, but we won't be in the room that much and it will be fine for us. Also, you can save money not getting all the extras. I am really excited about these ports as I have heard good things about all of them. Good Luck getting the cruise you want!
@calico61979:I just sat FI down and told him he's making me upset b/c he's not on board with this, and a cruise is really the cheapest honeymoon option other than driving down to Savannah (but we're already doing a half marathon in Savannah in Nov and staying in Historic part of town). I went to cruisecritic.com and the Bahamian cruise received a lot of poor reviews. So, FI looked at me, and said okay, book the 7 Day Western Carribbean to San Juan etc!! Eep so excited, we're cruise twins lol!
we are! we just booked it this wk. we're going on a carnival cruise to cozumel, hunduras, belize and grand caymen. we wanted to go somewhere neither of us have been before and thought this one looked amazing. FI has never been on a cruise before, and i've never had a nice cabin with a balcony before. come to think of it, we've never been on a 'real' vacation together before. can't wait!!
We are!!! We are doing the Inaugural Cruise for the Carnival Breeze on its 12 day Mediterranean Cruise next June.
It’s our first cruise together and first trip to Europe. Soooooo pumped… Probably more excited about the trip than the actual wedding (Except for the getting married part which I’m ecstatic about). I actually care more about planning for the shore excursions in Europe than centerpieces, so I guess it’s a good thing I’m having a kind of a laid back morning ceremony and reception.
I’m from Puerto Rico, have been to San Juan a gazillion times, so if any of you gals have questions, ask away!
@MsFrancez: I think in San Juan I would like to just walk around old San Juan. I love history and think this would be a great way to spend the day. I had wanted to go to El Yunque, but as we are going to be in port that day from 7 to 3:30, I knew we would have to get up early and I just don't think I want to do that on our honeymoon. Also, FI is a grouch in the morning. If you have any ideas of places to go to in Old San Juan, I am all for suggestions!
@lawgirl12: I am glad you got the itinerary you wanted! What ship are you going on? We are going to be on the Valor. The Liberty and I think the Glory have similar itineraries as well. We chose the Valor because of the week it was offered. Unfortunately we have a week after our wedding before we leave, but in some ways I am glad. That gives me time after the wedding to pack, so we won't have to fuss with that before the wedding along with all the other stuff that will have to be done.
We're cruising for our HM! We're taking a 7 day from NY to Bermuda onboard the Norwegian Gem. We were originally planning on getting married in Bermuda but after those plans fell through we decided that we would HM there instead. I love that our itinerary gives us 3 full days on the island instead of only a few hours. We really want to be able to fully explore and experience all that Bermuda has to offer.
@Miss Tattoo: the earlier the better, you can get better deals when you book early!
Carnival Cruise to San Juan PR. Nassau, Grand Turk, and St. Thomas is booked!!! Just called and told them we will be celebrating our honeymoon and they said the first formal dinner night they will celebrate it and to dress up! Fun times await!!!
.I just priced the excursions and they're kinda expensive. Anybody doing a honeymoon registry? I've heard mixed reviews that they're tacky, they're alright, but honestly we have already started our marital home! Just today FMIL asked why don't we have linens on our registry? Well, because I've already spent money on nice new towels that are less than 6mos old. Why no China? Well because I lived in germany for 3 yrs and my mother already has 4sets of Mikasa and is giving me the one I've always loved! End rant!
@lawgirl12: you are going to Nassau? that is different than ours then. we are going to Half Moon Cay, which is their private island in the Bahamas. From what I have read, people seem to like that stop. As for the honeymoon registry, I had thought about doing it, but I decided against it. I didn't like the money being taken out of what people were donating to you or adding another 7% to what they were purchasing. I figured if people wanted, they could just give us money and we can use some of that on our honeymoon. And yes, some of the excursions are pricey. I think we may only end up doing one and that is snorkeling while in Grand Turk. I am going to try to convince FI to grab a cab and we can go to the beach while in St.Thomas or else to take the ferry to St. John. Plan to have a beach day while at Half Moon Cay and then possibly tour Old San Juan at our leisure. some ports aren't good to just stick around port, but from what I have read, these are some good ones to do that with. Just remember there are specials on the ship while at port, especially in the spa!
@Miss Tattoo: I thought you were thinking of Costa Rica or Bahamas. I did a cruise that included Cozumel, Costa Rica and Panama. I didn't really like the stops all that well. At Costa Rica, you would want to do an excursion because there is not much else there except a little market.
