I'm very curious to know who else met their SO online. When people ask me where I met my husband and I tell them that we met through an online dating sight, people are usually extremely curious and react as if it's a completely new concept. Which makes me curious! Did you meet your SO through an online dating site?
Yep, we met on Match.com (my cover-up story for my older relatives is that we met in the Community Band... which was one of our first dates, anyways.)
We met through OKCupid. I had also met my previous serious boyfriend online (through AOL Personals in like... 2000). My parents (mom + stepdad) also met online in 1998, back when people didn't really met online.
*meekly raises her hand*
I met my FI online, on a website that has since gone extinct so you guys probably wouldn't know it anyways. It was actually a dare from a friend that I even put up a profile - same with him (his friends dared him to do it). However, very VERY few of our friends and family know that this is how we met. We always say that he met a friend of mine at a party and she played matchmaker. :) Finally told our parents the truth a couple of years ago!
Bella
I can't say i did.
I met my SO through friends. I was meeting up with a friend who was meeting up with the friend he was with (does that make sense?) at a bar and we sat across from eachother at the table, chatted all night and the rest is history. We frequently still go to this bar and usually sit at the table and it gives us a huge smile. =]
yep! And not on a dating site. We both had mutual friends who were part of a forum and we all joined a video chat on yahoolive.... so that I could talk with my friends out of state and his friends could do poker stuff.
We "met" of there and then talked on the phone/email/im for 3 months before we decided to meet.We lived 6 hours apart
It was actually pretty nice to have soooo much time to talk before meeting and know practically every thing about each other.
Yep! We met on Lavalife! We tell the older people we met at school...which technically isn't a lie because our first date was at a pizza parlor across the street from my school. We went to schools 15 minutes away from each other :)
holy moly!! 79% wheeee!
we met through craigslist - yes, i know..... but my bf is TRULY a diamond in the ruff!
OKCupid for us! He was my highest worldwide match, but I lived in MA and he was in PA. And then, I moved to Pittsburgh, and he was my first and only date in this city - needless to say, it went well :)
I met my husband on Match.com. While it's not the most romatic story, I'm honest with people about how we met. And once we were open about, several friends and family members came clean and admitted that they too had met online and had been lying about how they met!
I have a college friend who met her husband on ICQ Random Chat (circa 1999/2000).
And after I met my guy on Match.com, my little sister went on and met her husband too.
I've never really told the whole complete story of how my hubby and I met on WB. And I still won't, haha, but what if I met his roommate online who introduced us? Though the site we met at was not a dating site. Does that count as meeting my hubby online on any level? I guess a website played a big part.... hmm very confusing.
We met on Eharmony. We've been ver open about it, although he may have told his grandparents a cover story.
We met on Match.com. It's always surprising to me to hear people's reactions when I tell them this IRL (from curiosity to incredulity), but I'm a homebody and was a middle school teacher at the time, so it's not exactly like there were dateable men around me ever. ;)
My mom also met my stepdad through JDate. I guess it runs in the family. :)
We met on Lava Life. And we still need to come clean about it to our families before the wedding!
Want to hear the craziest part? Turns out we lived three blocks apart...but likely would not have met had it not been for the Internet!
We met online, but we didn't meet through a dating website- we met playing a game on the zone.com. We were actually both in long term relationships at the time we "met" online.... we physically met & started our relationship a year later. :)
That was us too! It turned out we lived 4 blocks apart in a VERY small neighborhood...who knows though?
we used to make up a story about how we met, but after a couple years, the blind date/jdate story actually seemed better/less sketchy than the made up story! now when we tell people, no one acts surprised or like we're sketchballs--it seems pretty accepted now in our circles
match.com for us! I don't mind telling people that we met on an online dating site- most of my friends have tried at least one dating site so it's not completely crazy to them.
Oh, and we ended up living in the same neighborhood, between the same two side streets- he just lived 9 blocks north from me. And his good friend was my next door neighbor. Yet it took an internet dating site to bring us together :)
we did!! we met on yahoo personals! We don't hide how we met.. I don't think meeting online is any different than meeting someone randomly on the street or through a friend. It gave us a great opportunity. I would have never met him otherwise as he lived in another state (although only half hour from where I lived).
We met on chemistry.com ... I still wish I had a super cute meet-up story, but it's no guarantee of a good relationship. I was once introduced to a guy via my boss' 8 year old son -- adorable!! The guy was a turd. Found the boy online and he's wonderful. :)
Yep! We met on eharmony. But we promised early on we wouldn't do a commercial if the relationship worked out!
Yup we did!! We met on plentyoffish.com :) We talked and emailed for about a month before we met up in person...and it was love at first site! We both knew instantly we would end up getting married.
We technically met on myspace even though apparently we had seen each other in passing alot over the two years prior to him looking me up... We just didnt know it at first... We do somewhat fib the truth a little bit and tell ppl that he worked a medical call down at where i was in school at when i was doing instructors training at the beauty school and i met him that way 2 before we actually met.... which is somewhat the truth only I didnt meet him we just might have shot each other a look. Then we just tell people he looked me up on myspace.
match.com for us...turns out we were only 15 minutes away from each other!
My FI and I met on Myspace forever ago when we still had myspace accounts! We tell some people we met at a restaurant though. For some reason when we used to tell older people we met online they thought we were crazy/weird, most younger people we tell the truth though b/c they seem to understand more.
Online, but not a dating website :) We met on a nerdy game (but NOT world of warcraft!) we try not to tell people how we met... Hubby is even more embarassed by it than I am! lol
Ha...Funny thread! I met my fiance on Myspace.. I was new to the area and didn't know anyone, so i sent him a message..and we started talking, then we moved onto talking on the phone realizing we had so much in common we had our first date and have been inseperable ever since. I always don't know how to answer the questions... "How did you guys Meet." Even though it sounds kind of silly, It was defn. a dream come true for both of us! : )
I dated a guy I met on craigslist for 1.5 years! But I ended up meeting my husband randomly while out doing my hobby, swing dancing. My husband had used catholicmatch previous to meeting me and had dated several girls through that. We both thought we met nice people through it, but the physical chemistry was hard to come by.
I don't. Boring story, introduced by others. But we were apart by then so we communicate most through talks online. When I began missing him, I know that..
Sorry a little bit off point
Just wanna say that the format is not important.... And best wishes.
