I do! They are great, but I have to admit I've been a bit bored with it lately :(
@moderndaisy: I think they have been saving all of their exciting projects to talk about in their book, which probably doesn't leave much left for us to read about in the blog.... But i am for sure buying that book when it hits the shelf!
I love YHL! Of all the home decor blogs I used to be subscribed to, theirs is the only one I still am. All the other ones just got boring and "elitist"...YHL is always so relatable.
Oh, and I also should add, YHL is what made me decide to have a wedding! I always thought I would elope because I couldn't fathom the idea of paying so much for one day. But i loved their backyard wedding and the budget breakdown was SO helpful! Now I'm planning my own backyard wedding!
@moderndaisy: I think the kitchen reno stuff has been SUPER boring. I like to read about that stuff...but in a condensed form, all in one post, AFTER it's done. So I can watch the transformation happen quickly before my eyes, rather than reading every. last. detail. about every single little thing along the way. Though it certainly makes it more "real" to read about it as it's happening, especially because John and Sherry are so cluelss (in a good way!) half the time because they're NOT professionals, that you are just as excited/in the dark as they are wondering what the next step will be. But still, I tend to skim the long, drawn-out reno posts and just look at the pictures haha.
I love their blog but agree that lately it's a little boring. I feel like they are desperately looking for something to blog about and some of the things are just so dull and uninteresting, (like today's post about switching out pictures in their photo wall).
I am really really looking forward to seeing how their kitchen comes together and how they paint he cabinets.
I do love their blog because they make me feel confident that I can do that as well and not spend a million dollars on a gradual home makeover. I used to think that you needed to totally remake your house before you moved in. Now my mind has changed and i think the gradual, live and change as you go process is the way to go.
I agree that some of the posts can be drawn out and I do just look at the pictures, but if I were currently re-doing my kitchen, I would be soaking up every detail they had to offer! I think they include as much detail as possible for that reason, for someone who wants to do exactly what they did. Not to mention they have a minimum word requirement they have to meet for their sponsors. :) John and Sherry have my dream job of being an at-home blogger!! Now if only I had their knack for decorating.... :)
LOVE them! A lot of the kitchen posts have been a little too technical for me, so I tend to zone out a little on measurements and stuff. But I do love seeing it as it happens..overall I've been really enjoying the kitchen posts - but not as much as the burger posts ;)! Can't wait for them to paint the cabinets and install the backsplash!!
i adore them. it's funny cause i'm pretty sure DH is more addicted to them than i am. Plus i follow her on pinterest and she's amazing.
I've never seen it before but it's right up my alley, thanks for introducing me to a new source of decorating ideas!
Sherry actually made a weddingbee account one day to post on a thread about their floors. Wonder if she'll pop in?! :)
I love it, but I really miss their old house and the clean style they had back then. I also really miss little DIY projects anyone could do...that's why I really liked their site "back in the day" haha.
That being said, I love them and have actually had a dream about meeting them! hahaha.
@AnneTossy: Ooh would you mind linking to the post if you can find it?
@Kant: I feel exactly the same way. There have been several kitchen reno posts already that show very little change, but somehow they manage to practically write a book about each one and I just want to see a before and after, or at least more sped up progress. And I feel like there have been a lot of 'cheap' posts lately, like all the reader redesigns and little decor projects that probably took about 10 minutes. So nothing against them, but I have just been.. bored with it lately.
@frugalfiance: I didn't realize they were writing a book, how cool! I most likely won't buy it just because my interest level in the blog is limited to entertainment during work and I don't know what I'd do with a book, but good for them!
@Meowkers: I totally agree with you, the best thing about YHL is that they do everything on a budget and they aren't professionals, but it turns out great. It makes people like me feel like I could do it too.
@AnneTossy: Wow that's so awesome that Sherry created a weddingbee account just to answer a reader's question! They are so great. :) I think if i were to meet them I'd be so star struck i woudn't know what to say!
@kate169: I agree, my personal preference is for their old house. i was IN LOVE with it!! I do like the new house a lot too, especially karl the sofa. I'm going to get the same one when we move!! So excited. :)
i know they love west elm, but i have never shopped there (i'm a ikea and target kind of girl). What are the prices like at west elm?
I do! I read it every day...but lately it's more just looking at the pictures quickly. I don't find their posts are as interesting any more...and I don't really like the new style they're going with. I LOVED their first house. Classic, modern, simple. This one doesn't appeal to me as much.
@frugalfiance: I love Karl too but I'm not the biggest fan of some of the color choices in their new place...they are fun but I liked the classic-ness of the old house!
@AnneTossy: Thanks for sharing the link!
I do! It was one of the first blogs I really got into. They do such a good job.
I love their blog, but I agree that I've been getting a bit bored with their reno posts. Probably because I'm in an apt and have no hopes of redoing our kitchen. :(
I've never heard of this...HOW?! Can someone link to their blog for me? Or is it just younghouselove.com or something easy?
I agree that the posts have been super borning lately. I do love me some YHL, but the posts have been kind of lacking. The post today about switching out some things in the gallery wall kind of stunk. I can't wait for the book to come out so we can have some better posts
I got onto YHL but I got bored! But I found a few others in my travels.
I got onto:
Little Green Notebook
6th Street Design School
Maple Leaves & Sycamore Trees
The Lovely Cupboard
Danielle Oakley Interiors.
As you can see... Im a bit of a blogaholic. :) I wont link the pages but you can find these people on google. :)
@frugalfiance: We own Karl the sofa in a different form. We have a separate 2-seater and 3-seater in the same sivik dark gray color. I will be honest and say that they are not the most super comfy couches, but they sure do look nice.
I love YHL too, but also agree that I'm a bit bored lately as well. I'm kind of sick of hearing about the kitchen reno and them swapping out things in the picture frames. It seems like they have written a lot about that lately. I love a lot of their old posts though.
As a design blogger, I consider them DIY bloggers. Subtle difference, but they don't really seem interested in interior design. The best design is usually found when they post pictures of other people's homes.
I like checking in on them because I am impressed with their creativity when it comes to DIY projects, but I get disappointed by all the Ikea. Boring is a good word for their aesthetic. I have Ikea myself...but it's mixed in with other pieces.
If you're interested, here are the design bloggers I follow. There are plenty of professional designers on this list.
*Just realized my list was a bit overwhelming, so I'm editing it down. These are some of my favorites...and many of these people do fantastic giveaways.*

Oh, and if you miss the aesthetic of the old YHL, here are the folks above who have that clean, classic, yet modern style:
http://www.inthefunlane.com/ (she actually turned painting furniture into a business!)
http://brynalexandra.blogspot.com/ (aspiring designer, limited budgets, lots of DIY!)
http://www.centsationalgirl.com/ (loads of DIY)
And if you want to push your boundaries a little bit, but still like budget-conscious decorating, check out http://www.brooklynlimestone.com/ . Stephanie is amazing!!!
http://www.copycatchic.com/ finds less expensive alternatives to high end items.
Me!! I'm actually moving into their neighborhood in a couple of weeks and I'll have no idea what to do if I run into them!
They are total celebs to me!
I do! I love love love them! They have such great ideas/projects and they seems like nice people too. I haven't been bored with them : )
@mink: I went to check out the blogs you suggested for those who liked the old YHL...too bad they host all their photos on Flickr...blocked at my job! That is one reason I still read YHL daily...I love that they don't host on flickr or photobucket!

YoungHouseLove is my all-time favorite home decorating blog. Any other fans out there? I'm curious to see if any bees have gotten inspiration from John & Sherry and tried out any of their ideas. I can't say I've tried any yet, but I have a file saved on my desktop of all the things I want to try once we buy a home. Oh, and YHL is how i was introduced to both Etsy and Pinterest, and I'm obsessed with both! :)
Can't wait to hear from you guys!
xoxo
