None of the above. They *only* get a tip if they go above and beyond the call of duty and do an outstanding job. And only after the wedding is over (not at the reception when you are still on cloud nine and not able to analyze objectively). You do not tip anyone if they give you mediocre or bad service. A vendor can be amazing during the planning process and a complete disaster on the day of, and vice versa, which is why you don't tip anyone before you see the service in action.
Are you having servers at your reception? A couple of venues I looked at spelled out in their contracts that gratuity was *not* included. My venue actually spells out that gratuity *is* included and not to be given to the servers/ coat check.
I tipped my DJ. I didn't tip the photographer though because he was self-employed. Servers were also included in my reception fee. I gave the officiant & altar servers a check as well.
I agree with Ember78 for the most part, a tip is only given if they do an outstanding job and go above and beyond. That being said, I did tip my hairstylist/makeup artist.
The servers tip is included in the venue price. I'm mostly wondering about the self employed photog and the officiant. The officiant does this on her own and we are paying her.
If you feel they did a great job (after the wedding is over), then feel free to tip them. Despite what everyone will tell you, it doesn't matter if they own their own business or not. If you aren't comfortable giving them money, give them a nice inexpensive gift.
Just something else to think about, depending on how big your wedding is, your vendors may be bringing assistants with them who are usually working for free/experience. In this case, most of the time, the tip you give to the self-employed vendor gets passed directly from them to their assistant.

I really should know this at this point in my life. Obviously, hairstylist, make-up artist, servers(included) but what about the self- employed photographer and officiant? I don't need to tip the i-pod so is there anyone I'm forgetting?
Thanks Bees!
