i do! well, at least i WANT to…
a friend’s aunt had a barn that her cousin got married in, but they are concerned about liability so they don’t want to let us use it. correct me if i’m wrong, but isn’t it common to get an insurance policy for the event that would protect the property owner?
has anyone else been married at a barn? am i crazy? does anyone have pictures? we live in west michigan and i’m curious if there are any other local bees that had a wedding at a barn. and if so, where?

Ok so not a rag on your wedding (because I think barns can be terribly country chic/tres adorable) but it reminded me of Angela’s demands of Andy on “The Office” about how she wanted to be married in a barn exactly like Dwight’s.
I digress… the real reason I’m posting is because YES I do know of plenty of barn weddings… http://www.thewindmillaz.com + Pic:

haven’t seen the episode, but i do love that show!
the weird thing is that that my FI and I are totally not country people! in fact, i grew up in the country and intentionally moved to the city! i just like the idea of a casual outdoor barn wedding with horseshoes and a pig roast. here are a couple pics i found to be very adorable.
p.s. i don’t even like country music 🙂

My parents own a several thousand acre farm and we actually thought about getting married in one of the barns but we were going to have to use all generators, ect! So we decided to get married in an old shuch my family owns that is half falling in but beautiful built in 1851 and have the reception under the pecan trees at my parents house!

A girl I work with just got married in a barn over the summer. I’ve seen pictures of it..amazing. It wasn’t someones personal barn, it was an acutal venue here in MA. They took the most beautiful pictures there.
I would just have them call their homeowners insurance and see if you do need additional insurance? I don’t know how all that works because you don’t get an insurance policy if you are having a big holiday party or anything like that. Maybe its different if you are serving alcohol. I’m sure it will be a quick phone call for them to get the answer.

I wanted a Vermont barn wedding SOOO BAD. But my parents (who are helping plan and pay) didn’t think it would be feasible with a hora, driving distance, etc. You should go for it if it’s what you want. It’s my “other wedding” that I mentally plan alongside my black tie city shindig.

I wouldn’t want to pressure them into letting you use it. I think you can get event insurance, but if they’re not comfortable with that, there’s really nothing you can do. I do think barn weddings are lovely, though. I am getting married in a field; I WISH there were a barn around to make the reception easier haha! There is a barn venue not far from us that I might check out for the reception. Also, some neighbors/friends got married in their own barn on their farm that they inherited from the groom’s grandfather. It was gorgeous; they had all white lights strung up like in your picture. And the sentiment was really nice, too. But, yeah, if I were you, I’d look into actual venues that are barns. Good luck!

I personally love barn weddings….if there were a lot of barns in FL, you better believe that I would have had that as our venue! I hope it works out for you…I’m really not familiar with insurance related issues! 🙂 Sorry!

I’ve always loved barn weddings! In my opinion, they’re more beautiful, creative, warm, personal than any hotel wedding. This is a barn we were considering:

getting married in a barn is so rustic and romantic, there are tons of ways to make it work for you, Martha Stewart had a special where the couple got married in a barn and it was so pretty, Good luck with your plans hope it works out for you!
