I'm having a peony bouquet and the florist quoted it at $200 for my May wedding. This could be high due to my location.
I am in total lust, too! But I don't think I have a chance in hell of getting them, because of cost as well as our season...
@Nati-Lyte: Wow, is that for a full bouquet of peonies or are there other flowers too?
I LOVE the all peony bouquets, but for me in early april they aren't the easiest or cheapest for me to get :( I have been told anywhere from $4 a stem to $8 a stem. So I will probably be going with garden roses that can look very similar.
We paid $45/bunch of peonies, and my cousin put them together with ranunculus. They were GORGEOUS. I loved the flower combination, even if the colors might be a bit bright for some brides (of course I loved them).
I read this post and it made me smile thinking of a event that my family decorated a hall - that we got the peonies for free...from the backyard! The interesting thing is that we planned to do it that way, and have been amused for years afterward that it was the only year that the peonies bloomed exactly at that time! (It happened to be on my dad's birthday, but the celebration was about something else!) If you can get the flowers for free from a friend they are really lovely!
@Missbliss: this happened to a friend of mine too! Not for a wedding, just a party, but still. So beautiful! I think (NOT sure) peonies are unpredictable, and only bloom once, which makes them $$$.
@OttawaBride2011: Thanks! I loved them. :) But the combination of a few peonies filled out with ranunculus wasn't too expensive. Just a thought. Have fun!
My bouquet was all peonies in June and I paid $225. Totally worth it though!
Interestingly, at least one of the pictures you posted isn't a bouquet of peonies...it's a bouquet of cabbage roses! They look pretty much identical to peonies, have a different bloom season, and I think they're cheaper as well. I'll be having cabbage roses in my bouquet, along with ranunculus, lilacs, and other flowers (total cost around $75). My florist and I both prefer them to peonies, actually!

Those are cabbage roses. :)
@catholicbride: Your bouquet is amazing and exactly what I am looking for!! Thanks for posting :)
@Minutiae: Wow, they really do look a lot alike! Thanks for the info. I am meeting with a florist on Saturday, I'll definitely ask about cabbage roses!
I had a few in bouquets. Most of the large fluffy flowers are 5 dollars a piece, as quoted by my florist. Peonies, cabbage roses, big and fluffy = $$. Mine ended up being a mix w/ roses, hypercinum, lisianthus & green buds. Don't mind that some of them were turning brown, it was over 90 degrees outside & they were going quickly!

@Minutiae: Do you have a picture of your inspiration bouquet? It sounds beautiful and I am using purple too so lilacs would be amazing.
@Ella1978: I love your bouquet!! I can't decide if I want all white, or a colorful bouquet.
I had a small bouquet of peonies and it was $75, in season and local flowers. My centerpieces were a mix of peonies and roses, and they were also 75 each.
@ribbons: Wow, I loved your bouquet, I'm pleasantly surprised that it was $75!! Peonies should be in season and local for me too, hopefully I can get a good deal like you did :) Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for the bouts?
@OttawaBride2011: I think they were 15. I got married in a smaller town though so my prices may be skewed!
@OttawaBride2011: Thank you! I had a different scheme early on and my bouquet was COLORFUL. When we switched, I decided I wanted simple, clean & white with JUST a hint of green. My maids had white and green bouquets. Not quite as green as I wanted them, but they were pretty:

My bouquet of pretty much all peonies was $150 in June in the greater NYC area. Here is a pic...
@Ella1978: Oh I love your bridesmaid bouquets too!!!! So pretty. Our color scheme is basically purple, orange, and lime green, but really it's just all sorts of colorful, since I'm thinking of maybe having pink thrown in there too, haha. I can't decide what to do for bridesmaid bouquets either. I'm going to the florist on Saturday, hopefully she can help me out :)
@OttawaBride2011 Thank you! I was lucky to find an amazing florist who wasnt outrageously expensive. If you want any more pics let me know!
I want them so bad! I'm going to at least have it for my bouquet. MARK MY WORDS! HA. Here's what I want, it's not strictly Peonies, but it's a gorgeous combo.
peonies, ranunculus, hydrangeas, calla lilies, tulips, and sweet pea.
My florist quoted $150 for a LARGE bouquet of solely white peonies in October.
@shaydenise: That seems reasonable to me. Or at least, that is the kind of budget I am going for, for just my bouquet. Thanks!
Peonies and a few garden roses--I loved it beyond belief. This was in the greater NYC area--$85.
Oh, married in July...out of season for peonies.
I had peonies and they were peak season in our area. I paid $65 for my bouquet.
@OttawaBride2011: Peonies are generally pretty expensive, but you should be able to get them in May. Another popular alternative is the garden rose - there are many that look very similar to peonies... that's what I'm using :)

Subject line says it all :) Also might be helpful to mention if they were in season for your wedding or not!
