My FI plays World of Warcraft, League of Legends, and some new Star Wars game. I think there's a few more games that he plays, but I can't keep track of them. Sometimes it's a little embarrassing to admit that because I think there's a big ol' stereotype about guys who play World of Warcraft and whatnot (and trust me, some of his game friends are the epitome of that stereotype) but my FI isn't quite like that. I don't play any of the games with him, but I've tried them in the past. They're just really annoying and confusing to me, but I think it's good that he keeps gaming separate from me. Haha.
Do you have a gamer SO? What games does he/she play? Do you play games with them? How do you deal if the gaming ever gets out of control? Tell me about it!
DH and I like to play Wii games together, like Lego Harry Potter, Pirates of the Carribean, Mario, Donkey Kong etc...my friend makes fun of me saying I'm a nerd but DH and I have no friends where we live so all we do is play Wii. We joke that we are "hardcore gamers", but in reality its just something fun to do together that doesn't cost money :) I'm kinda glad DH is not a gamer on his own and that I enjoy it too...but we only play a little each day, not something crazy like 8 hours a day!!
I do! Currently his obsession is Star Wars. My FI also isn't the typical stereotype .. he doesn't look or act like a 'gamer.' It was strange for me to get use to at first, but I see it this way ... at least I know where he is, and he could be doing a lot worse! So video games I'm a-okay with!
@Bao: Aw. I really wanted a Wii for Christmas so that we could play some games together, but we're going to wait for the Wii U (whatever the eff that is) to come out. His parents have a Wii and we used to play Mario Kart and Wii Sports together alllll the time and I really miss it.
@jennaanne: Exactly! He's sitting right across the room from me at this moment clicking away on his Star Wars game. At least he's not out drinking or something like that!
@CarolinaCola: I think the Wii U is a handheld thing, but I'm not sure. You should get a Wii they are so much fun :)
Mine is. That's what he is doing right now. I have no idea what he plays, but it is online like WOW, but not WOW. Battlefield? Who knows. I'm painting and he is up there playing. At least he games long enough for me to do what I want around the house....if he doesn't want me painting/reorganizing/rearranging...then come down and stop me!!! :)
Mine is! He is usually obsessed with Call of Duty, but now he has been playing lots of Skyrim (which I would prefer that he plays, since now my living room does not sound like a war zone)
@nutMeg13: Like 6 months ago, my FI bought a PS3 just so he could play Call of Duty, and OMG that shit was loud. It drove me absolutely insane. But he ended up having to sell it like a month and a half later because he switched shifts at work and was never able to play at the same time as his friends. Honestly, I wasn't that sad to see it go.
Mr. LK and teen LK both enjoy WOW and all of the CODs. As a family, we enjoy Wii sports, outdoor adventure, and Mario Kart. We're not heavy gamers by any stretch of the imagination, but 2-3 hours a week is a nice way to pass the time.
FI is a hardcore gamer, and I've finally come to accept it. When we first moved in together, it was a big problem, because he had regular gaming nights with his gaming friends three nights a week. At first, I thought it would be no big deal, but I wouldn't see FI for hours at a time, and he would be playing well into the night. Some of those friends are the stereotypical gamers that we all think of when we think of gamers, and needless to say, other than FI, none of them had a girlfriend at the time, and couldn't understand why I would be upset.
Now, FI tends to go through stages of gaming - most nights, he spends with me, and I'm the one who encourages him to go up and play every now and then. I've come to accept that FI is a gamer, and as long as his first priority is me, and not the games, I'm ok with that - there are far worse things that he could be doing with his time!
He plays NBA2K12, Madden 12, COD, & Gears of War. I like to watch occasionally, but I lack the coordination to play myself, lol. I'd rather read while he plays. :)
Right now legend of zelda skyward sword. He also plays COD, Gears, and a ton of others. I can't get into playing, I've tried...o well.
Yes, but he is not the only one who loves gaming. We both do! I used to play Magic, We both played WoW, tried RIFT, love League of Legends (Im an awesome Sona) and are now playing Star Wars (old republic). I'll add these are usually a one at a time thing i.e. we ONLY play SWTOR right now. He loves his bioware games too, like Mass Effect and again with Dragon Age series...so I would classify as hardcore. When we lived back in MT we also were frequents at a comic book store, and had a group of friends who liked games just as much as us, and we had weekly Roleplaying groups aswell. Now, I am not afraid to spill the beans on this at all, because we both are generally active, both [had] jobs (since moving Im unemployed:(), took care of and exercised our pets, and often went out to do other things. Two people out of gaming "group" had a Masters degree (one engineering, one in psych), one is now attending grad school, has traveled the world, and loves mountain climbing, one is attending law school, and one is a car salesman. My point is TOTALLY DIFFERENT kinds of NORMAL people love to have fun and play some games every now and then, but I will admit, FI is my dream guy, and is tall, lanky, a little pale, and looks uuuber cute with glasses. /swoon.
@Shosha1: We had that problem when we first moved in together as well. Seriously, one day it was like 8 hours straight of gaming. It's not that bad anymore, but every once in a while we still have to have a come to Jesus meeting and he'll check his gaming so I don't feel so ignored. And I know exactly what you mean about girlfriend-less gamer friends who don't understand. There are some nights when I want him to come to bed or something and he'll tell me that his friends want him to play another round (or whatever it's called) and he'll stay on the computer for like another hour. And if he tried to tell his friends no, they'd get mad. I don't ever want to have to tell him to get off the computer, I just like to gently remind him that I'm his future wife, and I know where he sleeps ;)
Mine is! He is a PS3 man. He plays lots of shooters such as Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Uncharted, etc. He will call me into the room as if there's some emergency and then show me a new "trophy" he earned on his game. He does it to aggravate me. But honestly, if this is what makes him happy I don't mind - it gives me time to read a book in peace!
FI and I are both gamers. Together, we've got a Wii, a PS3, an Xbox 360, and assorted older consoles!
@clairykoo: Skyward Sword is what we're both currently obsessed with. It's really good!
@hismm: I didn't mean to insinuate that gamers aren't normal people at all. I was just saying that I think a lot of people who don't know anyone who is a gamer (particularly PC gamers) think of World of Warcraft, etc and immediately imagine this:

Ya know?
Oh no I totally didn't think that! Haha, I was agreeing with you that it isn't always what others may think it out to be. There's tons of different people in every walk of life. Like, you would never look at me/FI/our friend and think "yup...basement dweller" LOL
@hismm: Okay, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't offending! :)
Oh yes, we have every console and FI's custom computer. He is also playing the new Star Wars game. He stays up until like 2am each night playing even though he has to get up at 5:30/6:00. Drives me nuts, but it does give me time to read or play some games that I like.
Mine plays, warcraft, and some other computer games I dont remember the names of, and then he has a PS3 which he plays numerous games on as well....how do I deal with the crazy game playing....i just let him play most of the time or I bargin for x number of games in a day or until he wins lol also he tries to find games that I would like to play too, there is one we finished together that had the x men or something and we play little big planet...I have a wii so I play more mario games but my wii is currently missing. Also we both have DS's that we love to take on trips lol so maybe we are both gamers but he much more so than I
for example he is in playing starcraft as we speak....but will come out and play LBP2 with me later as we just got it today :)
@CarolinaCola: Mines never played WOW, but he's on the Star Wars game now and was playing DC heros or something like that before that. He did get me to play one game before like 2 years ago but that was it for me. He's a "closet gamer" though exactly cause of that stereo type and doesnt like to tell most people. On the outside, he's a fit 6'3 outdoorsy beer drinking guy's guy.
.. and he's bugging me at this very second for the laptop so he can play again. *sigh*
Fi loves the COD games. But He plays when I do my WB time so it works out :) We have a PS3 Xbox360 and a Wii. I dont know why we need 3 systems...
@MrsAu: AHHHH! LBP is my favorite game! I got the 2nd one for my birthday this year. FI has since gotten me 2 sackboys! It's bad. That is the greatest game ever. :)
We are both gamers :) My vice is WoW, but he's more of an XBox kinda guy. He's actually playing Battlefield III right now!
@MrsAu: thats adorable!
Mine is! He plays Battlefield 3, COD black ops, Uncharted and Heavy rain
I dont care at all!
ME, ME, ME! PICK ME! My DH is a GAMER. lol
He mostly plays Eve online, League of Legends, and Star Wars the Old Republic
Mine is---he's playing that new star wars game as I write this. He also has played WOW and others that escape me. We should petition for a new board---Gamer Widows! ;-p
@cz1789: does your SO love the new star wars game? DH paid like $150 to get it early and some collector stuff! LOL. He is addicted for sure
FI plays FFXI and Legend of Zelda. I will play FFXI with him once in awhile.
@bestbuddies: I know my FI is lovin' that Star Wars game, for sure. We went to his friend's birthday party on the 23rd and the friend showed him the game and theeee next day he bought it and has been playing it nonstop. I swear I hear the word "lightsaber" like 2934 times a day now!
FI plays, well, everything. He quit world of war craft, and is currently beating skyrim and waiting to get guilde wars 2. I might also mention he is a software engineer, and the president of his company actually took the week off to stay home and play the new star wars MMO.
lol.
Seriously, I feel like my SO plays games all the time. At first it was really annoying, because I would have whole conversations with him and he wouldn't even know I was talking. I justify him being able to play video games all the time because he lives more than 2 hours away from all of his best friends, and this is their way of hanging out together when they can't see each other, so I get it.
I decided instead of trying to put a stop to it, I would make it a fun thing for us to do together. I'm play Star Wars online with him, and he's so proud of me, and can't stop telling his friends about how awesome I am. : )
@NerdLove11: I do this sometimes too and my FI loves to brag about me playing his games (even though I hardly get very far, still a level 5 character on WOW and level 3 on skyrim...) but I do go beat cutsie little RPGs like mario and chrono trigger. I embraced his nerdiness, hense my username :-P
@daniellealys Yep; he's been playing it for days and started as soon as it came out. Apparently it's like WOW but is Star Wars themed? That's about all I know about it :)
YES! Before we met when he told me he played WoW I was like 'Oh no...' but I got used to it. He hasn't played WoW in a while, but he plays one called Rift? And xbox stuff. I have a Wii and a PS2 (because I'm old school I guess) that I almost never use aside from streaming Netflix; when he saw all my Wii games (from my late husband) he was SO excited LOL. I don't really get into any of them, except The Sims, which I have played on and off since the beginning. I got him into it too, so now we can compare houses and such...but he plays way more than me because I'm addicted to Weddingbee and Pinterest, haha!!
And yes, it does cause problems from time to time. Like when he's laid off from work and sits on the computer ALL day and I get home from work to a sink full of dirty dishes, a dog that needs to be walked, something burned to my stove and dinner to be made. Or the fact that my laptop cord is broken and I won't have a new one until next week...so getting on his computer takes a small miracle!! Oh boys and their toys...
My FI works for League of Legends! He's a UX designer.
Needless to say, he has been playing a lot of games lately. He just got Battlefield for xmas from my mom. I am currently watching him play it. Haha.
