We haven’t left yet but we’re going to NZ in November! Are you going to the South Island at all? Everyone recommended we go to Nelson, Golden Bay, and Queenstown, so that’s where we’re headed. I’ve heard that the glow worm caves near Wanaka are really cool though!!

I didn’t honeymoon in NZ but I live there 😛
@MsVoyageur: I think you mean the glow worm caves at Waitomo! Wanaka is in the South Island 🙂
OP, I havent been to Wanaka yet but my uncle lived there for awhile and loved it. It is great for adventure sports. You might want to go to Queenstown while you’re down there too.

We will be going to NZ for our honeymoon next June. Can’t wait. A guy I work with has actually been 13 times so he drew us a map of where we should go. We are hiring a campervan and driving around the South Island. Christchurch to Queenstown and back. Can’t Wait!!!

Thanks for the replies ladies! We are going for ten days – 15th – 25th April.
My Fh has not pencilled, but INKED in some time at Omarrama (sp?) to go gliding. He’s a mad keen glider pilot and apparently NZ has some of the best ridge soaring in the world. Ladies who are going to South Island – I haven’t been gliding there yet, but have been up a LOT and I definately reccomend it!
Sounds like I’m putting Queenstown on the list as well! 🙂 Keep the suggestions coming ladies! Loving it!

Here are a few things we are planning:
Just out of Christchurch is the Orana Wildlife Park which has great reviews and a chance to meet a Cheetah and go into the Lion Exibit during feeding (in a cage). http://www.oranawildlifepark.co.nz/ This is on my must do list. (Not particularly near where you’re going but still…)
Franz Josef glacier. Tons of walks to do.
Queenstown is really popular for thrill seekers (which I’m not). We are doing a horse ride (Dart Stables) around there. It’s a LOTR tour as well so double yay! The Skyline Restuarant seems interesting. Gondala ride to the top! 😛
Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo have both been recommended to us.
Milford Sound cruise. Pretty!

Well we are thinking now either NZ or Japan. Two very different places. Haven’t been overseas before and I get a bit sick on planes so kinda leaning towards NZ. Would love to hit the south island, hire a car and just go 🙂

@Milo: I live in Japan, and am from New Zealand, so feel free to PM me if you need any advice.
OP – I am from Christchurch, which is in the South Island. Wanaka is really pretty. If you do go there, make sure you spend some time in Queenstown as well. If you have the chance, visit the top of the South as well.

You’ll love New Zealand! I traveled around the country a few years ago, and lived there for 3 months last year.
One of the coolest things I did there was the Doubtful Sound Cruise. You HAVE to go to Fiordland, whether it’s Doubtful or Milford Sound. Another cool area is the Catlins, but it’s not easy to get to. Oamaru’s a cool town that’s known for penguin viewing, plus the Moeraki Boulders are nearby, which are cool. Glowworm Caves are a must see, and fortunately you can see them in several places throughout the country. Franz Josef Glacier’s beautiful as well.
