Hi bees!!
I recently just paid off my grad school student loans(20k)! By myself! In under two years!! wohooo!!
how many of you bees have student loans too?
WOW! Congrats! I still have student loans (~38 K) left.
Yay for paying off your loans! I'll be getting my bills in November! I'm dreading it! I'll have about $20k too.
That's so awesome...good for you! I'm also planning to pay off a similar amount in the next 18 months. *fingers crossed*
Thankfully I don't have any! I used the GI Bill to get my B.S. and will it it for a Masters as well.
Me!! I'm still an undergrad and when I graduate (next Spring) I'll have racked up about 30k. I chose to go out of state for half my education, and even though my parents paid my tuition, I had to foot all the living expenses.
But I'm looking to go to grad school (in state!) for my phd so then i get PAID to go to school, haha.
CONGRATS on paying off your debt so soon!!
I have just about $8k left.....it's taken so long to get to this point!
still in school...about 10K in loans so far. UGH! Congrats on paying yours off!!! My FI is 38 and still has about 8K in loans.
I have $0 school loans left! And $0 credit card debt!
But the FI has $50K in school loans and makes up for my $0 :(
Congratulations! That is a major accomplishment!
I have about $7K left...soon, soon it shall be over...
Umm, yep. Over $40k which is more than I make in a year. I'm not even paying off all the interest I'm accruing at this point - just can't afford it!
At least I qualify under the public service loan forgiveness plan to have the balance wiped away as long as I work full time and continue to pay on them for 10 years.
I have about $40k in student loans. We're getting a mortgage to pay off all our student loans though, so then instead of the $60k in student debt we have, we'll have $130k of just a mortgage. Only one major bill to pay a month will be sweet though!
That is awesome!!!! I have students loans, but haven't started paying them off yet because I'm still going! GREAT, can't wait! ;)
I have $70K!!!! AUGH, Master's from an Ivy League costs the BIG BUCKS. I just finished though and am in my grace period right now. I will have to start paying them back in July and I know I will be paying them off for the rest of my lifffffffe. Congrats to everyone who is almost done paying theirs off.. I hope that one day that will be me! :)
I have 36k and my parents have another 30k plus loan. I've paid off 16k already (and I'm currently in grad school).
congrats! i still am wracking them up unfortunately. i still have to pay to finish my teaching certificate. not looking forward to paying all of the loans off.... i have about 30K :(
Me! I have about $25,000 right now, but may have to take some out for grad school as well. Blah.
Way to go! When I graduated from college (B.S. degree) I only owed $8,000 and I have $1,700 left!! Yeah! My first year and a half was covered by scholarships and grants and the last year I paid cash due to tips from work at Sonic---worked my tail off let me tell ya! I'm so glad I didn't have an enourmous bill, but I can totally understand how it racks up so fast if you go to really expensive school.
I wish - but congrats!
I have ~80K (undergrad, masters and now PhD) luckily I am no longer incurring anymore debt - I am just deferring the payments until I am done school 2012. But I am really not looking forward to paying it off for the rest of my life!
Can I win the lottery please!
I actually started paying my student loan off during grad school, although I didn't have to untiil 6 months post graduation. But I did so becuase I had subsidized loans (loans that you don't have to pay interest on while you were in school) so whatever payments (no matter how little!!) I was paying, directly went to the principle since there was no interest to be paid off. That really helped me out.
One of my dear friends got married in September and she and her husband got baout 40k in cash from their wedding and that's how she paid off her loan. Sigh!
haha all you girls are making me a little depressed! I have about 80K. sigh. :)
I'm with you @corgitales... What big numbers we have!
@aug8bride.... although we would love to use all of our wedding cash on a deposit for a house, i think it would be a better idea to use toward my loans... I don't think I'll ever get 40k (Yikes!) but I do have a big italian family ;)
@krissy- haha me either on the 40k! We actually did go ahead and buy a home (even though we have a combined 120K in student loan debt) because the debt is not going anywhere and the housing market is! I haven't even thought about what we'll do with money we get from the wedding, but I'd be surprised if we got much more than maybe 5K tops.
I probably have the most of anyone here (undergrad, grad school, med school)... but I've paid half of them off (or I should say the government has). I've found every debt forgiveness program I could find to help off-set the debt.
If you are a teacher, nurse, PA, or a physician you can work in an underserved area and get debt forgiveness. If you are a physician or other researcher there are other government debt forgiveness programs. I recommend using every single resource available to you!
It's like a huge weight off my shoulders!
Congrats! I currently have about $10,700. This is after FI helped me pay off about $65k. He got a biiiig hug and kiss after that :)
Congrats! I have loans from undergrad and grad school... so I can't admit the amount in writing. It's too scary for me. Let's just I have a mortgage for a house I cannot live in. I consolidated all but one loan... it's the very first one I took in my freshman year of college and I will have that one paid off in the next year. On the rest, well, I'm hoping I will end up qualifying for the public forgiveness option.
@professor .. i'm hoping for the public forgiveness option too... I'm currently working for a 501(c)(3) organization, but you have to be employed for 10 years and then the remainder is forgiven... I'm not sure if I can see myself here for 10 years!
I'll have $100k when I'm done with law school in 2011. That's what a private undergrad and law school will do. Sigh. I've been thinking about trying to find a government job, so that my federal loans will be forgiven in 10 years, but I have private loans from undergrad, so I'll still have to make sure I make enough to pay those off too. I just keep telling myself that it'll all be worth it in the end, but I'm starting to doubt that. haha.
@Krissy - you just have to work in a 501(c)(3) or for the government for 10 years, not necessarily at the same place.
I'm going that route but it sucks being stuck working full-time for 10 years. I'd like to take some time off to have kids (or at least drop down to part-time) but then I'm extending the time until that loan goes away!
I owe $27K and FI owes $11K. We're both in school presently (and paying cash) so our loans are in deferment. I paid off over $10K so far and his grandmother paid off all his private loans so he'll be paying her $100/month until she dies.
That is awesome! Congrats! How great do you feel right now??
I only have about $5K left from my original $20K, and my husband has about $8K left from his original $20K....so we're slowly getting there! Soon enough!
Congrats!! That must feel SO good!
I don't have any debt from undergrad which is awesome...but my grad school debt is going to be about $52k
Not looking forward to paying that off.
FI and I both graduated in May of last year, I had 10K and he had 18K, right now I am at 3K and he's at 17K, which I think is pretty good considering we bought a house!!! My tax return will finish off my debt, and then we'll start paying on FI's, we're aiming for Christmas/January to have it all gone :)
I HAD a student loan for about $40k (at a private university. I paid a total of $130,000 for a BFA. In MUSIC. What was I thinking???) which I paid off in about 4 yrs. SOOOOOO happy to be out from under that rock!
Yay! Congrats! I have about $600 left so I'm almost there... :)
I hardly had any undergrad debt, but 4 years of professional school at about $40K/ year adds up fast...
I have $0 and am so happy my parents were able to pay cash for my education...was freaking out about my SO's current $25k but I guess that's nothing compared to $100k!
