I’m very interested in what the stats are on this years flu. It seems like the craziest one in a decade or so! I’ve been lucky enough to miss it thus far and I didn’t get the flu shot.
I haven’t had the flu in 14 years. I have a feeling the one year I gt the flu shot will be the year I get the flu.
So tell me…did you get the flu this season and did you get a flu shot?
(btw…anyone catch the BBC show Survivors on Netflix or when it aired in 2010? I just watched it and can’t stop thinking about it while everyone drops like flies with the flu…)

I don’t get the flu shot. I rarely get that sick, and if I do, I deal with it. The flu shot is sort of a scam, really, because you’re going to have to get one every. single. year regardless, and you still might get a different strain of the flu.
What was Survivors about?

I’ve never had a flu shot and never had the flu (that I can remember…so at least 18 years) It’s also pretty rare..but occasionally I will get only a sore throat (nothing else along with it) but that’s about it.
So I don’t see any reason to get one.

No shot, no flu. But I might be getting a little paranoid with the news lately, and I’m considering making a stop today or tomorrow to get the shot. Especially with my wedding coming up in a month!

I am a bit sheepish to admit I haven’t gotten a flu shot. But I’m not sure that I ever have, that I can remember, unless it was when I was very young. The media is making me a bit nervous about it all, but I’m trying not to let them get in my head too much. 😉

@peachacid: A flu epidemic goes around and kills everyone in the world within 48 hours or so. But there are a few people that are “immune”. And it’s how they survive and try to find a vaccine before another strain comes around and kills them all.
I’m super bummed because they cancelled it after the second season and I was absolutely obsessed! I’ve been sining all of the online petitions even though it’s been off the air since 2010…haha!
Catch it on Netflix while you still can. I think it’s a limited release.

I didn’t get the flu shot and I got the flu for the first time in my life. I will be getting a shot from now on. Our whole family (me, fi & his two kids) got sick. His son brought it home from school (missed the last day of school before Christmas break) and we all got sick and then maybe even reinfected each other. Now FI & I and his 4 year old all have a lingering cough. I’ve missed more work in the last two weeks than in my entire career. YUCK!

I get the flu shot every year for 3 reasons:
1. I’m considered “high risk” because I have asthma and if I get sick I’m bedridden for days!
2. My FBIL got a heart transplant 5 years ago and is immune-compromised. His parents ask that we all get the flu shot.
3. I’m a teacher and aroud sick and dirty teenagers all day.
But, I haven’t gotten the flu yet!

I didn’t get the flu shot, I’ve never gotten it. I’m not high risk and I’m generally a very healthy person. I may get a cold once/year, but that’s it.
Of course I got the flu this year. It was misery for about a week, and then another week just to get my energy back…at which point I came down with a head cold…which wouldn’t be such a big deal, but with my overworked immune system, I’ve now been sick for a week. Luckily I haven’t gotten that stomach bug that’s going around…yet. Lord help me if I’m cursed with the tri-fecta this season.
I am planning to get the flu shot from now on.

I get the flu shot each and every year cause if I dont I will be sick like 20 times during the cold and flu season!!! I was sick over the holidays but I dont think it was the flu it was just a minor cold..so I was lucky

My job requires me to get the shot every year. The doctors, despite news reports, tell us that this years shot isn’t too effective. The ER is full of people every night, plus we’ve had lots of staff call in sick with the flu, despite having a flu shot.
I’m lucky *knocks on wood*. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been sick (minus wasty pants drunk type sick). Let’s hope the flu is kind to me again this year.

I have to because I’m a nurse and would anyway. Also by the nature of a vaccine you CAN’T catch the flu you were vaccinated against, you may in fact get a different strain because the flu mutates fast but the flu shot cannot give you the flu.

Ugh, I was taking a lot of vitamin C and doing a lot of hand washing hoping to avoid getting sick. (I didn’t bother with the shot, because whenever I get it, I get sick anyway.)
It was working, and I managed not to get sick despite being around a lot of sick people around Christmas. But then DH caught it and gave it to me. I’m pretty much over it by now though, finally.

@missrobots: We got the stomach bug, too. What a way to start the year! Hope you don’t get it!

- Wedding: August 2013 - Brookfield Zoo
My company just sent out a message this morning about the flu! Basically some facts about it and how to avoid it but.. I didn’t realize people were dying from it this year!!
I haven’t gotten the flu shot and won’t be getting it. I’ve always heard it’s really intended for the very young or the very old, not healthy-ish people in my age bracket, which is why I haven’t been getting it although my company offers it for free each year.
