Are you doing anything special to care for it to push it past ur usual length?

I've started using a heat protection and a shampoo meant for color treated, highlighted, or damaged hair. That's about it. I'm at the length now that I usually cut it off to my chin..Resisting the urge!

Me! My hair is about an inch above shoulder length right now. I have 8 months to grow it as long as I can so I have options. Seems like a lot of time but if it grows 1/2 inch a month, that's only 4 more inches.

So I'm doing everything I can think of to help it along. I'm taking hair vitamins and omega-3's and trying to drink more water. I've also started using cleansing conditioner instead of shampoo (L'Oreal Evercreme is the bomb). I have stopped blow drying it, and I never flat iron or color it. When it's wet, I use a comb instead of a brush to detangle it. All these things may not make it grow faster, but they should reduce breakage and split ends so it's healthier and so I don't need trims.

Yes! I have gone "No Poo" in order to stop breakage and keep my hair healthy. Although I sometimes break and use regular shampoo.

    I did!

A friend told me about Maxi-Hair -  it's basically packed full of B vitamins.  I was never good about taking it - and it made me pee bright yellow!

I am, i try not to blow dry it or straighten it for the most part. I probably need a tiny trim, it is pretty healthy, but i want to take care of that before my hair trial

Me, even though I just put it through the ringer to lighten the colour. I'll start babying it again once I get the colour right (not that I haven't been taking care of it). I generally try to shampoo every 2-3 days and as a result only heat style every 2-3 days. I condition it with a conditioning masque at least once a week. I already take a regular multi vitamin, a flaxseed oil pill (omega 3) and a calcium chew daily but I've hear prenatals are great for hair and nails. Even though you're growing it make sure you get trims to reduce split ends and breakage.

Mine was long to begin with and I'm actually debating cutting it! It's half way down my back and I'm wondering if it would actually be better if I cut it so there is less/its not too heavy. My hair is also extremely thick.

I am growing my hair out. Its almost at the butt region. :) I have thin hair so the longer I grow it out the more hair the stylist will have to work with.

    Im conditioning it.

ANd taking prenatal vitamins. No Im not pregnant nor trying to become prengnant, but I have heard that it is GREAT for nails and hair. Infact my nails havent split since Ive started taking the prenatal vitamins!

@TequilaSunrise:  I have been growing mine out since he proposed last February and the only special thing I've done to speed up the growth is using breakage to strength shampoo so I can skip getting hair trims. My hair dresser said she can't believe how nice it is or how healthy after not cutting in for a year... the expensive shampoo has paid off and I haven't had it cut in over a year now. I don't curl it, blow dry it or flat iron it. I color is once every 9 months or so and I only use conditioner at the ends.

I'm doing the usual: change shampoo brand everytime I finish a bottle, my hair gets used to a producs so is always healthy to change it.

I recently bought a brazilian ketarine treatment but I'll wait till my hair needs more repair to use it.

I am and also something that has helped a ton is that I crush up prenatals and mix it with my conditioner. It has been helping a ton!

Mine is getting pretty long, but I've been trying to grow it super long for forever. As soon as we got engaged I knew I was gonna need to do something to boost the growing process, so I started using mane n tail shampoo (horse shampoo) because my hairdresser suggested it. Then the last couple of months I started to take a multi vitamin every day. My hair is definitely a lot healthier and shinier, and growing a little faster I think. I've even been cutting it less and it's still staying healthy looking.

I've heard that you're only supposed to twist it with a clippy thing, so I'm trying to get into the habit of not using a scrunchie or band to pull it back....I was thinking of really not worrying about it...my mom is a crazy fabulous beautician and I think we're gonna put extensions in cuz I can't handle my hair being super long, and the hair "look" that I'm in love with will require crazy long locks...I'm gonna wave my white flag to the hair growing gods, lol! It goes down to about my nipple line now...we shall see!!!

Whatever you do, do NOT USE BIOTIN.  Vitamin B naturally occurs in your body and it increases sebum production.  99.99% of people get more than enough naturally through food.  I have never had problems with my skin but three days after I started taking Biotin, I started breaking out EVERYWHERE on my body! I stopped taking it and the problem went away within a few days after.  I could not believe it!

My is about two inches past the bra stap. I don't own a blow dryer (it dries stick straight,) I shower at night and sleep in a chunky braid. In the morning I get nice mermaid waves. I only wash it every other day. I use coconut oil on my ends (just a teeeeeny dab) and once a week I cover my hair in coconut oil and then shampoo it out after an hour. I avoid using the smaller poiny tail esastics. I almost never do ponytails but have mastered a messy bun using giant bobbypins. I use a giant hair pick to untangle it, extremely slowly from the bottom up. I have been obsessively careful for the last 4 years or so. I don't think I'll want to chop it after the wedding because I'm so used to it now.

@MsPanda:  I'm going to bust this myth right now... vitamins cannot improve your hair when applied directly. Hair does not "absorb" vitamins. Hair is dead. Dead cells do not absorb vitamins. Silicones in the shampoo can make the surface of hair shiny and some proteins can fill in the cuticles but vitamins do jack. As for your scalp, you would have to leave your vitamins on your scalp for HOURS to have any level of absorption, which would be minor, at that.

If you want your body to get vitamins, eat them.

I was trying to grow mine out. And then decided to get extensions, instead.2 years ago, I chopped my super long hair (center of my back) off and have been keeping it around 1/2 inch long. Very short hair! I really love it, but when I got engaged in December, I decided I would try my hand at growing it out, just so I'd have some hair to play with on my wedding. The most recent cut I hgot, had a deep side part with ver long bangs (to my lips). As it grew, I had to wear it as a center part, because it just looked awful otherwise. Fast worward to last week, I notice that because the style has grown out a bit, it looks a little uneven. I go to a stylist down here (my usual stylist is in Maine, I am in Vermont). I explain to her that I'm growing my hair, but in the mean time, I need a cut that will grow out evenly, because the current in-between stage isn't looking so hot. I ended up with this (mine is a little bit longer, but yea, this is what I have):

Who is growing there hair out for the big day? : wedding Hair2

This is Johnny Depp, in the 90s. Anything looks great on Johnny Depp, but I am not Johnny Depp. I said nothing except "thank you". I could not believe she would send someone- a woman preparing for her wedding, no less- out of her salon looking like that. I left and immediately set up an appointment at another salon to get extensions. Next week, I have a consultation to get my "hair" ordered, because...Seriously? SERIOUSLY?

ETA: My hair is a bit longer, but my bangs are just the same. It's the back/sides that are a little longer. Think like, a little boy's bowl cut.

I am trying! But my hair is a super slow grower. At the moment its just passed my chin (why did I get it cut a month before he proposed?!) and I have about 8 months left to grow it, hoping its at least passed shoulder length so I can put it up without it falling down again

I'm using an intensive conditioner now twice a week, and use a moisture shampoo, stopped dying it and just letting it grow (also not blow drying/straightening so I don't over damage the hair

It's tough but hoping my hair will look soft and shiny on the day!

I am trying, but my hair has thinned out after having a child so it's not going that great. I have to wash it every am or else it is oily as all get out and that comes along with blowdrying it and occasionally a flat iron. I don't color my hair, I don't use ANY products in it ( and never have ) and on the weekends I let it air dry.

I grew mine out, but I really didn't do anything too special. I just tried not to wash it more often than necessary, used a good conditioner, and trimmed the split ends as needed. I always air-dried and avoided using lots of product on it, but I did use a straightening iron on it once or twice a week.

I'm growing it out as well.

I can finally pull it back in a ponytail but I still have layers in the front that are too short for a ponytail. I still have over a year so I figured I'll be good for when the time comes.

I stopped dying it and I'm not using anything on it, not even the blowdryer.

I'm also taking NeoCell - Super Collagen+C, Type 1&3 tablets.

Haven't noticed much of a difference in my hair but my skin feels softer.

I started growing my hair out for this reason (but I'm not engaged yet-- I just know my hair takes forever to grow and want to have options). The first thing I do is make sure I get a healthy trim once every 3 to 4 months. Then I rarely use heat (like once a month, max), wash my hair every other day, and do not add any product to it. I also take pre-natal vitamins (NOT trying to get pregnant) and rinse my hair before I swim. If you can get away with it, the best thing for your hair is to shower, comb it with a wide tooth comb and let it air dry without touching it. I am very lucky to have stick straight hair and can pull this off. If you need to blow dry, let your hair air dry for as long as possible and then touch it up at the end.

@Mrs.Lonestar:  ehh, what is No Poo!?! :-\ lol I've seen that term a few times but what the heck? haha

I'm growing out my hair too! I've always had long hair but around July/August/September sometime I had a horrrrrrrrrible haircut. I mean this lady REALLY butchered my hair beyond recognition. Still recovering from it. But I've proclaimed that I will not TOUCH my hair (except for trimming occasionally and dying) until Wedding day. Which is projected to be 2013. I straighten my hair and color it so it's becoming more brittle as far as the split ends go...once it gets a little longer I'm going to stop straightening it too. Yiiiikes.

I'm finally almost done! Lol. It won't be quite as long as I had hoped, but it's still the longest I have had it since I was like 14.

I took/take Biotin supplements - they really have helped my skin and nails as well as my hair! Also, I use a deep conditioner once or twice a week.

Interestingly, the issues I had when my hair was shorter (frizzies, too much volume) have gone away because the weight of the length has pulled it down. Now the only product I use is leave-in conditioner sometimes.

I've stopped using as much heat on it as much as that pains me. I'd say it grew from 1/2 to 1 inch per month. I think the worst part was having to get the ends cut off and losing that length, but hey, it kept it healthy.

ETA: In the interest of full disclosure, I HATE IT. Lol. My hair being long means it's a huge pain in the butt. I have extremely thick, wavy hair and it's just....annoying. I'm soooooo ready for my PWC. I'm going to donate. :)

I didn't use anything special but I did grow it out. I was due for a haircut when we proposed and I just decided not to cut it for the next year and a half! 10 inches later, my hair was the perfect length for the style I origionaly wanted. I changed it last minute to something else but if I hadn't have grown out my hair, it wouldn't have been long enough to even do that!
