I think we're skipping the grooms cake and having chocolate chips cookies instead - his favorite! :-)
I'm def. having a grooms cake! Mines of a kingfish...let me see if I can find a picture!! :)
I really want to suprise my hubs to be with an awesome grooms cake. For those of you have already ordered them or know where you are ordering them from...were you able to order them from the place baking your wedding cake? I need to look into this further!
@lees4308 that is so awesome! haha I hope I can get something fun like that!
yeppers! totally doing a grooms cake...either a cubs or bulls hat (or stadium.. this was our friends' grooms cake)... or a tooth!
so excited to surprise him!!
@krissy: Maybe you could do the hat ON TOP OF the tooth! LOL just a thought! Maybe you could work it out to be really cute & so your hubby!!
oooooooooo @lees- brilliant! he would LOVE that and that'd be so cute!!! THANKS...totally going to try to do that!!!!
@krissy I'm glad you like it! I rarely come up with good ideas but I'm proud of myself for that one! If you do that you'll have to post pictures!!
@lees- haha, aww come on now! seriously, great idea! i think it'll look so cute!!! ( now i just cross my fingers that it won't be too $$$ ) but the grooms cake was always something i really wanted to do!!!
if it all works out i'll of course post pics.... it will be awhile (hello 2011, are you here yet?
) , but stay tuned!
@lees: Bwahahaha! I loooove that cake. I wish I fished or something so I could make someone get me a birthday cake like that.
@llc- that cake is AWESOME!!! oh my gosh, i wanna save that image for a birthday cake for him someday!!! YOU HAVE TO DO THAT ONE, for me please, and for all guys.
For our wedding, my hubby and I had baklava served on tiered trays as the "Groom's Cake"... It was just perfect since he is Turkish!! :-D
@krissy: I sure hope I'm still on WB in 2011!! I'm sure I will be though, because even though I'm getting married in 2 months this site is addicting!!
& thanks! Hubs fell in LOVE with it! It's only like 18" long...but we're really exciting about it!!
@krissybee - LOL it will be a selling point when we start to look for a baker, they have to be able to make an awesome xbox cake haha.
@lees- yeah, you better be roaming the boards! i know, WB is extremely addicting!
@llc- hahaha, indeed! its that cake or bust!!!!
We are serving a surprise groom's cake at the rehearsal dinner for my FI. He loves Reese's peanut butter cups so this cake will make him so happy! Also, my FMIL will be making the cake and I am really glad that she will be able to do this for him. She is such a great baker!
I really would love to do something like this for my FI but I just dont think I have the money. If a regular wedding cake is around $450 (from Publix grocery store, round cake that feeds 150) then one of these is going to be way more, or so Im assuming! If someone knew any different and would be able to help me out that would be great!!
My SIL asked if I was planning anything, and when I said no, she asked if she could make one for the rehearsal dinner. She made this fantastic cake, decorated with stripes and bubbles (a la our invitation suite) and topped with a SOCK MONKEY BRIDE AND GROOM! We are total sock monkey freaks in our family and it was awesome! Alas, I do not have any pictures from the RD, or I'd share!
My future hubby is Italian and he likes people knowing it, so he opted for this:

Cupcakes shaped as spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs will actually be Ferrero Rocher chocolates
No grooms cake here... but we are doing a blueberry pie as a second "groom's" dessert :-) We're doing the pie with a streusel topping, so it will actually be more like a blueberry crumble. It's FI's favorite... Plus blueberries. Maine wedding. Yeah. It works.
@Angeleri- that is so creative and FUN!!!!!!! i love it!
@skibo- yum!!! sounds delish, and perfect for your maine wedding indeed!!!!
I'm doing a Star Wars cake, it's a surprise for our rehearsal on SATURDAY! To be photographed by the famous Mrs. Candy Corn!
My FI is obessessed with Vegas. He's been at least twice a year since he turned 21 (which was 9 years ago!). The first vacation we ever took together was to Vegas, and fittingly, he proposed this summer while we were in Vegas. So, we're doing the Welcome to Las Vegas sign as his groom's cake and decorating the board and the table around the cake with poker chips, cards, dice, etc.
@101610bride - I love Vegas, it's like my family's second home. That cake sounds so awesome!
I am surprising Mr. Library with a groom's cake! He eats A1 steak sauce on everything so I am having our baker make a cake in the shape of that! I cannot wait to see his face!
We are! It's the NC State Wolf logo....In red velvet. Why yes, it will resemble a bleeding wolf. Unless you're a die-hard fan like the FI and his family. Who just said "it's wolfpack red!!"

ours was "The Horse Shoe" - the football stadium at Ohio State. and it was funfetti cake. Yummmm

These are so cool!
jaylii9- I LOVE that Reeses cake. What an awesome idea!
sunnyb - the R2D2 cake is great. FI wanted a Darth Vader helmet cake as our regular wedding cake. That got nixxed but it's where I got the idea for the grooms cake.
I want to suprise him with a grooms cake too. We both love Guinness, he's a bartender and we've been to Ireland a bunch of times - it's also where he proposed so I want to get him a cake that's a pint. Hopefully I'll be able to get it from the same baker who did this (I already contacted her) - fingers crossed. I think this is so cool:

In the south, it is very traditional to have a grooms' cake, and everybody would think we lost it if we didn't have one..but since I think it would be so cute to have T's hobby featured, here goes the inspiration for his grooms' cake:
but it has to be red. And he loves to go off-roading in the Georgia mountains and cross streams, climb hilly areas, and has a scorpion spider thing on the front in case he goes downhill at too steep of an angle. Did I mention he even has a wench on the back?
This one is kinda fun. It would remind me of his love of driving thru mud:
Mr. Peacock is a HUGH Seinfeld fan, so I am hoping to get him this cake

@mrspeacock: That is the COOLEST cake i have ever seen!!!
I'm a massive Seinfeld fan, i wish we did grooms cakes in Australia!
This is my fiances groom's cake. the only difference is that the suit, will be the actual color of his wedding day suit...since he thinks HE is superman! And to me..he is lol

I was thinking of surprising my then hubby of a groom's cake at the reception -- a Dallas Cowboy star (his fav football team). Who is having a groom's cake and what is it of?
