I found the perfect pair of cufflinks for my fiance, but he said he thought the best man was supposed to gift them to him….
I was under the impression that they are usually a gift from the bride?
Someone else said that the groom’s father is supposed to purchase them…
And now I’m just confused!
Help – who is supposed to purchase the groom’s cufflinks?

I don’t believe there is any tradition involving who buys the groom’s cufflinks. If you want to give him some maybe just let your FFIL know to cover your bases.

I’ve never heard of any tradition re: cufflinks. My DH ended up buying his own when we went to pick up his suit because we both completely forgot about it. We also then decided to add cufflinks for all the groomsmen to add to their gift because if we didn’t think of it, they probably didn’t either.

I think that it is supposed to be his mother.

- Wedding: May 2013 - Pavilion overlooking golf course scenery, reception at banquet hall
My husband wore a pair he already had that was given to him like 5 years ago by his aunt and uncle. They were personalized with his college’s logo on one side and his initials on the other.
But he rented his suit, and that included cufflinks. I’ve never heard of a traditonal gifting of them.

No one is SUPPOSED to buy the groom’s cufflinks. Every situation is different. I have never before heard of any tradition involving the nest man buying them for the groom.
Some grooms have family, school or professionally related cufflinks they want to wear.
Some men like to choose their own new cufflinks.
They are a great gift from the bride, especially if he regularly wears shirts that require cufflinks.

@lovelove1028: I have never even heard of this ‘tradition’. I think if you found a pair for him then just get them.

@lovelove1028: I bought the cuff links my SO will be wearing on our wedding day. I haven’t heard of any tradition regarding who buys the groom’s cuff links.

Cufflinks are an optional item. They are not required. If someone wants him to wear them, then that someone should buy them. If you are renting tuxes, most come with cufflinks.
I bought FI cufflinks for him to wear for our wedding but only because I saw the perfect ones for him and knew he’d like them. But by all means it was because I wanted to.

There are no rules. He doesn’t even have to buy cufflinks. Stop looking for “rules” to tell you what to do, and focus on just planning and being heppy with your own choices and planning!

I think cufflinks came with the tux my husband rented. Not entirely sure tho, because cufflinks weren’t really a big deal to either of us.

I don’t know who is SUPPOSED to but I got my man his. He is beyond obsessed with great white sharks, so I bought him a shark tie and cufflinks to wear. He is so excited!

My FH would never wear cufflinks – even for his own wedding and frankly it is a non-issue for me!

@lovelove1028: Normally he buys his own, or wears ones he has. If you found some you love and want him to have, give them to him. However – if they are for the wedding SAY SO when you give them to him.
