I am going tanning for sure! I'll start in September and then go spray tanning a few days before the wedding ( I spray tanned for my shower and it came out great!)
I didn't think of my makeup trial and not being very tan...I guess it depends on when I get my trial done to how tan I will be.
I'm going to shop spray tans. I've stared at too many pictures of cancer (pathology courses) to "tan" anymore. :(
I would definitely do the makeup trial on whatever shade it is you're going for.
My fear is I have already done my makeup trial...but it was a couple of weeks ago, after being at the lake for 5 days, and being at the pool this summer... So all should be well if I just keep things "tanned' down (sorry horrible pun)....
I will be tanning starting this week for my wedding in a month. I'm pretty pale so I wanted to spreadh it out so I can about once a week for the next 3-4 weeks and slowly get color.
I'm actually against tanning, have fears of skin cancer. Unfortunately, there's something in sunless tanners/spray tans that I'm allergic to and I end up breaking out in rashes sooooooo for this one occasion, I'm allowing myself.
I used to tan all the time and have had 2 moles removed because of it...switch to spray tan while you still can! It doesn't make you feel all warm and happy, but it's worth it.
That being said, I sprayed for a few weeks before the wedding and didn't compensate foundation because of it (I did my own makeup) and I think my face looked a little lighter than it should have. Luckily, you can't tell in pictures and it wasn't horrible in person. And on the day of, I didn't care because I was getting married! But make sure your MUA can adapt your foundation/makeup a few shades darker or you'll feel like a ghost!
I don't tan normally (naturally or otherwise) since I don't really like sitting in the sun and haven't been to a tanning salon for about 4 years.
I would love to say I'll just get a spray tan for my wedding day, but I think I am going to do the tanning salon. I got a spray tan awhile back and hated it. It looked so fake and caked onto my hands and feet - it was the expensive/good kind too. I can't take that chance for my wedding!
Also, I'll be in Hawaii for the week before my wedding so hopefully that will give me a bit of colour. I'd like to tan a bit first though to avoid burning so much on my pre-wedding vacation!
@pinkpaperbride: I think there's a difference between tanning all the time and tanning for one month for a special occasion as well. I agree that it's not good for you and should be done as little as possible...but I had a really really bad result with spray tanning!
Some of my girlfriends did spray tanning before my senior prom back in high school and they looked like straight-up oompa loompas.
I think I'd definitely consider spray tanning if I lived in a bigger city that had places that specialized in it. Especially if they could spray on some fake ab muscles while they were at it :)
I used Clarins Instant Tanning Gel... Everyone thought my color looked great. My MOH even called me "jamaica-fied." But seriously it's a great product.
@MademoiselleL: spray tanning definitely takes some practice/technique (as does tanning in a bed), but there are good ones out there! I'm not knocking anyone for tanning, a little or a lot, but in the past I generally only tanned a couple of months at a time (mainly in the late spring) and still ended up with irregular moles a few years later. It's something to consider, no matter how long or short of a period you're doing it for.
FI and I will both go for the month prior to the wedding. He never takes his shirt off outside so he is pretty white and wants a little color before the honeymoon. I don't get out in the sun much and have only a very slight tan from when I have been this summer. I don't do spray tans because of how I've seen some turn out. I just don't want to risk it for my wedding day.
y'all might find this interesting - I did!

I tanned the month before the wedding and I’m so glad that I did! I had my makeup trial before but it still came out really well and there wasn't really a difference. I just recommend that you make sure that you tan all visible parts (i.e. under your arms) because I realized just about a week before the wedding and there are some pictures where I can tell but no one else noticed I don't think. A month is a good amount of time because you get a good tan glow without being too tan. It also gave me a great base tan so I didn't burn on our beach honeymoon :)

In general I am pretty pale.....but like others have said, I am going to allow myself to go tanning the month before the wedding. Just want a nice 'glow'.
I need to go at least a few times to get rid of these horrible tan lines from my bathing suit.
I am not a friend of the sun or tanning beds. I tried a spray tan that made me stink and really i think I looked orange...... I was super worried because I would be on the beach, white on white BOOM in your face. But then my lovely mother introduced me to my new and FREE (well for me) cuz she gave it to me, best friend. A tanner from Bare Escentuals. It came with a cute makeup looking brush and wasn't a stain ( I don't think). I fooled around with it a month before, a few days before I put some on the areas that would be seen and voila!!!!!!!!!!!! No more casper! Best decision ever!!!!!!!!!
@pinkpaperbride: Good advice, I will make sure to tell my MUA that I have been tanning.
@Running Elley: Your skin looks beautiful!!
All Bees with advise on skin health, I agree totally. I do see a derm on a regular basis, and she knows I tan indoors and out. I have never had any issues, and my derm is actually surprised to know that I tan as much as I do based on my skin. Everyone is different though, my FI goes out for an hour without a hat and can end up with a spot.
As far as spray tanning, I have never done it and it kind of freaks me out. I am afraid that if it gets messed up, then what do you do?
So...I bit the bullet. I purhcased a month unlimited in a high pressure bed. I plan on going every other day for the next month, 9-12 minutes each time. Hopefully that will be just right.
i definitely plan on tanning. first because its so relaxing, and second because my FI absolutely detests tan lines. im pretty fair (blonde hair & blue eyes) but my complexion gets very dark during the summer months so my tan lines give the appearance of a white bathing suit against my dark tan (attractive, i know)
lets just hope i can manage to stay safe, haven't been to a tanning bed for somet time now and with the exception of getting a base for vacations, this should be the last time!
FYI - bee's who are planning to spray tan. I have had two friends do this prior to their wedding and it left stains on their precious wedding dress. Mostly on the edges where the sweat runs.
Just something to think about. I have spray tanned and while it didn't "bleed" off badly I would be worried using it with such an expensive "white" dress.
I am not a big fan of tanning either - but I too plan to tan 3-4 times a week leading up to the big day. :) Better get on that soon! ;)
i wanted to tan, but when i mentioned it to my makeup artist, she really advised against it. she said i might look nice in real life, but look orange in the photos. now i don't know what to do
@futuremrsmp: If you don't overdo it, and spend the money on going to a salon that has high end beds, you shouldn't turn orange. I never have, but I always use high pressure beds not low end beds. I also invest in good lotion specially made for indoor tanning, but without a bronzer. Keeps your skin from drying out, and also helps the UV absorb more naturally.y
I tanned and it definitely made a difference. We had a May wedding and there wasn't too much warm sun up here in lovely Chicago yet. I didn't make me appear orange. The most important thing is that you start at least a month out and are consistent. It also helped to find a salon with friendly staff. I explained what I was tanning for and they really helped me achieve the look I wanted. Be careful of spray tans--a lot of salons won't do them if you say it's for the wedding because the chemicals could come off on your beautiful dress. I got a spray tan a few days before my boudoir pics just to make sure it wasn't going to make me look really fake. There are different strengths of fake tans so you don't have to come out looking like a cast member of the Jersey Shore unless that's what you're going for.
I am starting to tan now, I am the palest white you can imagine! and I burn very easily. So I am starting out 2 times a week for like 6 minutes. Hopefully I will get a little color before the wedding and the honeymoon in Jamaica. The last thing I want happening is getting burned on the first day of the honeymoon and then being miserable the rest of the trip!
I'm pretty sure I'm going to go. Just 2-3 times a week for 3-4 weeks. I don't want to look noticeably darker than everyone else, but all I want to do is get rid of my tank-top tan lines so I can look awesome in my strapless dress!
I very highly recommend airbrush tanning (like a spray tan but more precise) since a technician is applying it on you (and not a machine). I used it for my epics and I thought it looked great =) I would agree with the posters who said the foundation definitely needs to be a couple shades darker than your normal shade though!
I will be getting spray tanned. I get sprays frequently and LOVE them. esp where i go i love there solution! I was diagnosed 3 years ago with Melanoma at age 20. I used to tan and I haven't since I've been diagnosed!
Currently tanning, started not quite 2 weeks ago and I have gone about 5 times so far. Will stop mid september, and that will give me 4 weeks or so to soften out my tan before the wedding. Im not trying to get "carribean mon" but need a lil something something to not look as white as my gown.
I've started tanning for my October wedding. I NEVER tan because of how bad it is for you...but I figure for a month and a half I'll suck it up. Besides, we're going to Mexico for the HM and I still have tan lines from where I got burnt in Texas in May. I sat outside for 45 minutes and looked like a lobster. Hells no that wont be happening on my honeymoon!

I LOVE being tan, and I am a fan of the warmth and relaxation of tanning beds. So, I am debating spending some time at the tanning salon the month before my wedding (so like beginning today). I don't want to be overly tan, and already had my makeup trial done so my colors are down prior to this tanning adventure.
Who tanned? Did you have your makeup trial before? Did it all work out?
