@futuremrsk18:  Making more money doesn’t necessarily make one person the breadwinner. If you both bring home money, you’re both breadwinners.

He brings home more money at the moment, but overall it evens out as I have a whopping great pension that I’m paying into and he doesn’t.

We should be making the same, but he makes more because I am underpaid, but I am supposed to be getting a pay raise that would put me more in line with market rate. However, its a small company so I doubt this will actually occur too soon.

If I were to change jobs right now we would be a lot closer to even. (although his bonus would put him over)

It really depends, I just quit my job but if I get the job I’m interviewing for later today I’ll be the breadwinner. His job is also commission based so during peak retail months (Nov-Dec) I imagine he’ll be making bank 🙂

I’m going to school full time too and he’s fine paying a little more for his share of rent if I need him to. At the beginning we moved here for my job and I paid more because he didn’t have a job very close to home.

FI’s the main breadwinner, but we wouldn’t want to survive on just one income either way.  He makes about time and a half what I make at this point, both at government jobs so both with good cheap benefits and pensions.

For most of our relationship, I’ve been the person with the income.  However, once he graduates from med school next year, he’ll make just a bit more than me.  As a teacher, I make just shy of $50,000/year, which is about what a medical intern will make… However, his salary will rise MUCH faster and MUCH higher than mine in due time!

My FI makes like 3x what I do. I will make a more similar salary (I hope) when I finish school.

right now I make more, but I’m paying down my debts so we end up with about the same amount of dispoable income.  Once he finishes up his phd, he should be making a lot more than me.
