Well Leon Mege is amazing I think, and if you don't mind going to Long Island Jon at Good Old Gold does nice work but I really like Mark from engagement ring's direct and he is in the city I believe. They all have websites if you just throw them into google.
FI went to Matinee (on 47th of course) and had a great experience, so we'll prolly use them for bands. I had a bad fall a week after getting engaged, and they fixed my setting and reset the diamond all for free while I waited (took less than an hour). I used to work in diamond/fine jewelry wholesale (Kwiat then Mouawad) so I was actually a bit disappointed that he didn't go through one of the many people I know in the industry that would have probably given him a good price...but he really really wanted to keep it a secret and do it all on his own. From what I can tell from the GIA cert and louping the diamond myself, he didn't get screwed, so Matinee gets a thumbs up in my book=)
rubino jewelers (in westchester) AMAZING work...AMAZING prices...The owners customize jewelry and definitely help to stay within the budget you tell them. definitely worth checking out (about 20 mins from the city)!

We also used Little King. With their help, my fiance custom designed my engagement ring, and we're going to design wedding bands that match.
Didn't end up getting my ring from there bc FH ended up using their family's jeweler down in Miami but he came highly highly recommended from two different people and when we went in to look (twice!) they were so very nice, professional and from what FH said, relatively affordable...

Unusual Wedding Bands in the Diamond District (though I didn't get anything unusual)
Does anyone have recommendations for a custom-designed intricate/detailed gold ring, specifically? We plan to provide the stones to be set into it, and it's Moissanite, so no one who will try to sell us a diamond or guilt us for not choosing a diamond...
@vegan...id recommend my jeweler. they do all custom designs (my ring is custom) and they also make custom rings with any stones you already have (a family member of mine also did that)

Larry's on 47th Street is amazing, we got a brilliant deal!
We've been going to Unusual Wedding Rings -- Herman (the owner) is great. Very helpful, very patient and not pushy. We are on a tight budget and they haven't made us feel in the least bit bad about it -- like some others on 47th. He's researching a custom titanium ring for my FI.

FI got my engagement ring through someone he knew but that person has since had a baby and is no longer working. So now we don't know where to go for wedding rings, and I would like to get mine to match (so probably custom work here). We don't want to just walk into any random jeweler.
Anyone else getting custom work done in NYC? or feel that their jeweler does great work for a good price?
