So I am trying to figure out what the heck I am going to do for my color scheme. I thought I had an idea I LOVED but now… I am second guessing it.
We originally were going to do a fall wedding so it was so easy for me to decide but now the wedding has moved into the summer and I need to change it up. I am totally OK with this but it is proving to be a bit of a challage for me. What ‘Theme” do I use? I have no clue!!!! I am afraid that my wedding will look like someone just slapped a bunch of random crap together. 🙁
I want to use ivory in my colors as the linens provided by my site are ivory (that way I don’t have to rent as much in the linen category). We decided on Taupe, Turquoise and Ivory. Here’s my dilemma….. while I love Tiffany’s, I feel like it’s going to turn into a Tiffany’s inspired wedding. I really don’t want that. I was planning on buying turquoise tablecloths (cheaper than renting) and napkins and then using an ivory overlay (provided by site). The chair covers will be ivory as well. I really want to rent cane chairs and I am thinking I may do so. Wanting to get white ones with turquoise cushions and use them for the ceremony and reception (site has recommended this) then I don’t have to use their boring chair covers. Here’s my fear with that though, the turquoise on the cushion my clash and be very different than the turquoise on the tablecloths. The price tag on those chairs scares me a bit as well!
My fiance REALLY wants to wear a taupe suit so this will all work out just fine. But how the heck do I incorporate the taupe in the reception. This is what makes me fear my wedding turning into a Tiffany’s ad.
I wanted to try and DIY center pieces with floating candles and submerged flowers but I don’t know what I would even use now. Oh and I am thinking about using calla lillies for ceremony flowers.
I guess I am just at a complete loss as to how to tie everything in together. I know what I wrote above is a complete ramble and hard to decipher. I just need some advice!!!! How do I make this shindig semi-casual/laid back with a touch of elegance? AHHHHH!!! By the way, it’s a mountain wedding if that helps.

@Soon2BeBee: It would be easier for people to get the concept if you just edit your post while you still can. Within the first hour you can just change ivory to white yourself.
What chairs does the venue provide? Are they really so ugly that you have to rent additional chairs and then still have to pay to cover them up? That doesn’t make financial sense to me.
To be fair, I will state that I am not a fan of chair covers. You will have a sea of ivory that will them become the focal point instead of having the focal point be the tables and centerpieces.
You really don’t have to worry so much about the perfect matching colors even if you do decide to go with the chair covers and turquoise cushions. The turquoise cloth will be mostly covered by the overlay, and the seat cushions will be covered by your guests.

@julies1949 The site only provides chairs for the reception. Ceremony chairs must be rented from an outside company. The reception chairs are HIDEOUS banquet style chairs so I would have to get chair covers. They have this weird olive/blue faded fabric to them. My thought was since I would have to rent chairs for the ceremony anyway, why not just rent the cane chairs and use them for both. My DOC said she could have people move them all in during cocktail hour (ceremony will be outside, reception in). I am not sure I explained that all in my original post. I rambled.
I do agree with you on the absolute sea of ivory. Just too much! I will be SO SICK of ivory by the time the wedding is through lol.
I have just started to realize that I am not good at coming up with a style or theme. I continue to find really cool ideas that I love and then when I put it all together it looks like I just found a bunch of random stuff and put it together. Not cohesive at all…

If you want submerged flower centerpieces, you can use ivory or blue flowers.
You could incorporate taupe in the color of your floating candle, or use taupe as a base for the vases. You could also use taupe in the table numbers, or add little chachkas at the base of the centerpieces in that color.
Ikea Tolsby frames can be spray painted the color of your choice, or you could use an ivory frame with taupe cardstock for the background.
You could also use wood discs for your table numbers

When you say ” cane chair” do you mean Chiavari chair?
Can you rent the chairs and use only a cushion-no chair cover? The chair REALLY does not have to be ivory ,blue or taupe.

@julies1949 Yes I mean chiavari. I have heard them called both. Thanks for all of the photos! Those little wooded table numbers are ADORABLE!
I am not sure I want to go dark on the chairs if everything else is so light in color. I do think it is absolutely gorgeous though.
I guess I just never thought all of this would be as hard as it is!

@Soon2BeBee: You don’t have to use dark wood. That was just a picture. They come in many colors including ivory and clear acrylic.

I would say use taupe and ivory for the linens, and bring in the turquoise with napkins and centerpieces. are your bridesmaids in a tiffany blue? That could look lovely.
