Who prefers a higher setting?

This is my ring in it’s old setting. It’s currently being reset into a custom setting, but it will still be fairly high. I like cathedral settings. I’ve never noticed it scratching anything or or being hit on things more often than any of my other lower set RHR’s. The only thing that has been a bit of a pain is when my husband holds my hand, he turns the ring in on my finger a bit so its not poking him as much 🙂

I wouldn’t call mine high, but it is higher than what I originally wanted. I wanted something with a lower profile because I horseback ride and I didn’t want it getting in the way. Now I just leave it in a safe place at home when I go ride because I don’t want to somehow lose it!

Pleeease excuse the crappy photo. Took it with my webcam. A decent camera is on the wedding registry!

I don’t think I would want anything higher than this though and I know I wouldn’t want it without the cathedral setting because it kind of keeps the head from snagging on everything.

Mine is quite high. You get used to it. I figure as long as my prongs are secure and the diamond is safe, I’m okay. But sometimes, it does get stuck if I try to get in my pants pocket.

I don’t have a side shot, but it is a high setting. I love the high setting, it just sucks because you hit it more on things. I’m always paranoid I’m going to knock the diamond out because I’m a clutz and bang into stuff all the time. I always take it off before work because I’m a nurse and before showering, using chemicals, etc, etc.

Here you go. I love my little side diamonds around the center diamond.

My new solitaire is in a high 6-prong setting. I don’t have pics of it yet but I absolutely love it.

@dar7:  here’s mine, it’s got nice thick prongs in a basket setting.

The jeweller said it makes the diamond stand out more and it does. I was considering a lower setting with the same size diamond but the higher setting made the diamond look bigger.

I like the look of high settings, but I’m too clumsy to wear them myself.

Mine sits relatively high.  I didn’t necessarily choose the setting because it was a high setting, though.  After shopping at who knows how many jewelers, trying on what seemed like every semi-mount under the sun, I ended up with a solitaire.  I wanted a mount that was pretty substantial, as I’m not a small woman (5’8″ +/- 175#).  And I liked that the cathedral had lots of metal.  AND I have OCD, and couldn’t stand the thought of a band not sitting flush with my ering.
