So… I am having mixed feelings right now. I want to start looking at dresses but I feel weird going alone. I have plans to go to a trunk show later in the month to look at the designer I truly am coveting, and family/friends are planning to come for that, but I think I should try on dresses before that? My bridesmaids are not local and I could ask another friend to go with me, but I feel weird doing that since she’s not in the wedding party.
So should I just wait to try on dresses for that trunk show? My mom is like “don’t buy the first dress you try on” but I’m worried that I am going to love the dress I’m coveting… and then where am I?
So did anyone go alone to look at dresses initially?

My very first time trying on dresses I went with my BFF and thats it! When she went dress shopping for the first time, it was only with me too 😀

I went with my grandmother and my husband. I tried on 4 dresses and bought the 3rd one that day. =)

Well originally I wanted to wait to try on dresses until much closer to the wedding and when Mum would be willing to go with me, BUT I fell in love with the Alfred Angelo Belle 2011 dress, and when I was out with one of my BMs I tried it on! So the first time was just BM and I

Can your mom come? My mom has been the only one who went shopping with me so far and it’s been great.

I only went once (seriously, getting my dress and 3 BMs dresses took like 45 minutes) but had a whole crew of mom, and grandmas mine and his, 2 aunts, my sister and cousin.

I went with my Dad, my sil/bff, my niece/bm, and the two fg’s. Bought the first dress I tried on. I tried on like 20 but the first one made me ball and my Dad said he couldn’t take his eyes off me in that one.

I went with my mom, my MIL and my godmother.. I totally ended up picking what THEY liked, so I had to go again to change it for someone I like instead… It was so hard to take their comments.. :S

@mepayne: Mom is on the other side of the country unfortunately. She won’t even be able to come at the end of the month, but my FMIL, FSIL, MOH and SIL will be here to support me then…

I went by myself the first time I tried on dresses. It was the weekend immediately after getting engaged! I got an email about a sample sale, so it was just fate. 🙂

I went with one of my two MOHs, and I ended up buying a sample dress that day- so one person (other than sales staff) saw the dress before I bought it.
You may want to try on dresses alone, or with one girlfriend, so you’re not swayed too much by other people’s opinions- you could get a good feel for what YOU want.

I’ve been alone a few times and my first time was alone. It’s nice not to have other conflicting opinions, but it’s definitely a fun experience doing it with others.
