Technically your mom isn’t supposed to, but mine did anyway – she joined forces with my Maid/Matron of Honor.

Anyone who wants to throw you a shower really can.  One caveat:  you’re not supposed to ask for a shower.  That’s the hard part 🙂

My Future Mother-In-Law actually hosted my shower. My family all live out of town and my bridesmaids weren’t being too helpful, so she offered to throw me one. It turned out nicely, and everyone had a good time.

My mom’s friend is hosting it but really all she’s doing is providing food. My mom is handling RSVPs and planning. My MOH/sister has helped with production too.

My sister (who is MOH) and my mom. I know that technically that’s not how it should go, but we’re having a co-ed bbq instead of the traditional shower anyways, so we’re already bucking tradition.

My aunts are all throwing it together. My mom has helped them a bit with planning (since we’re having it in my hometown which is 2+ hours away from where all my aunts live), but she isn’t hosting it for me. I only have a week and a half left until the shower! 🙂

In our grandparents’ generation, it was inappriate for the parents to host a shower. Back then, families often didn’t live in completely nuclear units and even those that did were inheriting a tradition of values from those who didn’t like in nuclear units. In such a framework, the mother throwing the shower would be personally benefitting, so it was considered rude.

In our parents’ generation, some people thought it was inappropriate, others didn’t and it became more popular as the household of the children became distinct from that of the parents.

Today, it’s totally normal for a MOB or MOG to host a shower for a bride, but you could also consider anotehr female family member, maybe and aunt or sister.

We’re having a couples shower hosted by our maid of honor & best man (my brother & my FSIL), with the help of my mom.

My Future Mother-In-Law, FSILs, and our flower girl’s mom are throwing it, my bridal party consists of my sisters, and FSILs, and my friends are spread across the country leaving few options. The guest list is mostly my FMIL’s friends, so I think it’s ok. Plus they offered! I don’t think I would of had one otherwise.

My shower is being hosted by my sister (maid of honor), sister-in-law and nearly sister-in-law (bridesmaids). The planning is primarily done by my nearly sister-in-law (brother’s girlfriend of 7 years) as she is the only one of the three that lives in the same town as me and as where the shower will take place.
