I’ve just realised my engagement ring is broken! The actual band (the part that goes underneath my finger) has cracked in two. The ring is still wearble but I just noticed the crack today.
One of the claws has also broken off and I’ve also noticed that on either side of the diamond, the yellow gold looks a bit faded (I might have a gold plated ring, no idea!)
Anyway, we’re planning on going wedding band shopping this weekend and I think I’ll be a bit embarrassed to show up with this bashed around engagement ring, haha (we’ve had a long engagement and I’m not very gentle with my hands!)
I hope it isn’t too expensive to fix either… :S

@ksus07: how bad is it? i heard that reputable jewelers can use a bit of metal (depending on your ring metal, like gold, platinum, etc) to mold the ring back together. I hope it gets fixed up and prettied up for you!

@ksus07: Have the jeweler look at it for you. I took an heirloom piece in to be cleaned and looked at. It had a minor crack in the band and one of the stones was kinda loose so they’d need to replace the prong. That jeweler quoted me $250 but I didn’t go anywhere else. I also didn’t get the work done because I never wear the piece, but I would ask a couple people if I was going to.

I cracked me e-ring setting a few weeks ago. not in half but there was a crack half way through the band between my center ring and one of the side stones. It was $45 to fix it including having it “dipped” as it is rhodium plated yellow gold and I could see yellow underneath. Ultimately I am going to reset my ring in the next few weeks: thinker and sturdier band with more weight underneath to keep the diamond from spinning and I’m thinking a lower basket setting so I will be less likely to catch it or hit it on something in the future! good luck with getting your ring fixed. Hopefully you won’t be without it for very long b

@Glorificous: @MexiPino: @KatB442: Well… I have a confession to make… it’s not the first time I’ve broken it! XD I don’t know if it’s anything to do with my ring size, which is ridiculously small. Oh well.
I think I just had this image in my head of the salesperson at the jewellery shop going “So you’re looking at wedding bands? Excellent. Oh, you like this one? Great, that’s a beauty. Now if you don’t mind, can I get your engagement ring so I can make sure we order your wedding band in the same size? Thanks. Oh god DAMN WTF DID YOU DO TO IT?!!”
