For all you guys who are worried that you don't have this or you don't have that or the timing is off, I wouldn't worry about it! My impression is that they accept all kinds of brides from all kinds of locations, and many are in very different phases of planning. I can't imagine that not having a venue would preclude anyone from being accepted. Wouldn't it be interesting to follow the path of someone trying to find a venue? I feel like other bees have been in that position. Anyhow, correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the rules are that stringent in terms of what kind of bride you are or where/when you're getting married.
I've started the application, but something is keeping me from turning it in... I know that my blog "voice" may need improving... And I really need to be more active on the boards...
@ alissalovelady: there was something holding me back, too - I had a half done application sitting on my computer for weeks! However, I just turned mine in yesterday, and I'm relieved (although now the waiting will probably be Killer) I saw just go for it! I there's something you're missing or whatnot, you can always re-apply. :)
Actually, there are SOME requirements - one of which is that you're within 8 months of your wedding date.

I looked around a little and then realized the rules were staring me in the face on the right hand side bar. :)
I've applied twice and been rejected THREE times. Yep. Not sure if I should take that as a hint? (They randomly sent a rejection and I replied "um, I haven't re-applied" and they said "whoops! it was a mistake") I'll keep trying but if I'm not what they're looking for, so be it! :(
@crebre80: You are too funny about your mini competition! I didn't need to go in to work that day, woke up at noon and stayed in my PJs til 6, so I had a little bit of free time
Just needed one of those days and weddingbee happened to be the outlet I spent my time in! I do occasionally see how many I can post, but that's too funny!
I'm contemplating on applying. One of my biggest hesitations is that I'm not such a DIY bride. I'd love to get into more creative projects, but due to the fact that I'm a Filipino-American living in the Netherlands, having her wedding in San Francisco (my home town), DIY projects are simply out of the question. It definitely would not be cost-effective to ship DIY projects across the other side of the pond (other side of the world).
My own personal blog is more about having the American experience living in the historic center of Utrecht (mini-Amsterdam), studying in another country, and taking advantage of different travel opportunities. I am, however, starting to write more wedding related material and the challenges of being an "overseas bride".
I still enjoy reading the blogs and look forward to all the different projects.
I have applied twice and have been rejected twice -- I don't have enough time (IMO) to apply again and be sad right before my wedding (it really was a little pathetic how bummed out I was that second time!!) but I'm having a great time on the boards here this last month!! Good luck to all the 'wannaBEES' =D
ETA:
amariem25 - I am so with you! LOL =)
Good luck to those applying! My advice, for what it's worth, is to just be yourself rather than trying to fit into some mold of what you think they're looking for (did that make sense? I am so tired). Don't worry if you're not crafty, etc., just write and have fun and go for it!
For those of you who wanted to know, I believe you can start applying 8 months before your wedding date. Hope that helps :)
@rinamae - as a bride who is ALSO planning her wedding from halfway around the world (but still deteremined to DIY - I've got a few months in country though), I would love love love if you were a bee!
Sometimes I feel like not many of them really touch on the issues of distance relationships, OR distance planning, and those are what I deal with on a daily basis!
@crebre80 you are so sweet and thanks for the ego boost and follow :D
@AlissaLoveLady We're twin date! You are the first bride I've met with the same date as me! That makes me so happy :)
Best of luck to everyone who is applying!
To answer the original question, I was not active in the hive before I became a Bee. Just another anonymous reader! I think this is actually my first board post...ever! I felt like I'd be butting in on people's conversations, but now I can see how feedback makes the community even stronger. And more interesting. :)
@rinamae: That sounds like an awesome story, and I know I'd love to read more!
LittleOctopus, you're so sweet!
Everytime my blackberry vibrates, I'm like, oh shit, this is it. Getting shut down. lol. I need to just turn off everything. I feel like I'm waiting for a boy to call me back about a date.
Hahaha you're funny. I have a feeling I'm going to be like that when I apply too. Must get a smartphone in the next few months...
Remember all us little people when you're a big and famous Bee!! ;)
Oh and just in case we jinxed you, I knocked on our wood laminate coffee table for you. Sorry, closest thing to knocking on wood!
Fiftyfootbride, I hope you get accepted! It would be so much fun to see you as a Bee! I think all of us on the boards seem to agree on that one, hopefully all our rooting for you will help you out. You'll need to let us all know what happens, or at least let us know who you are when you're a Bee :)
Thank you! You guys are so ridiculously too much awesome and nice for me to handle. lol
I'll let you all know either way, of course. :p
I read one of the bee's entries recently (I think it was P Chip) who said she started a blog specifically to apply for weddingbee. Has anyone else done this? Just curious :)
I know alot of people who have done this! I need to start a blog to keep in touch with my family since I have been doing such a terrible job of it, though, so I'll probably combine the two. I still haven't talked to boy about it to make sure he's okay with it, but we're also not engaged yet so you know.
FiftyFootBride, I would LOVE IT if you were a Bee! Our weddings are so similar, down the dates! Not to mention you are HIGH-larious :) You really brighten up this community.
I would have loved to apply but I am just too dang busy. I know it would become a burden instead of the delight that WB has been to me!
@colorcoated: i started one to apply to be a BEE even though I doubt if I can because I'm a vendor as well... I probably won't be getting engaged for another year or so so I'll definitely be honing my skills LMAO!!
@ 50: oh man, you HAVE to be a Bee!!!! Anything you post, I read, because I know it will be worth it!! So I can only imagine how great your blogs would be!!!
I'd love to apply, but I really don't plan on doing any DIY stuff, and I feel like that's such a huge part of what people write about and want to read. I am however, cursed. In all aspects of life. LOL. FI finally believes me after witnessing so many things happen to me that just don't happen to people. Chronicling how that will surely end up affecting my wedding planning might be interesting though.... haha
@ColorCoated: I think it was Miss Rainbow who wrote that in her intro post. But that is what I did as well. And I was mostly a lurker/occasional commenter before I applied.
@ colorcoated: I started my wedding blog specifically to apply. I had personal blogs/online journals that I used to rant, ramble, and keep in touch with friends, but starting a real blogger account and writing reader-friendly posts almost daily about weddings was specifically for weddingbee. I think this is pretty common, actually,
@colorcoated- I also started my blog just so I could apply. I have a couple more months until I can, so I figured I should get started & get used to blogging. I've never had one before. I need to get more comfortable before in blogging before I apply!
Just 4 days ago I said I wouldn't even blog... I had no time... and now I have all the time in the world. lol
<---- Addicted. Blogging is so much fun!!! I'm a little late to jump on the bandwagon lol.
I am still firm on the fact that I won't apply to become a Bee though. My FI would never be cool with sharing personal photos online. Also it could put his job in jeopardy... Sad.
@Alissalovelady: A lot of the current Bee's were not super active on the boards... I just read somewhere that a couple of them had less than 50 posts!
RB- I think that is lame. But you knew that. Work was INSANELY busy today and I kept writing blog posts in my head. I always do that, but I never actually write them down!
@KM: start a blog dammit!! I'm sure you have lots of interesting things to say. Even if you don't, I'll follow you lol.
@daniellemybelle- :) Thanks! We'll also both be sweating balls on our wedding date, since you is gettin' married in the south too. :p
@honeybun- Thanks to you too! That makes me smile giant smiles. I need to work on being more relaxed in my blog posts. I sometimes get into paper-writing-need-to-be-a-little-proper mode. Not for whole things, but for parts. I'm trying to chillax. I guess I worry about being a spaz. On here, I don't really try to control my 'spaz.' lol
fifty - i love your blog too! It would be awesome if you apply and get accepted! I'd miss your fiftyfoodbride icon though!
I wanted to apply! But I was such a chicken.
And now I'm not a chicken... and it's too late. The nuptials are fast approaching!
Laylabelle --- you're not a chicken! it's more like zany pressure, as i like to call it... =)
Lol, yeah - lotsa zany pressure!!
I was also having serious writers block.
Funny, because now that I'm so close, I don't have writers block anymore. Now that I don't have time to blog as often! Sigh. Them's the breaks.
@GaBGal: You would make a great Bee!!! Your blog is full of inspiration & you're totally entertaining... I think you fit the Bee criteria perfectly :)
I love that you just put up a tutorial. I can't wait to see more of your DIY stuff as it gets closer to your wedding date!!
I to have applied when they sent out the message saying June brides could start sending. Hopefully I don't get the dreaded rejection slip....but if I do I most likely will not apply again. BUT I will continue blogging, since I have been blogging about the wedding now since we hit our one year out mark in June. I didn't start my blog with the intention to apply to be a bee, but more for my mom who lived 7 hrs away and likes to keep up with what I am doing wedding wise.
