Not sure about this one.  We are having a reception, and then an after-party.  I will definitely be changing into a cute, short, dress at some point...just not sure when.  How about you girls?

Please include photos of your party dress if you have some...

I wish I could afford a second dress. There was a dress I fell in love with and that I wanted to wear at my reception because it was very sexy and sleek compared to my ball gown, but it cost the same as my dress and I just couldn't do it!!

My theory is two fold: 1) I'll never get to wear a wedding dress again (ideally), so I'm planning on wearing my dress as long as I can; 2) my budget is already maxed out, so I really can't afford a second dress, haha.

I've seen a lot of girls do this and it's worked great for them; I think it depends on your personality, the style of your wedding and reception, and what will make you happiest on the day of. :)

@daydreamwanderer - I'm with you!  My best friend said she did not want to take her dress off even when they came home from the wedding.  :)

But I can see why some girls would want to do this.  If you think you'll be more comfortable and have more fun, why not!

I'm wearing that darn thing as long as humanly possible! It gets one special day to be worn...I'm going to wear the heck out of it! Perhaps if I hadn't spent as much $ as I had, then I would consider changing...but as it stands, I spent a great big heap of cash on that baby...

My mermaid gown won't let me par-tay on the dance floor so I'm going to change into a dancing/fun dress! Something cheap, maybe couple hundred. My wedding gown was within my budget so I could splurge a little on getting a 2nd dress!

I deeply considered it for about 2 hours and then I realized that I wanna wear my wedding dress as long as I possibly can because I will never be able to wear it again so I want to get all the time I can with it.

hahaha @monitajb -sleeping in it? Thats an excellent idea!!!!! me too!

I might if I find used/sample dress before the wedding that's reasonably priced. I'm starting to love my trumpet dress a bit more each day but I'd still like to wear a princess dress as well as this is probably the only time I'll get to do that.

    Do it! :-)

I was SOOOO hot in my dress that I had a really hard time dancing and enjoying my reception. I wish that I had picked another dress to change into for 1/2 thru the reception. Would have made a huge difference in how much I was able to enjoy it I just felt really tired and wanted to go home. how sad!

I figure if I only get to wear my dress once I want to wear it for as long as possible. I love my dress so much I'm already considering wearing it around the house, luckily it doesn't come in until June!

At first, I was against the two dress theory as well!  Then I realized that I need a second dress for our after party!  My FI and I are getting married on our old college campus...we are having a ballroom reception, but since all our friends are coming in from out of town, we're throwing an after party at the club/louge where we first met.  I'm talking from 12am-2:30am.  :-D Looking for something cute and short so I can show off my great heels.

I loved my dress so much, I didn't want to take it off!  I was sad that I only got to wear it one day, so I definitely wasn't changing!

I love my main dress, but we are going out in Vegas after the reception dinner and I don't want to risk tearing the bottom.  So I got a cheapo white party dress to change into for late night clubbing.

i agree with daydreamwanderer on this one..will be wearing my dress for as long as possible..i absolutely love it and did go a little over budget, so i want to be in it as long as i can be=)

i guess it depends on your personal preference..whatever you're comfortable in!!

It totally depends on your style, personality and dress!  Haha...I wore mine all the way through, but it was a train-less dress that wasn't extraordinarily heavy!

I am getting married in July in Ireland.  I have this gorgeous dress and for the money I wanted to wear it the whole night.  (I am 49 and he is 48 and this is my first actual "wedding" and I will never do this again).  We have a total of five children between us, 21, 19, 14,  12 and 8.  My fiance asked me what am I wearing after the reception.  The wedding is at 4:00 p.m., followed by cocktails and then dinner at 5:30 or so and then the DJ starts around 7:00 until 12.  After that there is an after party in the bar area.  I never thought of it but I was looking for cocktail dresses and found a black cocktail dress with rhinestones in the middle which I really like and since my colors are black with pink I would wear that to the after party with these high heels that have rhinestones on them.  But do I want to wear black since my bridesmaids are wearing black dresses with pink accents.  Or should I get another color dress for the after party.  Then I thought, maybe I should just wear my dress until after the dinner and cake cutting and then change into a simplier light fun wedding dress and wear it to finish out the reception and also to the after party.

What do you girls think?  (My bridesmaids will not be at the after party since they are 14, 12 and 8).

No second dress for me! I love love love my dress, and I want to wear as long as I can! :) And for the amount of money I'm spending on it, I can't see myself buying another dress just for the reception. Maybe a "going-away" dress...

I thought about it, but then I love my dress too much--I wanna wear it as long as possible!  And I can always buy fun white dresses for the rehearsal dinner and day-after brunch. : )

@nyirishluv: The black dress and shoes sound cute!  I think for the after-party, you have complete freedom in what you wanna wear, so go with whatever makes you feel like a party animal!

Ive commented on this in the past. I fail to understand this trend. You only get one chance to wear a fancy wedding gown, why would you want to change into a short dress? You can wear a short white dress any other time. My dress was expensive and Im so in love with it, I cant wait to wear it! I know ill be sad taking it off at the end of the night, theres no way I would want to take it off after the ceremony! I always think its really strange when a bride changes into a short dress, and ends up looking like one of the guests.

Look at this one!  It's an allure dress and the skirt actually comes off! I haven't tried it on, but i thought the idea was interesting...

I haven't bought my dress(es?) yet (but need to... like this week) and I really can't decide whether I want one or more than one... let alone which one(s?) that may be.  The dress I'm leaning towards (definitely for the ceremony at least) is pretty and I like a lot of things about it but I don't think I'm as excited about it as y'all seem to be about yours... which sucks and which is why I'm reluctant to order it.  I've looked EVERYWHERE though and I still haven't seen one that blows me away. A lot of wedding dresses just look the same to me.  The only reason I'm leaning towards two is so I feel more satisfied in that my combination of dresses will include more features that I like... since I can't find any one dress that has them all.  It's so tough.  On top of it all, I'm really indecisive and I consider the dress one of the most important details of the day, if not the most.  Thoughts?  The dresses I like are the Maggie Sottero Janessa and the Enzoani Bria... which are completely different, naturally.

I had a friend who bought two dresses.. spent alot of money on both and then only wore the one on the day, meanwhile a beautiful dress was left unused. :(

Im too afraid that I will do the same but I LOVE my dress, except its quite heavy, that is the only reason I would consider a second.

@LegallyBlonde---I didn't have that "omg" moment either.  I kept waiting for it, but 6 months and 100+ gowns later I ordered a gorgeous Rosa Clara Two gown.  I love my dress, I'm excited to wear it, but I understand feeling a bit disappointed when you're waiting for that moment.

As far as the two dresses go, I am super pumped for a chic second gown.  I feel this is my time to wear something awesomely couture and crazy gorgeous.  I am almost more excited about my second dress, and it's about $1500 less expensive.  Go Figure!   Short, fun, dresses with a great pair of heels is just more "me"!

I may change for the after party but maybe not.  The afterparty is in the hotel bar so I may just keep my dress on to sneak a few more hours in it... I love it.  But we'll see.  I think I'll find a cute dress I can change into and if I don't wear it that night I'll have it for the honey moon.  Even though I'm not personally doing it, I do think it is a really cute idea.

On our wedding day, I'm going to maximize my wear time b/c I only get to wear my dress once :) Knowing me, I'd probably want to fall asleep in it and wear it the next day!

I'm considering changing into a shorter, more comfortable dress after the reception, for the after party. I'm not convinced yet, have to see if it's in my budget. I do love this dress, and it's perfect for our summer beach wedding:)

My advice to if for the reception so you don't have to do it before the after party. It'll make the reception fun, you'll be able to move around easier!
