I’m also looking into St. Lucia at the end of October. It is a recommended tropical vacation location during that time of year, because apparently it is far enough out of the hurricane zone that it’s OK to travel there during the Carribean hurricane season.

We are honeymooning in Aruba in mid-October.  Apparently Aruba is the “safest” place as far as hurricane season goes.  We did one week all-inclusive at the Riu Palace, which came to $4000, but I believe it’s the most expensive inclusive resort there.  There are a few other really nice places in Aruba that I’m sure you could book for $3500.

Just an idea!

I posted a review of Sandals La Toc on the boards.  Anywhere in the Virgin Islands will be tough for $3500, unless you stay fewer days.  You might want to look at Jamaica, Bahamas or Mexico–they all seemed to be cheaper.  At that time of year, I would definitely invest in trip insurance–just make sure it covers what you need.

We spent $5400 for hotel and airfare for 7 nights for a mid-level room.  We did a helicopter transfer to the resort, which was about $300 and another excursion which was $220.  If we went back, we wouldn’t bother with either–we are very happy being beach bums.  We spent another $220 on misc. stuff, primarily in the gift shop because my husband needed stronger sunscreen than what I bought and I ran out of reading material.  We could have easily avoided that cost!

I’m going to St. Lucia for my honeymoon in November if that helps. We are paying out of pocket $4000 which includes airfare but we also won part of our honeymoon at a bridal show so the honeymoon is really valued at $7000 for 7 day 6 nights at Calabash Cove all inclusive. I would go to a Sandals or somewhere more reasonably priced.

Book in advance. We went late September/early Oct., 10 days AI (Sandals Halycon) with round trip airfare booked from BOS and trip insurance (booked as a package through AAA) and paid $500. We spent about $250 on parasailing, touring the island, etc. We booked 9 months in advance and i checked the website several times in between but the price was never lower than what we paid. For 3500 you should be able to do 5-7 nights depending on room type and ressort (we noticed, among the Sandals properties sometimes Regency was cheaper but their  cheap rooms also sold out sooner). We also found that this was cheaper than the same trip at RIU Aruba during hurrican season. Buy good insurance, it’s worth the stress relief. Also, expect some rain this time of year but temps. were great overall.

we are going to St Lucia right after the wedding (early October) we are staying at the Sandles Halcyon resort for 7 nights including air it came to $5800- we are paying a little more for our room b/c our view is of the ocean & we can walk out right onto the beach. I heard the 2 other sandles resorts are a bit cheaper but haven’t really checked prices. We did buy trip insurance just in case anything happens we will be able to rebook at a later date.

St. Lucia is beautiful but is too expensive.  I thought about it but for the cost, I can go to another tropical island, stay at a 5 star resort and pay half the price.  Good Luck.

I still stand behind Aruba.  My company does business in the Caribbean and the two safest places for hurricane season are Aruba & Barbados.

We are going to Almond Morgan Bay at the end of October. It’s all inclusive, but it’s no Sandals. My fiance and I aren’t gonna be spending our days at a spa or anything like that, so we basically just need somewhere to sleep! We plan on doing one excursion a day so we’ll be gone from the resort a lot. Total airfare from Cleveland, Ohio to St. Lucia and the room for 7 days was around $4200.

Check it out if you’re still looking in St. Lucia!
