I love those colors together!
I'm making our cake, and a few other layer cakes. I'm doing buttercream frosting and probably a few real flowers on top. I'm still in the midst of trial cakes, so I haven't figured out my decorating limitations yet!
Cakes from grocery stores can be just as delicious! We haven't chosen our bakery yet, but I hadn't even thought about getting cake from Kroger or something. Thank you for the reminder of that option.
those are SO cute! my husband is a manager of a catering company (that in itself is AWESOME for our wedding! lol) and his boss does cakes as well - not super fancy - but simple. 3 tier square with a ribbon around it. this way we don't have to pay a bakery for our cake!
and i LOVE that third one!
my co worker has a family member who is retired and does cakes for hobby. ive seen some of her work and im very happy with it. she is making us a small two -tier fondant cake with strawberry filling. (SO EXCITED!) and then i am putting fresh flowers on it with our cake topper
Mmmm I love pretty much everything from Publix!!
A retired lady is making our cake right out of her house. 3 tier, white almond with raspberry filling and white buttercream icing. She makes a mean cake, and for super cheap!
My FMIL is baking our cake. We weren't going to have one except we still needed something to cut, so my FMIL said she'd be honoured if we let her do it. The pictures above are exactly what I'm having her make. Just smooth buttercream, ribbon and some flowers!
WOW! Thanks for the ideas! I never thought about having someone other than a bakery or a supermarket make the wedding cake! I will definitely try to find a baker, who makes cakes, to prepare our cake! Thanks!
Sunny Lee who owns Filgree Cakes in Irvine, CA. She used to be the pastry chef at the Ritz in Laguna Niguel and the Bellagio.
I totally suggest her to any So. Cal Bride.
I have never had Publix cake but I just might have to try it sometime! BTW, my husband's grandma lives down in Panama City!
A lady who is related to a friend of mines husband does cake decorating on the side out of her house and she making our cake for us.From a design that i drew up.
She even gave us an entire sample cake i am talking a two layer 8inch cake with some sample swirl & scroll work in our colors ...
I will be making my own cake. Yes I know... crazy, but hey to save a couple hundred bucks and being a pastry chef it's a no brainer!
My baking is AWESOME, better than any bakery goods I've ever had (and my family and friends agree), and I often dream of opening my own bakery, but unfortunately I just can't imagine baking my own cake the day before my wedding. So Vegan Treats (best vegan bakery in the east!) will be doing our cake. http://www.vegantreats.com/

I'm glad you found somewhere wonderful! Just wanted to add that I'm not making mine the day before, but a few days before and freezing it. Actual construction will be day of, but that's it.
We're having a cake buffet! We've asked 8 friends to bake their favourite cake, so we'll have tons of yummy cakes to eat!
We're having our favorite Baker do the honor of both wedding cake and grooms cake. We absolutely adore her. She's the best there is in a 30mile radius. When we picked our possible date we called her first to make sure she could do our date, otherwise we were picking a new date. She uses only butter cream and it still turns out prettier then any fondant cake I've ever seen. This picture is the test run cake she done for Mr JB & I. It has strawberry flilling
The fish cake is the first cake she ever done for us, as my brother's grooms cake (he works with the EPA on fish/lake/pond management) . The picture makes her work look shotty but in real life it looked almost real. My brother's groom's cake was even better then their wedding cake IMHO(done by another baker). This cake was gobbled up and people who attended their wedding still remember it.
Thanks for the advise, bees! I love the idea of having my cake making friends bake their favorite cakes! That's an awesome idea! That way I can cut costs on our cake and on the idea of a candy/dessert buffet.
We ordered our cake from a southern cuisine type restaurant called the Water Oak in Rutherfordton, NC, the same town we are getting married in. when we went for a tasting we tried the Coconut Rum, omg it was so moist and yummy! I would recommend them to anyone!

@MrsJellybean227: My FH would LOVE that cake!
I am getting mine thru a local bakery it had 15 5* reviews on the Bee and the tasting was YUMM
My cousin got married in Florida and had a Publix wedding cake...it was delicious! And actually very pretty looking.
FMIL & I are going to make the cheesecake (grooms cake) together :)
My sweet, awesome, wonderful aunty H (who used to be a baker/pastry chef) has offered to do cupcakes or whatever we decide on (if that is what we choose), She made 3 cakes (non-tiered) for my sister's wedding in '07 with buttercream frosting and they were YUMMY!
I am getting my cake and desserts from a local vendor my FI and I have frequented together. They have come to know us over the last few years and are scoring us a great deal.
I am making our cake myself due to allergy issues. If we had a vegan bakery within a 500km radius I would of considered that, but we don't. :(
I love those colors together...they're gorgeous! We're having ours made by a bakery.
I love hearing what everyone else is doing and I miss Publix so much there cakes were great. When I worked Disney...yes I'm one of those people lol..I'd bring em in all the time for little castmember get togethers. Any excuse for a Publix cake. So happy when I move to TN they have Publix
Anyways...either SIL's Mom will make the cake *she did the one at Bro & SIL wedding very nice* or my FI's sis who is SIL to Be bc she is a chef...so yay either way. Maybe with a peach filling???
My high school art teacher will most likely make mine! It'll be cheap, plus, here are some of her cakes...I'm so excited!!!
She doesn't own or even work in a bakery. Never has.
Just wanted to update. I made my cake and it was worth all the late nights before the wedding. FYI I don't think I was able to sleep anyway. I was so excited the night before! I'm so glad I did my own cake. I knew what I wanted the cake to look and taste like. Total no brainer for me to make my own.

Unlike most people, I'm not a pastries-type person! I'd rather have some hard candy rather than a cake or a pie! However, my favorite cake is Publix cake! They're not too sweet, not to tart! They are always just right! Well, as many of you might know, Publix is a supermarket here in Florida, similar to a Kroger! Even though I've never had one of their wedding cakes, I'm sure a Publix cake will be just as good as a cake made by a bakery.... Right? Where are you buying your cake?
Also, since my colors are tiffany blue and cherry, I would like those colors on my cake! What do you think?
