So FI and I were discussing wedding guests this weekend; specifically which of our single friends will receive a plus 1. On my side, I'm allowing my single BM a plus 1, but not my single friends not in the bridal party. FI wants to allow his single GM a plus 1 only if they bring a female guest. FI thinks the guys will end up just inviting a buddy and the invite would be wasted. So his brilliant idea is to address the invite as such "Chris Groomsman and Female Guest." Ok after I stopped laughing I told him that I don't think it's proper and if you are going to allow someone a plus one you cannot specify that it has to be female. So we are leaving it up to the Bee! What do you guys think about htis one?

OK, that's hilarious. No, you can't specify a gender. Also, it's REALLY pathetic for a heterosexual single male to bring a dude with him to a wedding.

No, I don't think that there is any other way to address it. I understand his reasoning though.

Lol.  You totally can't dictate what gender their guest has to be!  I understand him preferring a female, but as long as your friend is there, who he/she brings should matter much at all.  I have a friend who was gonna just come alone but I told him to bring his friend, who is a male.  It doesn't matter at all to me.  I just want my guests to have fun!

Guys are so funny! You definitely can't specify whether his plus 1 can be male or female!! That's up to the guests discretion! :)

The only thing I can think of is to put "and date" instead of "and guest" but that still doesn't work fully

no straight, socially correct, sport loving, self respecting dude will willingly come to a wedding with a guy in tow UNLESS he has made it ABUNDANTLY clear that its just his "dude" friend. lol. Don't dictate gender, like Jennifer pointed out, dudes will choose NOT to come first before they had to drag another dude to a wedding.
