Im currently scouting DOC's and I was just wondering how many brides really use these services.
budget willing, i really want a DOC.
i think i can handle the actual planning, DIYing projects, researching and booking venues on my own ( with the help of my mom ), but whenever i picture the actual wedding day i get REALLY nervous about logistics..being on time..coordinating all the vendors...etc. A DOC would ease my mind a great deal and be worth every penny in my eyes.
I'm using a DOC. On the day of, I don't want to be organizing anything or stressing out over anything.
We are meeting with one tomorrow! I didn't think we would - we were planning on having a family member coordinate the day of, but things are really getting out of control and so we are opting to hire one. She will be a "week of" coordinator, with 4 on-site meetings and unlimited phone calls and emails. I'm sooo thrilled!!
We didn't need either. Thankfully the location was able to set things up for us and since they were a restaurant, they knew what to do the food!
Sorry to be naive but I'm not sure what the abbreivs in the poll stand for (I'm new here!). However, we get a co-ordinator on the day with most of the venues we are looking at :)
@ asb...you're so lucky!
@ danielle....I didn't think we would either but man I don't wanna be stressed on the day of.
Oh, just figured it our Day of Co-ordinator and Wedding Planner - I'm getting good at this!
I'm using a DOC who is highly recommended and affordable for the services she provides. I don't want to be worried about anything the day of
Our reception facility has a person who basically acts like a coordinator - following up with musicians, photographer, etc to make sure everyone knows when to arrive. She also handles the coordination of the day of. I'm happy we don't need to hire someone else!
I HIGHLY recommend a DOC. We loved ours and she helped make our day so easy and relaxing. I didn't have to worry about anything because I knew she was taking care of EVERY detail. One of my BMs attended another wedding a couple of weeks later (who didn't have a DOC) and said the stress level between me and the other bride was off the charts different.
I took care of visualizing design elements, finding and contracting with vendors, etc... but she helped to execute everything the day of, manage the timeline and vendors as well as run the rehearsal on Friday and it was worth every penny we spent.
I have a Wedding Coordinator, best money I've ever spent, hands down.
We have a DOC and she is already proving her she is worth her weight in gold!! (and the wedding is still 6months away!)
I have hired a DOC. She has been great so far and I know she will really help out during the wedding. In my opinion, best money spent so far!
Also, our venue does provide a planner, but I don't expect her to anything except take care of the venue issues and food-really that's her job. A DOC will make sure that everything comes together and that all runs smoothly with vendors. I would not expect that your venue coordinator will do all of that for you unless it is specified in your contract.
I would also check out wedding planners in your area. I found that a lot of them have DOC packages as well as wedding planner packages.
My venue also supplies a coordinator. So I guess she's sort of a DOC? I dunno. lol
It might not be a lot to some people, but we're spending our hard-earned money on this wedding and I can't justify spending all this money, and doing all this planning, not to be able to enjoy it.
Our coordinator is doing a week-of package; starting the week of the wedding, she will be the go-to for all our vendors and can coordinate hotel arrivals and arrange transport for out-of-town guests and all that. Whew! I feel reassured just thinking about it. :)
Since we're having two wedding ceremonies & receptions, we agreed the expense is NECESSARY. For our Disney event, Disney handles everything & I am just stress free about that whole day: flowers, food, music, everything (!) totally put together & handled by our planner (who has done a great job of personalizing the event to our theme). As for our church/champagne & cake event, we're doing the shopping around, but hiring a DOC to make everything run smoothly. I love not having to worry about timing or vendors or directing guests...so worth it to enjoy our day & our loved ones.
We're hiring a day-of coordinator but not a wedding planner. I got lassoed in to being a day-of coordinator at an aunt's wedding a few years ago and I hated the experience so much that I would never put any of our guests through that. Plus, I wasn't able to enjoy the reception at all for that reason since I wasn't able to sit down and breathe at any point. However, neither of us want someone else planning the wedding for us as their ideas of what we should and shouldn't include don't fit our ideas of what we want and don't and what is best for our guests.
I checked "none", but I want to elaborate. My venue has a wedding coordinator, so he will pretty much play the role of DOC on our wedding day. He won't be responsible for things that don't have to do with the venue -- like making sure people are on time or that I have food while I'm getting ready before the wedding... but he will be on top of everything that has to do with the site and the setup. Basically, he sees it as his job to make sure that everything at the wedding goes over without a hitch. With all of that help included, it seemed like a waste of $$ to hire a DOC.
How many months before the wedding should i be booking my DOC? I started doing research on who I would like to find out more about but I havent started making phone calls
@zippylef You may want to check to see what the venue coordinator will actually do vs. what you may NEED done. Our reception venue had an on-site person as well but wouldn't do nearly everything we would have wanted (i.e. assist w/ decor set-up, etc...) so it made sense to hire someone else.
@Chillybear...For an August wedding I would start looking to book now, the good books get booked up early just like photographers, bands/DJs, etc... because most DOC also have full-blown wedding planning packages so someone could book your date for a full package or just DOC.
Chillybear- I would start researching and making phone calls now. I am sure DOCs are already filling up their summer dates.
We didn't use one. But if anyone needs help here in Central FL and has no budget...holla! I (duh!) love weddings and would love to help =)
I have a DOC plus I guess. I just signed a DOC and added on design service for flowers, rentals, and decor. I'm so excited! I sent them an inspiration board for the design theme and colors and I can't wait to see what they come up with. My venue is a blank slate so it was kind of intimidating to plan decor for it from a distance. In terms of the DOC all the advice I've gotten is that is absolutely worth it.
I'm going to use a friend of mine who has done DOC wedding stuff before. I've heard that it is a HUGE help!!
Wish we had the money for it, but the budget is tight as it is. We have a pretty thorough church coordinator and have an on-site coordinator, so I hope it all works out. We're trying to do as much ahead of time as possible to avoid day of stressors. Wish us luck!
I had a DOC and met with her twice beforehand to work out table arrangements, timelines, etc. She was such a help the day of working with the vendors and getting them set up.
they were too expensive for me and still wouldn't have been much help so I didnt have either.
We're getting either a DOC or a month of, depending on how much packages run.
Oh gosh, our budget is bursting at the seams. No DOC or WP for me. : T
We hired a planner. We are both super busy, and I loved the idea of someone working along side me through the whole thing. we have saved so much money with her - she knows the ins and outs of the industry so well and gets discounts from a ton of vendors.
she is also doing our wedding design - she developes a design based on us as a couple and incorporates a ton of amazing little details into the design. out wedding will look more like "us" than if we planned it our selves! she rocks!
I kind of have both, but they come with my venue. The staff includes wedding coordinators who keep pretty detailed notes on everything, and they provide a DOC as well. If I didn't have either, I would want a DOC, but not a planner - I can do that myself.
We met with our wedding coordinator today, and I am already so relieved! Figuring out the logistics of getting all our little DIY projects set up would have been such a headache. Now we can just enjoy the wedding day! I feel like, why spend all that money on your wedding but not the little extra to make sure it runs smoothly for your guests and you can enjoy it?
Our reception venue has a coordinator and the caterer we chose has worked closely with that venue/coordinator for several years, so I am not worried. I also plan to hire a good dj to keep things on track.
We are using a DOC. I actually found her from Craigslist for a couple hundred dollars! I'm pretty excited because we originally didn't have room in our budget for a coordinator at all. And she has been awesosome so far- sooo helpful. :)
@ jyng....ha ha me too!! i also found my photog there....craigslist rocks!!
We didn't have a DOC and it is LITERALLY the biggest regret of my wedding.
