I'm going fake all the way. I bought a white rose ponytail holder from KMart for $2.50 added some Guinea Hen feathers and glued on some alligator clips to the back. All total it cost me about $6.00. I've seen some gorgeous fake flowers on Etsy but nearly died when I saw the price.
I used fake flowers - one white one similar to grumpybear and the other was a silk rose from Micheals with the stem removed (sssh - don't tell anyone!). My dad thought the Michael's rose was real and was confused as to why it hadn't died after sitting on a table for a few weeks.
I'm going to use a fake flower, I bought a few at Michael's to try out and toy with. I figured real flowers might get a little beat up spending the whole day in my hair, and this way I could make sure I had exactly what I wanted.
hey thats a brilliant idea! im going to head over to michaels right now to check! did you add some sort of clip or something to it so it would stay in your hair? and about etsy...i know what you mean. i pretty much fell in love with one there...but come on $56! not my kind of thing.
Check out esty, they have some GORGEOUS flower clips there. I Just posted a few on my blog, these were more "flower and feather" dodads. Urban outfitters also has some. Flower accents are really trendy now so you can find something that is elegant rather quickly.
I'm going fake as well. I found 6 that I love on Etsy and will be taking those pictures with me as inspiration when I go shoping. I can create beautiful invitations, but I think I would be a hot mess trying to make a flower for my hair! haha!
Personally, I am not wearing a flower-real or fake-in my hair. My mother and I are seriously allergic to bees, so I am not taking any chances with attacting the buggers before or after the ceremony. If I were, I would go fake. There are so many lovely options out there, which means finding something you like and no worries. Good luck with your decision.
hmmmm....this is tough. i have found a couple really gorgeous hair flowers fro etsy but my wedding is in about a month and i would love to get to hair flower asap. i think im going to head over to michaels again and check out some of your ideas. i wonder if it would be super hard to add a feather or some cute beads...hmmm...or maybe i should just make my own. do any of you girls know how to do this?
im wearing a birdcage veil and am currently torn between a feather fascinator i ordered from etsy and a fresh flower to better match the flowers my BMs will be wearing in their hair (but a different color)....
Faux flowers for hair all the way! I wouldn't want to worry about the durability of the fake flower....
I'm thinking about getting a real gardenia for my hair. It will smell so good I won't have to worry about whether my deoderant has conked out halfway through the reception. I still need to talk to the florist about how well it will hold up, but I haven't worried a whole lot about it. If it dies, I'll take it out.
I'm wearing a real daisy in my hair. I figure if it starts to look "sad" I'll just stick another one in as a back-up. (I suppose this wouldn't work well for intricate hair designs, though.)
I wore a deep red rose in my hair when I got married. It was soooo beautiful and simple. Have you heard of 'Black Magic Roses'? That's what I wore. It help up very well and lasted throghout the event. It helps if your wedding is at night or in fairly cool weather. If it's going to be hot, go with fake.
I'm going to wear a veil alone during the ceremony, and then replace it with a faux flower from muscar designs. I wanted something really soft and light, and most of the silk flowers at my Michaels looked too stiff. While I love the idea of real flowers in the hair, they don't all have the support to stay in place, and I would hate for them to look brown and wilty at the end of the night.
i'm planning on wearing a real gardenia in my hair, but am considering a fake flower because it will last longer. also, twigs & honey, oh my deer, and tarina tarantino have so many pretty choices.
I got a hair flower from dkdesignshawaii on etsy...it clay...the same person who made mrs. pineapples flowers. it looks great...
I'm going with fake. I absolutely love japanese kanzashi and will be incorporating elements inspired by geisha hair ornaments. I'm probably going to go with silk white gardenia with crystal center bits and maybe pearl petal drops.
check out butterfly enchantress on etsy. She makes hairpieces using fake flowers but they look and feel real. I bought mine there and since she has a "no return" policy, I was a bit nervous about it, but its gorgeous and so much better than I expected. I highly recommend her. Best of luck!!
I am also going fake. I found the etsy seller BrendasBridalVeils and found am amazing fascinator (see attached). I love how it has a touch of funkiness that goes well with my style. If you haven't already checked out esty.com, go take a peek. You will be surprised what great things you will find.
I'm going fake with one of Muscari's Designs. Simple yet so elegant!
RoddyBride09, I ordered that same flower for another event! I got it made without the streamers, and can't wait to wear it :)

im trying to debate with a real flower in my hair vs. a fake one. i love the idea of having a real flower. but im kind of skeptical to 1) it dying sometime during the wedding 2)it staying securely in my hair! what are you girls doing? and if your doing a fake one...where are you buying it from?
thanks bees!
