right now i am really loving avina valenta. here are two dresses of hers im in love with! whos your fav?
For me it changes all the time, but my standbys are Oscar De La Renta, Carolina Herrara, Vera Wang, and Christos. Also love anything Sarah Seven. (My dress is Christos.)
One of my favs is Pro Novias, I was convinced I would buy one of their dresses, but it didn't happen. I went with an Allure dress instead. I wish there had been a Pro Novias store here like in NY. Oh well...I still love my dress.
So, my dress is by Pnina Tornai, and there is NOTHING that compares to it in my mind. It is the most magnificent thing I have ever seen. I loved it before I even had an idea of how much the average wedding dress cost, who the heck Pnina Tornai was, or how crazy expensive her dresses were. But I've got to say that she is, in general, NOT my favorite dress designer. She's done a lot of gorgeous dresses with incredible details, but her see-through corset/chaotic pile of tulle miniskirt monstrosities are unforgivable imo. I will NOT be mentioning that when she does my measurements by hand for my dress, though! :P
So who would I pick as my favorite designer, in general? Well, I tend to think Monique Lhullier's dresses are extremely beautiful. I also love Claire Pettibone's earthy, uber-romantic and feminine designs, and tried on a whole bunch before sadly realizing they were just too casual for my wedding (though I was sold on my Pnina the whole time). I also REALLY adore the designs of the somewhat eccentric Spanish designers Victorio and Lucchino. I'm going to be trying on a few more (I already tried on one of their awesome designs!) before making the downpayment on my Pnina...just to be sure!
I love Pronovias because their dresses are just super romantic. All the ruffles and the soft curves... ahhh... super dreamy. I'm a big fan of Spanish fashion so that might explain it!
I also love Monique Lhuillier's gowns. Her gowns have very simple silhouttes but very tastefully done. She has a knack of putting teeny details that make the dress super elegant.
I LOVE pronovias. It's also something that can be afforded by many people with many dresses in the sub and close $1000 range.
In the higher end, Jim Hjelm is a top fave
oh man, I fall in love with pretty much every Amsale gown I see. *sigh* they're just so ... feminine!
For me, it is definitely either Liancarlo or Claire Pettibone. :-)
Priscilla Of Boston. (Of course I'm biased, I'm in love with my dress!)

My other favorite designers that were top contenders are:
Melissa Sweet

Le Spose Di Gio (adore this dress)

And last but not least, Claire Pettibone

Maggie Sottero and Priscilla of Boston (especially the Vineyard line)
Lazaro, the designer of my dress :) I became a fan after seeing his dresses in person.
Other favorites are Monique Lhuillier and Elie Saab. I love delicate hand-embroidery, ornate details, lots of lace and romantic touches; and these three designers deliver all of that. Simple dresses are not my cup of tea; I think a wedding dress ought to make a statement and be the most stunning, special dress you'll ever wear.
If I could have chosen a true designer gown, I probably would have chosen an Amsale gown. So many are gorgeous. I also love Christos, Reem Acra, etc.
Christos, Amsale, Priscilla of Boston's Vineyard Line... yum!
Rivini... all the dresses that I LOVED when I tried on were in that line, but I didn't get any of them because I couldn't let myself spend that much on it.
If I could've afforded any dress, ever, it would've been this beautiful liancarlo:

Augusta Jones...not very well-known but her dresses are beautiful, perfectly made and very reasonably priced.
Lazaro for me!! but I can't afford the one I'm in love with.. =(
I have recently become a huge fan of Jim Hjelm. I love their bridal, bridesmaids and flower girl dresses! And I love all the accessories they use too lol
Romona Keveza, Amsale, Jim Hjelm, Christos, Maggie Sottero, and Enzoni. Tooooo many. :)
Alvina Valenta love here, but a bit beyond my price range. Ditto for Melissa Sweet. Went with a Pronovias, and am very happy.
Oh God, I cannot stop at one. Though if it is just the one probably Lhullier. Also love Elizabeth Fillmore, Jenny Packham, Claire Pettibone
I love love love Pronovias, and also St Patrick, La Sposa and Aire. Basically, Spanish designs. They're lovely <3
i love maggie sottero gowns. they are so amazing and cant wait to wear mine!! :)
meliss--I'm with you on the simple dresses thing! They certainly aren't for me either. I love intricate clothing, and I've had so many awesome dresses in my life that my wedding dress had to be something down-right extraordinary!
I love Benjamin Roberts he has a number of ranges - here is mine!!
I heart Mikaella & Paloma Blanca!!! Of course, I never bothered to even check out designers way outside my budget, so I have no idea about some of the really high end dresses.
I absolutely love Alvina Valenta, and if it isn't that designer, it would definitely be Kenneth Pool
:)
