I like mine better because even though it's the most common Korean last name (something like 25% of Koreans have the last name Kim), it's a part of my cultural background.  Even though 80%+ of people think my last name is my first name, I still like it.

There's nothing wrong with Mr. Bee's last name, but whenever I say it, people think it's another popular last name that it rhymes with, and they usually spell it with a "y" instead of an "i".

Ultimately I changed my last name because I wanted our entire family to have the same last name, but I still like mine better.

What about you?  Do you like his last name better or yours?  Why?

I like mine better because it is unique (and yes, people say it wrong too) and is very cultural. I am excited to be a Mrs. FI's Last Name though!

I like my last name a TON better.  His is so so common and mine has a lot of family heritage behind it.  Plus all my nicknames from friends involve my last name and it fits so well, I love the meaning of it, etc etc.  I'm SO attached.

So of course, I still haven't decided exactly what to do :)

Mr. Dan has a TERRIBLE last name... and he get so offended when I say that I'd rather keep mine. Does anyone else have this issue?

I like both our last names and they are both "cultural" - one is Irish and the other is Swedish. His is shorter and much easier to pronouce, which is a good thing. Plus, it makes my initals "CDN" so I can say I'm tried and true Canadian. (haha.)

Can I say neither? :) We both have last names that are difficult for people to pronounce and very easily misspelled. I use my middle name for business so I will continue to do so after we get married. I'm taking his name because like Mrs. Bee, I like the idea of our family all having the same last name but I'm really just trading apples for apples. Haha!

Yup I use my maiden name for everything.  My last name is changed on paper, but I don't use it personally or professionally.

I like both. They are both unique. Mine is German and his is Romanian. I will be taking his because I too want our family to have the same name and there are plenty of males in my family to carry on the name. Besides, his name will put me at the front of the alphabet instead of towards the end! Whose last name do you like better -- his or yours? : wedding last name name surname Icon Wink

I was thinking of doing the opposite, to save on passports etc. Use his but legally be still just me. Anyone else doing that?

Mine is too Mexican, plus about 70% of hispanics have my last name, his is totally Irish so I will stick with his plus makes my name sound exotic along with his last name.

I like mine better, I think my first and last name sound a little more melodic than my first name and his last name. Mine is way more common than his but I don't really mind. Plus my last name starts with an "A" and I always like being first

I like mine way better!  His is twice as long and he always has to spell it.  Mine isn't too common, but it's a boy's first name so it's easy enough for people to spell.

I am going to change my name to his though.  Like another poster said, he was actually upset when I joked that I would keep my name.  My new last name begins with the last letter of my first name, so they sort of run into each other.  Like my mom's grade school friend, Frances Snyder - my mom thought her name was Frances Nyder for YEARS!!

I love my maiden name because I never have to spell it.  My first name is so unique that it's tough enough having to spell out 8 letters.

But, I hated that my first name ends with an n and my maiden name started with an n.  It didn't flow.

Even though ny husband's last name is hard to spell/pronounce, it's beautiful and I wanted it to be the same.

I like both our names, actually, although I don't like his last name after my first name. I think I'm going to keep my name as a buffer, if I tack his on at all, like vistagirl.

I like his WAY better. My parents couldn't have forseen that people would pair my last name with my first name and call me a very common, popular girls' first name...that isn't mine. Sheesh. With his last name, I anticipate being called my first name correctly much more often. :)

Our last names are both very common and plain, so it won't make a huge difference to me.  Mr. Chai has an Irish last name, and here in Boston, probably the most Irish-populated city in the US, I swear one in every ten people has his last name. But I do like his last name and intend to change my name.

One thing, though...my maiden name is Campbell, and I will sincerely miss saying "Campbell, like the soup," whenever someone asks for my last name, hahaha.

We both have unique last names, while at first I wasn't fond of giving up my last name just out of identity issues, I have made the change, but kept my former last name as my middle name, it makes me feel better about the issue ;)

I kind of like his better because it's hard to mispronounce it. My last name RARELY gets pronounced correctly, so hopefully after we're married I won't have to deal with it anymore!!!

I like my last name better. It will be hard for me to give up my last name- since it is obviously hispanic while my fiancé's name is clearly chinese. :o( I would like to hyphenate it. But like many other ladies out there, they want their last name to be the same as the kids... Then again, perhaps my poor children will suffer the hispanic way of having every single family last name of origin following their first name (I'm totally kidding- don't jump on me.)

I actually really love his last name, but he does not, and he doesn't have a relationship with his dad - so it's not a name I want to pass on to our kids.  I'm very attached to my own last name (as I legally took my mom's maiden name four years ago, so it really is a name of my own choosing), and have been trying to get him to take my name when we get married - but he doesn't like how his first name sounds with my last name! So we're at a bit of an impass right now :(

I like mine better.  Theres alot of history behind my last name , and nothat his name isn't nice ut it dosn't flow very nice with my first name.  I'm taking his name as my last now , but just adding it on.

I'm like a lot here...I like mine better - but mainly because I'm HUGE into my genealogy and can trace back my paternal line 10 generations!!!!!!

Plus, while mine is semi-common, his is fairly common - which I'm actually looking forward to because while I love my last name, it's ALWAYS butchered by people trying to pronounce it (when it sounds exactly like it looks!!!! grrr!!!!)

but once I change my name to his, it'll be SO much easier to just SAY our last name and have people know how to spell it!

plus, it's a little shorter than my maiden name and I already have a VERY long signature because I have a hyphenated first name!!!!

I love our last names equally!

Both are very European (mine is French, his is Dutch) and both always get mucked up in pronunciation! His is way more unique than mine though... so bonus points there! ;)

I definitely like his last name more than mine!

My last name always confused people growing up - plus I'm really not that close with my dad, or any of his side of the family.  If my maiden name were the same as my mom's, I'd have a much more difficult time deciding between her maiden name and my future last name!

Hands down, mine is much better than his!  His last name is French Canadian, but it sounds harsh & German.  People are always asking how to spell it, but it is so easy.  My last name is not the easiest to say, but it flows & is upper class Irish, so that's kinda fun!

My last name is a very common last name. It is probably like top 3 most common in the U.S. and fhs last name is german and long and just sounds weird with my first name. I really want to take his last name but I dunno it just sounds weird.

That's a tough question. Mine is super unique and identifiable. I never liked it growing up because its long and sounds funny. But now I'm having trouble with the idea of parting with it.

Mr. G's last name is very common and short. I like the simplicity of it, but it sounds funny with my first name. We are still undecided as to what to do.
