My fiance and I have had sex for the past two nights, after a verrrrrry long hiatus (he was sick and unable to). It was painful for me at the beginning, which I’ve experienced before when it’s been a long time in between. But yesterday I was in pain afterwards, as well — and then today, I was spotting a bit (it’s definitely not my period).
Has anyone else experienced this? Why is it happening? (This might be a very stupid question, but can your hymen re-grow?)

It’s happened to me quite a few times, even with no gaps inbetween. Every woman’s body is different and handles sex in different ways. Sometimes he just goes too deep and it causes it to bleed a little. Try using extra lube or asking him to be a little more gentle until you feel 100%. It’s actually really common for this to happen, so don’t feel weird 🙂

@likelimeade: It may be as simple as you two were a little rough or that your body just wasn’t used to any activity after a long hiatus (especially two days in a row). This isn’t to say that it’s bad that youguys had sex at all. Sometimes this happens. This happened to me several years ago and it just turned out that it was either too rough or my body wasn’t used to it (or a combo). Are you still in pain today? If you’re only spotting a little and not too concerned, keep an eye on it but it’s probably fine (this isn’t medical advice). You can call your doctor on Monday if you are still concerned just to get their opinion (unless you’re in pain, I wouldn’t suggest running out to the ER). And your hymen can’t re-grow (At least that i’ve heard of – so I’m sure there may have been situations where it has). However, it also can depend on how active you’ve been – if you haven’t done much sexually, sometimes the hymen isn’t fully broken.

It happens, especially if its been a little while! Also if your on contraceptives, some times your lining can be thin, causing some spotting.

DH and I are in an LDR and after we go a few weeks/months apart, I typically bleed a bit the first time we have sex. It’s annoying, but I spoke to my gyno about it, and she said it’s rather common. Every woman’s body handles it differently.

I dont want to freak you out but years ago I had a problem bleeding after sex and when I went for a cervical smear it was abnormal and I had to have a lot of treatment. Since then everything has been fine.

I bleed sometimes after sex (it used to happen everytime, but now it’s only occasionally). I think it’s to do with FH hitting my cervix/causing microtears in my vaginal vault/opening. Doesn’t happen much now because we’ve gotten better at foreplay and finding positions that are comfortable for both of us.

I tend to get little tears at the opening when DH and I do it, which bleeds a little and can be sore for a couple of days.
