I hear ya! I just lurk on the baby threads, but all the acronyms confuse me…CM, BFP, OPK, BD…so confusing, lol.

Totes agree. And the “windows” and “TWW”, and all. Sheesh.

@hilsy85: I still don’t know what most of those things mean – nor do you need to in order to get pregnant πŸ™‚  I never even heard of the Two Week Wait before I was preggo.

@Sunchick19: Ok, phew! I was thinking I needed to brush up on that stuff before pulling the goalie, but glad to hear that it’s not necessary πŸ™‚

I think if you’re “letting nature take it’s course” then you probably don’t need to worry about most of that stuff. That’s only if you’re actively trying and want to know when the best times are to get pregnant or if you’ve have difficulty conceiving and need to track things because you’re working with your doctor.

I didn’t know what any of it was till after I was pregnant and started reading the baby boards (of course we got pregnant the first month so I didn’t have to do any of that). The only thing I used was the “My Days” app (for Android), so once I was off the pill I knew when to expect my period – it also tells you estimated time for ovulation too (but only if you have a normal cycle).

@cheert16:

Here are some:

TTC=trying to conceive

TWW=two week wait (time after ovulation before you can take a pregnancy test)

AF=Aunt Flo (e.g. menstrual period)

BBT=basal body temperature (used to calculate a woman’s fertile days)

BCP=birth control pill

BFN=big fat negative (on a pregnancy test) & BFP=big fat positive (pregnancy test),

CM=cervical mucous (conducts sperm to the egg)

DPO=days past ovulation

HPT=home pregnancy test

LMP=last menstrual period (start date)

POAS=pee on a stick (e.g. take a pregnancy test)

RE=reproductive endocrinologist

TCOYF=Taking Charge of Your Fertility (book by Toni Weschler about natural methods to achieve and avoid pregnancy, see resources below)

I can add a few more!

OPK – Ovulation Predictor Kit

DB – Baby Dance (aka have sex)

There are a handful I’ve seen on the infertility thread too that are just applicable to their various treatments so those shouldn’t be applicable to you yet!
