...one of those women who looks fresh as a daisy 24/7?

This morning, my hair was freshly washed and styled, and my foundation was even and smooth.

Now, my hair is a friggin' rat's nest and I look like I have zero makeup on.

I've spent the last 8 hours at a desk. I haven't run a marathon or wrestled any alligators. WHY do I look like a total mess?

Can anyone relate, or am I the only one?

I always look worst after a day at work. Ugh.

Wish I could answer how to do it, but I'm not one of those girls. :)

HAHAHA - Dana - alligator wrestling! I'm the same way. I use my after work alone time before my husband gets home to not only straighten the kitchen, but fix my face! Even if it's just a quick face wash with an olay wipe thing and to re-curl my eyelashes. Desk sittin' really messes with me. I can look good all day on a Saturday ;)

I am right there with you - especially on the days where I need to go attend a c-section (I am an NICU nurse, and we go to the higher-risk deliveries and c-sections) - nothing messes with your hair and makeup more than a scrub cap and a face mask!

LOL. I sit at a desk and I STILL look "not fresh" after 8 hours. Sometimes i bring makeup with me to work and touch up or I look like i had a romp in the back on my lunch break. Even though I wear waterproof mascara and liner. The liner still smudges off. Boo. Hair's not a problem for me--it's up in a bun today =]. And i keep a plethora of pins in my desk and slide them in throughout the day.

I feel ya on that! If I spend any amount of time sitting inside, my styling goes kaput. I look better after gardening for two hours with no makeup on than I do when I get dolled up and sit in AC for six hours. Go figure.

I know exactly what you mean! I would always go to work feelin fancy and confident and then I would get home and look in the mirror and think "holy cow what happened?!" I've tried to buy make-up that's supposed to last all day, but i've yet to find anything that actually does :(

I totally feel ya there. The only saving grace is that I go to the gym during lunch so I get a do-over shower and I get to do my hair again.

Also, if you wrestle and alligator and all that happens is your hair gets messed up, it's been a good day. :-)

I work at a desk too.  I looked pretty good this morning I thought.  I just had a mandatory staff meeting and was asked if I was sick.  :( I'm not.

I thought I was the only one! This never seems to happen to anyone around me. Maybe that means no one notices when it happens to us? I can dream, right?

I'm with  ya'll. I always wish I could be some cute fresh faced girl.. but I'm not. I don't even wear makeup, once a year or so I'll go to the store and decide I"m going to start and I"m going to do my hair everyday, you can guess how long that lasts.

    me too girls!!

I don't feel good leaving the house until I have applied a strong base of foundation and blush!

I also am suffering from dry eyes so have to put drops in my eyes every 2 hours while at work. By the end of the day my eye makeup is ALL over the place and I look like a racoon!

I work at the gym and sometimes have to demonstrate exercises to clients or do them with the client to push them through the last set...sweat dripping into your eyes stings but when you add make up to the mix....ouch!

My makeup always looks bad by about 3 pm.  I keep trying to tell myself I should take an afternoon walk, touch up my makeup and come back to work - and yet I never make it away from the desk for that long.  Sigh....

Me! I don't get how so people stay so fresh.

My hair is really thin, so it gets tousled really easily. Which means I'm always having to fix it. Plus, my face flushes easily, and that makes it look gross.

I have super oily skin, not to mention acne and breakouts. When you have skin like mine, "looking fresh as a daisy" even TWO hours after the makeup goes on is practically a fantasy.

Sigh. I know exactly how you feel. I teach and when I come home I'm like.... "wasn't I wearing make-up today? Didn't I do my hair?" I just worry about pictures come wedding time... I need to find a make-up that will actually stay on ALL day and look fresh. That's life, I suppose.

That "rats nest" comment made me laugh dana.

    I have T-Zone issues.  Ick!

For anyone else with oily skin, the next time you go to Starbucks or any place that has those brown recycled napkins grab a bunch.  They're known for sopping oil right up w/out disturbing your makeup like rice paper does.  Read it in a magazine and tried it.  It works.

yep , me too! my hair gets ratty & my make-up should be a magician because it disappears so easy.

i'll leave the apt in the morning and think "ok, not bad i guess"... by lunch i go to the bathroom at work, look in the mirror and i have never looked paler, zitty-er, or greasier. GROSS.

    sigh.

I think you are describing me!  Seriously though, I don't know how people do it.  I would have to completely remove my makeup, wash my face, re-apply and redo my hair halfway through the day to make it to the end looking fresh. :(

the make up thing... little tip i learned for partially stocking women who always look great... pack some blotters in your purse, some pressed powder/concealer, some mascara touch up your hair and pretend all your doing is taking a bathroom break haha... hard part is actually doing it... i get lazy and decide ill just do it again in the morning... plus i hate humidity my hair fluffs up like bozo the clown.... which is what i was called in school cause it rhymes with my last name... Raposo :( thank god for frizz ease though... just hope it doesnt rain may 21st 2011

As you can see, you are not alone. I am the same way and I too work at a desk. My hair falls limp and the curls undo themselves and the makeup is nearly gone. When I get home and catch myself in the mirror, I am frightened. Can you say dark circles?

As someone who's gone to work... a) with my shirt on backwards, b) with the tags still on my new outfit [fully visible to all] and c) wearing one green and one black shoe [hey, I got dressed in the dark!] I totally sympathize. At least I didn't do a, b, and c all in one day. And I caught myself before I left the house in just tights and a slip but no skirt.

I think the myth of the perfectly put-together woman is just that ... a myth. I suppose they exist, but they're more rare than a unicorn and they probably don't feel they're that way even if we think they are. For the rest of us ... well, we get by and hardly anyone notices those things that feel completely glaring to us.

The eye-rubbing is a problem, though. Some days I'm about to call Wildlife Control to report a rabid raccoon when I realize I'm looking in the mirror and I've been rubbing mascara all over my face again. How do you solve that? Mittens?

jadeblue, I loled when I read the comment about mittens!

I have actually gotten so embarrassed about how bad I look at the end of the day (eye makeup worn off, no lipstick, hair a mess, shiny face, etc) that I try to reapply at my desk during the day, especially before I have a meeting. If you take just a minute to throw on some fresh powder and lip gloss it goes a long way!

I do have a couple makeup recommendations, though, that may help you stay glamorous all day!

    - Eyeshadow primer- I swear by the stuff. One of my friends introduced me to it and now I NEVER EVER apply eyeshadow without using it first. I use Too Faced Shadow Insurance. It's $17 at Sephora, but it makes me stay looking fresh all day long and that's priceless.

    - Tube technology mascara- this stuff sounds super weird if you haven't tried it but I am so in love with it! Basically you put it on like normal (after you wash your face but before moisturizer is best) and let it dry for a minute, and it creates little tubes around your eyelashes. It's very water-resistant, and won't come off very easily if you rub your eyes, yet it's not difficult to take off either. In truth I have found it comes off a bit on my lower lashes during the day but doing a quick check when leaving the bathroom is way better than doing a double take as you're leaving the bathroom because you look like Zorro.

    - Foundation primer is great and will help your foundation and concealer stay on all day long. I had a sample of Laura Geller's Spackle (which sephora.com isn't stocking right now, apparently) and it worked pretty well, although I am still looking for one that might be a little more lightweight.

    - other essentials for your purse beauty kit- oil-blotting sheets, a lipstick, a lip gloss, and a good eyepencil (my eyelids get red when I'm tired, if I throw on just a little dark eye pencil I look so much more awake!!)
