Why do all the nice settings have simulated diamonds?

In what context?  If it’s the display rings in stores, it’s to make it harder to break the case and steal a ton of diamonds. If it’s online, I don’t know where you’re looking.

@SmileyKitty:   just curious, how can you tell from an online photo?  I was under the impression that even many jewelers can’t tell when they see rings in person without a loop or a diamond detector.  I do notice that lots of settings look like drawings on-line.  Javda.com, for example, looks like drawings but their Facebook page has hundreds of actual photos.

@SmileyKitty:  You can order a setting without a stone. That way, you get the setting you want and also get to pick the details of the diamond. Or you can go the custom route and design something totally unique! Buying rings as-is has never appealed to me.

Edit: Just saw your post about looking on eBay. You could order the ring with the simulant and have a jeweler take the stone out and replace it with a diamond.

@SmileyKitty:  Probably the majority of people looking for jewelry on Etsy or eBay aren’t willing to pay thousands of dollars for something handmade or second hand. So for the sellers, it’s not worth it to invest in making pieces that may not sell. So they use the less expensive stones to reduce the price, which would make the people looking for a budget friendly shiny more willing to buy one.

What kind of setting are you looking for?  Maybe someone here can help you find something with a diamond.

@SmileyKitty:  If you check any major retailer you will not have that as a problem.  I bought my ring online and didn’t encounter that too often and I went with a sim for my center stone.
