I definitely agree, though I imagine a good reason is because it decreases actual comments and participation.

Had this thought before, too.  But maybe it should be a “+1” button because there seems to be a lot of people that use that as “agree”

There are several threads about this in the Ideas section.  You might comment on one of those and bring it back to the top.  The tech/admin team does look at those things and many times will take ideas off of there when it is time for upgrades to the site.

I think a “like” button would be cool.

Because it’s not facebook, which is why I prefer it.

@AmeliaBedelia:  I don’t think it would decrease participation. People who want to say something will still say something. But I think there are a lot of “lurkers” or less active members who won’t comment anyway but would use a “like” button.

A like or +1 button would be nice so long as I could be convinced that it wouldn’t decrease people actually commenting.

@redheadem:  Maybe, but just based on Facebook (since that’s obviously the example) it seems to happen. The best example would be when people post their big “We’re engaged!” or “We’re pregnant!” statuses, they get a huge number of likes and less than 1/3 of that number in comments. Before the “like” stuff, those people would have added their “Congratulations!” to the mix, not just “Liked” it. I think having to comment if you want to contribute is what keeps a lot of threads going. Of course, this isn’t based on any sort of “fact” but just my observations and opinion.

I can see both sides. I think a +1 would be best, for comments. A lot of threads would fall off the first page quickly and a lot of recaps or announcements may be missed though.

@Mrs.KMM:  I was just thinking of the +1 thing when I saw your post. Often times you will see people just comment with “+1” to a op or commenter.

On other boards I have seen “kudos” being used, I think that would be great fot the ‘bee!

weddingwire.com has that feature & it was cool at first, but doesn’t get used all that often anymore.  I’m wondering if weddingbee.com thinks something similar would happen so no need to put in an extra feature when that effort could maybe be put else where.

The reason that we never added a Like button back in the day (years ago) was that it wouldn’t do anything.  On Facebook, liking something makes it appear in your newsfeed.  There is no newsfeed on Weddingbee…  so it wouldn’t serve as much of a purpose, and might to lead to confusion.
