Certain things go in and out of fashion and mermaids just happen to be the in thing right now. There are still LOTS of brides that prefer a traditional ballgown. I wore a mermaid dress and later an a-line for my reception, but ballgowns still remain my favorite silhouette. Another reason is that they’re not very flattering on most body types. I’m very petite and most ballgowns I loved on others overwhelmed me. If you’ve tried it on and loved it, don’t doubt that it’s the right dress for you.

As for your MOH, she may not have expressed herself well, or maybe she just has a different taste in dresses. Just remember this is YOUR day and YOUR dress, not hers. You need to pick what you love. There are a lot of brides who buy a dress they’re not in love because they listen to others’ opinions, and later regret it or end up purchasing a second dress.
