@lavenderstone:  I always talk ed about having an emerald engagement ring when i got married. My now hubby proposed with a lovely yellow gold, emerald and diamond engagement ring. Over the years, my tastes have simply changed and I wanted to wear a white gold ring with just a diamond centre (something a bit more traditional).

    This is my set now:

I am thinking about upgrading again! But i’ll have to see what hubby says first (I may just change the setting and keep the diamond for sentimental reasons)

I don’t wear my original ring because I kept managing to bang it hard enough to knock the stone loose. We had it reset and it still happened, so Fi bought me a new “every day” ring with a pink sapphire and I’ll wear my diamond on special occasions.

I always wondered that too.  When I was married to my x, his friends and their wives never wore their wedding rings or bands….we did, religiously! we never took ours off.  I don’t get it? LOL  I want people to know that I’m married, so I wore mine. I will wear mine every day when I get married in June!

I barely wear mine. I think it’s because I dislike wearing jewelry to the gym and I typically go to the gym everyday after work. Also, if I wear gold accessories, I reach my grandmother’s gold band as opposed to mine. I just don’t put so much stock into my wedding ring or band. I love it, but I just don’t see not wearing it as a big deal…

The diamonds in the halo started falling out, and I didnt want to constantly be replacing them.

My parents are (happily) married – and have been for 32 years and neither of them wears an engagement or wedding ring anymore. About 4-5 years ago, my mom’s e-ring was just way too small – she had to have it cut off (it was fused with her wedding band, so that went too)! She just never got it re-sized. She keeps it upstairs in her jewelry box. And my dad is a chemical engineer and was constantly having to take his ring off at work (since he works with chemicals all day long) – well one day, he lost it! And just never bothered to replace it. I think it’s a little weird, but it works for them!

@lavenderstone:  I have a different ring to the one he proposed with but it’s a pretty much exact replica of my original one; I wanted platinum instead of white gold so we had it copied 🙂 I’ll be having a shaped diamond band to match. I can’t see myself ever upgrading again; however, there might be odd occasions where I wear a thin plain band with a simple solitaire.

IRL I know 3 people who have changed: one never wore the ring he proposed with because she wanted a bigger one (!); one, like me, wanted to switch from white gold to platinum; and the third sometimes fancies a change and so wears a ring of her late grandmothers on that finger occasionally, and her engagement ring on her right hand.

My dream set was an antique illusion set. My husband didn’t want to propose with a dead woman’s ring, and thought that I needed a giant ring, so I have a beautiful stunner. Over the years, I convinced him I NEEDED an antique. My awesome antique watch was lonely. We got the deal of a lifetime and I am never taking it off!

@becleeham:  Your set is really pretty! Do you have a picture of the emerald ring? That sounds lovely too! But I 100% agree that tastes just simply change sometimes!!

@lavenderstone:  I still wear my same set. My husband would like to upgrade it but I have told him no. He will have to cut my finger off.

I still wear my original set but I know for my parents they upgraded after twenty years.  They were really young when they married and from the 70s to the 90s her taste changed.  But she still kept her original set until she gave it to my older sister.
