Why I refuse to gain weight post-wedding

Because it's expensive!! I can't afford to buy all new clothes after investing in so many nice things and having them perfectly tailored. I've gained about 3-4 lbs post wedding (which is a lot on me) and I HAVE to lose it for this reason!

Also, I never want to get into the mentality that it's "just a couple of pounds, no big deal". My pre-wedding weight was healthy for my height and I looked darn good! I want to stay that way for both my husband and myself!

Such a good point...buying new clothes is expensive and annoying, especially when you like the stuff you already have! I haven't really been trying to lose weight, per se, for the wedding, just kind of tone up/maintain. So hopefully that will make it easier to not "let myself go" after the wedding!

Agreed. I put on some weight in the 3 yrs that FI and I have been together (in my defense, he is an amazing cook, lol)- and I was glad to have the wedding as a motivation to get off my arse and get the excess weight off. I dropped 15 pounds for the wedding and I have no desire to gain it back.

I am really trying to stay motivated with this as well!  I just don't want to get caught on the trap of "letting go".

I know this is horrible, but one of my motivations is to get in shape to have a baby some day.  Gotta keep those ab muscles strong!

im actually gonna plan on losing more weight after my wedding as well. the stress level and pre weddin workouts have put me within my goal weight - for the wedding. but i was being relistic for the time frame. my ultimate goal is a bit further away. but after my dress was tailored to me i cant lose or gain anymore until after the wedding!

    im with you!

I think that is awesome for you! When I gained weight after college I had to buy almost all new clothes, but I kept my "skinny clothes" honestly because I couldn't let go :) With my wedding diet I'm almost exactly back to where I was (about 5 pounds to go) and can fit into my "skinny" outfits again! I want to be in the best shape of my life for my wedding, I'd love to stay that size forever but I just don't see it happening. I miss my ice cream and fried foods, and I REALLY miss McDonalds lol. I don't plan on getting obese or anything and I'll still be healthy and continue to workout but I don't mind not being the skinny girl. Plus since I have my big clothes waiting in the background I'm financially ok with it! Even at my biggest I'm still fairly small, I think if I go over that mark I'll have the same feelings and want to kick it back into gear and lose weight! I won't lie. I'm going to enjoy not being on a hardcore diet/exercise program after the wedding!

I was exactly on this plan, but by the time the honeymoon was over, the bliss was faded a little and I was ready to get settled down into our new life: 10 pounds gained.

    I'm.......... bummed.

I agree! I haven't gained any weight since the wedding... or lost, unfortunately(I'd like to be a little thinner), but I am in better shape than i was when I got married! I work out a lot and ran a half marathon this summer--my husband used to be a personal trainer so he works out even more--every single day. And we try to eat healthy.

A lady at my work told me in the bathroom a few months ago "how long have you been married? 3 months? You are the only person I know that hasn't gained weight after they got married." Didn't know what to say... but thanks!

It's a good goal to be healthy post-wedding. To me, the wedding is a big day, but being healthy the rest of your life is even more important.

I also agree with you. I used the wedding as an excuse to start exercising for the first time in my life, and now that it's over, I want to keep exercising. It's partly because I don't want to go back to the weight I was at before, and I don't want to "let myself go" now that I'm married, but also because I just want to be healthier! I want to try to be around for a long time for my husband, and to be a good role model for any kids we may have...plus it just makes me feel good, being someone who exercises. It's nice to do something that's good for you, instead of all of the crappy things I used to do--smoke, eat macaroni and cheese three times a week, sit on my behind all day, etc.

I was fairly slim before the wedding, but then went straight to baby weight.  I've got to finish losing the baby weight and then I'd love to get to my pre-wedding weight, but that's gonna be a stretch at this point.

I've dropped 2 lbs in 2 weeks with Couch to 5K though.

I don't want to buy new work clothes!

@Mrs. DG: Do you like Couch to 5K? Does it work? I have been running for a few months but I can't seem to run for longer than 2 miles. Plus I feel like I am dying as I am running (is that normal?). I would like to run a 5K but at this point I don't think I could do it. For some reason I'm scared of the Couch to 5k thing!

I said this after our wedding, too, and then, well, I gained a few pounds, and my clothes were snug. About three weeks ago, I was so mad at myself for letting myself go so much that I jump started into an eating right and working out routine. And I feel so much better. I only need to lose 5-10 pounds, but I want to maintain this lifestyle for the rest of my life, too.

In a sense, I'm kind of glad I let myself go (probably the only time in my adult life) because I felt crappy the whole time. Now I know what it feels like, and I don't ever want to do it again.

But yeah, obviously, if you can avoid it all together, that's better!

I keep telling all my friends that no one told me you gain weight after you get married!! Well, I did- I feel like it kinda crept up on me- one day I weighed myself and my clothes were really tight on me- I blamed it on period bloat! ... then it never went away! ha! So now I'm really trying to kick myself in the butt to get back to what I was, I'm with @Marlie, I want to look great in all the new fall clothes :) I HATE running!! but I've been doing a lot of walking at lunch and really trying to watch what I'm eating- I just hope I start seeing some changes soon!

@DG - Haha, having a baby doesn't count! :) Good for you with the Couch to 5K though!

@Miss Chapstick:I never want to be at the point where my clothes don't fit I am SO SCARED of that!! That's when you know the scale isn't lying and it isn't just water weight and you have to DO something! Good for you getting motivated, good luck!

@mtnbridenc:Yes when I saw the scale at +4 lbs this week I immediately blamed it on period bloat. Then I got real and was like "Okay, Moderndaisy this never happens to you any other month you're just making excuses!"

Let's start a newlywed fit club!

HAHAHAHA. I gained about 10 pounds post-wedding and my dress pants didn't fit. And my pants are uh, $80 apiece from limited because i have to purchase the Long ones, and they're never on sale.

So yeah, I couldn't afford to replace my work dress pants......it took awhile to come off, though.

chocolate malt- Couch to 5K works because it goes really slow.  The first week you run for a minute then walk for 90 second (8 reps, I think).  This week--week2, I run 90 seconds then walk two minutes.  In 9 weeks total, I'll be running 5K!  If I wasn't running on hills, I don't think I'd even be sore!

I gained 2.5 lbs on the honeymoon (dessert twice a day will do that), but I lost it all.  I joined weight watchers to lose weight for the wedding.  I hit my goal weight the morning of my bachelorette party and I made lifetime last week (which means I've been at my goal weight for at least 6 weeks).  I have to weigh in monthly to keep me accountable, but I have no intention on gaining weight until I'm preggers (which isn't happening in the near future).

Im with ya!! We have a friends wedding in Nov which will include a day time beach party (swimsuit in nov ;-0 ) and then our honeymoon isn't until april. So i these things to motivate me but also i have that same issue with clothes!! I hate having half my closet not fit like i did this past year. I had only gained 10 lbs but it was enough to make them tight! I lost the 10 lbs now in time for the wedding but i don't want it to creep back on!

I'm hoping I won't. My weight has been pretty consistant within a 10 lb range.

I gained a bit after we moved in together last November, I think it was because I was eating regular dinners and actually eating lunch on the weekends. Plus I had lost a ridiculous amount of weight (I was 105) due to depression the previous March and it took me a while to gain it back, so I didn't really worry about gaining for a while.

I was about 6 lbs heavier than I liked a few weeks ago so I cut out the junk and started making some healtier choices. I've lost 4 lbs and would like to loose another one just because there will be so much good food right around wedding time!

I want to get down to my pre-Army weight and stay there for a very good non-marriage reason.

Diabetes, heart disease, and thyroid disease run in my family.  Two of those are exacerbated by excess weight.  One makes it almost impossible to lose excess weight.

I need to get down to a quite healthy weight before the thyroid problems start.  There are other things like: I want to have more energy, I want to be slim for my wedding, I don't want to have to change my diet post-pregnancy due to excess weight gain...  I HAVE to be thin for health reasons.

However, I want to tone my abs, arms, and butt for marriage-related reasons - and because I want to look hot as hell in my wedding dress.

I totally feel you, also because I want to be in really good shape before I get pregnant, to stay healthy throughout pregnancy, and (hopefully) bounce back to a reasonable weight after having a baby!

I actually gained a bit over our month-long honeymoon, but I'm working it off now!

I wish I could say that I refuse it!  I've had a bit of a weight creep and it's been hard finding time to work out and eat healthy right now to fight it!

from a mother who lost weight post-pregnancy, here's how I did it: walked EVERYWHERE (I worked on a college campus in IT... had to go around campus for the job, lol) in HEELS!  Even just 1" heels were fine.

I'd suggest walking in heels.  Like around the city or around the block a few times.  It WILL CUT WEIGHT!!!  Also, be sure to eat healthy!  I lost my extra weight in one summer and have kept it off (even after my 2nd child! lol!)

For those who want to become pregnant: eat normal healthy-sized meals.  Don't pig out or "eat for two".  Eat frequently to help curb the pigging out (I'm being honest, I did that with my son, but not my daughter).  I would also chew mint-flavored gum, which helped curb the hunger.

good luck to all you ladies!!!

and before you ask: I just have a high metabolism (hopefully I won't loose it! *knock on wood*) and my body regulates it's own weight.
