If it makes you feel better, it seems like MOST trains are running on schedule.
I totally get your frustration though--FI seems to think he's invincible! It drives me crazy--he goes out of the house completely dressed inappropriately for the weather, no scarf, no hat...okay, now I sound like his mom! :)
I understand your worry and frustration with him.
However, I would probably be the same way. We have snow squalls and winter storms all the time and I never change my day to day business because of it - but my attitude may be because we get them often. But then again our schools almost NEVER close and everything is still open and running no matter how bad a storm may be!
heh, I've gotten used to him not dressing appropriately for the cold weather(though today I did suggest to him he should wear a scarf, which he declined lol), but yeah. We're on an elevated line which worries me in particular. So yes, MOST trains... but after looking, unfortunately we're in the minority of those trains not running properly...
Apparently NYC schools never close either, so that's what I mean about NYC taking this seriously but not my husband. Like I said, being from the Chicago area, we trekked through snow every winter with very few school closings, though I do remember at least one blizzard where we lost power so it just worries me. It's not SNOW that bothers me, just these particular conditions.
*hugs* they are so stubborn sometimes. I hope he'll be ok. Keep us updated.
We got about 8 inches so far here in Northeast PA and due to the winds and everything we're under a state of emergency. FI works at a hotel and has been clearning snow all day, and he texts me to say maybe he'll drive over here later after he cleans up. Granted, it's a 5 minute drive, but I'm like, REST. Stay home and be safe!! But does he listen? Nooooo, lol
Guys can be EXTREMELY stubborn and tend to worry a lot less than us. A lot of them just don't expect or prepare for the worst, because it doesn't cross their minds! I know EXACTLY what you're saying though. I kinda wrote a post on it the other day. (sorry, not to propogate my post on your thread, but it did address this sort of thing).
I hope he makes it home OK! I'm sorry you're getting a blizzard. We got one of those here on Christmas Eve that completel ruined all Christmas plans. Stay safe!!
thanks everyone. It's not currently awful and I just hope if it does pick up, that it doesn't until later. Our train line has delays, but I really hope that they are just that- delays and not stuck! The problem with this storm (and what worries me) is that we had a really slushy snow first, sleet. So now everything is all wet and as it gets colder and freezes, it is seriously going to cause problems. The clothes lines that I see outside our bedroom window are coated in a thick layer of ice and snow and are getting droopy. Once that happens to electrial wires...
Haha, FI and I are at work in NYC and probably going to be here late into the evening. I've been watching it snow out of the window, and it does look pretty heavy. For my sake, I hope your FI is right and everyone is just overreacting...getting stuck at work would not be fun.
Joeswifey, while it's still daylight, light a few candles. That way, just in case, you can see to get other lights lit! (Plus, open flame can warm things up!)
I bet your husband will be home soon. don't worry!
He finally made it home. Took him a hald hour longer than usual, but he said he fell asleep so he didn't notice anyway... *rolls eyes* Glad he's home though. I hope the rest of you still at work make it home safe. Hopefully, for all of us, it doesn't pick up like they predict.

So, NYC has been bracing for a blizzard since yesterday. They closed all the schools YESTERDAY before it even started snowing. This isn't supposed to be a snow storm, it's supposed to be a blizzard. I'm from the Chicago area and I understand what a blizzard is, but my husband doesn't. He seems to think that the severity of a storm depends on the amount of snow when that's just not the case! He won't take this seriously despite the fact that all the rest of NYC is. I kept asking him if he would leave work early since the brunt was supposed to start this afternoon but he just keeps poo-pooing it saying it'll be fine, NYC can handle it (um hello! the train lines have power outages and problems even under IDEAL conditions!) and he just doesn't get it. He just left work, a whopping FIFTEEEN MINUTES early. His sister just got here not too long ago and she said the trains are already being delayed and they were talking about suspending service if things get worse. It just makes me worried and also incredibly annoyed that he won't take this seriously. :(
