I am a chubby girl, and while I don’t tan, I do like to go swimming once in a blue moon, usually in a pool. But I can’t. I cannot find a bikini/tankini that I’m comfortable in, so I decided to look for a one-piece swimsuit with a racer back (so the straps don’t fall off my shoulders) and NO SKIRT. And every website I’ve looked at has ugly bathing suits for chubby girls, with skirts! You know what I feel like when I wear a skirted swimsuit or ‘swimdress’? This:
Yes, she is adorable for a hippo. But I don’t wanna look like a ballerina hippo! Just a regular hippo.
And my other problem is finding a swimsuit locally. Have looked at Target, Kmart, Walmart, etc. Ballerina hippo suits. I can’t bring myself to buy one from online seeing as how my body shape (giant boobs) doesn’t fit standard one-piece suits in certain sizes.
Any recommendations? Fellow rants?

Kudos to even wearing a bathing suit.. I’m a size 20, and I haven’t worn a bathingsuit/gone swimming in over 8 years 🙁
Lane Bryant has nice swimsuits without skirts (they have one with skirts too, eww, lol)

@Sweet_Tea: Have you tried Kohl’s? Admittedly, their swimsuit section is pretty small in each store, but I managed to find a size 18 tankini set that I loved. Actually, they’re two different brands with colors that happened to go together.

@AquaGrey8962: I’m not keen on the idea of wearing anything less than jeans and t-shirt, but there are pools in the complex we live in, and it’d be nice to swim rather than be stuck indoors all year long 🙂 I looked at LB–didn’t see what I was looking for.
@HisMoon: Looked there, found a couple that were close, but halter style would hurt my neck (the aforementioned boobs lol).
Thanks for the suggestions so far.

@Sweet_Tea: bahahha! I love this post!
The following aren’t exactly budget friendly suites. But I think it’s important to buy at least ONE good one.
this one is cute
what about this one?

@Sweet_Tea: Macy’s or Bloomingdales….miraclesuit or Ralph lauren plus
I used to be an 18-20 and I never bought inexpensive bathing suits. I find the bettet brands have good fabric and better coverage.

@Sweet_Tea: Sounds like someone needs to check out http://wtfplus.tumblr.com/ !!!
It’s not just swimsuits. Practically all plus size clothing is either a bizarrely colored shapeless sack or proportioned crazily or leopard print…. that blog is freaking awesome if you’re beyond sick of the way designers, manufacturers, and advertisers treat plus size women.
Also seconding the swimsuitsforall reccomendation. If you want a legit bikini they have them under the “collections” tab. 😀
