Wedding shows are one thing, I had a moment that I wanted to apply to be on Four Weddings when it came to Canada, but realistically….not for me. Weddings are mostly fun, the shows are definitely a time to “show off” so to speak, you’re looking your best, so much planning, sort of more “control” in terms of execution and you can control making things awesome (or not!)
Baby shows….I am watching one and like….you’re in pain, not looking your best, like…..I don’t know, why do people apply to go on baby shows? You have no control (ok, not “no” control, but….) in a pregnancy, things can go wrong and life and death situations can happen….. I get that I am a sucker for watching and obviously people will watch the baby shows, but to want to be on one?
I don’t get it, lol.
Not meant to start a debate, just silly discussion!! 🙂

@Beebug: Oh I’m so with you on that. I’m not excited that my husband has to see me that way let alone millions of viewers!

I’m so fascinated by those shows! I mostly love how they show their home life before and after and how much emotion there is when a baby is born. I cry everytime I watch! I could never be on A Baby Story though, I’d be humiliated haha. I actually had someone in the delivery room take photos–none of them were that terrible but I didn’t look cute either.

I would hate it… but I also can’t stand the shows themselves. I think it’s primarily b/c I feel like I’d be at the disposal of the show & hopsital, just like most of those poor moms are. Atleast moreso than just birhting on my own.
I did REALLY want a birthing photographer here though! Guess I don’t think I’ll be at my worst through it all, but more at my most awesomeness! lol

Maybe if I was having a super high risk/complicated pregnancy, because then it could potentially help other women. Other than that no, I’d want it to be private. I saw one where the dad passed out while his wife was pushing, my Darling Husband was like “I’d f$%^ing die if that was on national television.”

Oh gosh, totally agree. There is no way that I’d do that….especially if it’s for the delivery of Baby #1 where you already don’t really know what to expect, how you’ll react, etc. No way!
ETA: I love watching them though 🙂

@KatyElle: OH geeze! That would suck!

People go on because they give you monetary compensation, as well as gifts from all of the sponsors. We knew a couple that went on and that was their only reason for agreeing. One of the gifts was free diapers for a year.

@mwitter80: nice! very nice….never knew that
well seeing as i’ll be throwing F bombs and “I hate yous” around at everyone in the room during my labor, i am going to pass on that show. Seriously? does everyone need to see my true colors on national tv? I’d prefer it stay between me,dh & our poor OB. Everyone else inm y life thinks i’m a clean as a whistle saint! 😉

Entertainment… I love watching baby shows. Its not about looking your best. You, me, no one will look their best when giving birth….. they are giving birth for goodness sake. Its real, loving, compassionate, and educational for those of us who haven’t given birth. I have learned to expect the unexpected watching those shows…. its amazing. I truly enjoy watching!!!
